What would you say is the best general advice you have been given? Or have given ?

Whenever you’re really angry and about to fire off an impassioned email / text / letter / telegram to that effect, wait 24 hours before you send it. In 99% of cases you will decide you want to moderate the message.

NagaisAce · 13/06/2020 09:15

Don’t look back, you are not going that way.

peajotter · 13/06/2020 09:17

Talk to God, and listen for a reply.

POP7777777 · 13/06/2020 09:18

Get a blackout blind for the baby's room.

Lottapianos · 13/06/2020 09:18

If in doubt, do nowt
Never give advice unless someone has asked you at least twice
Listen to your gut

LellyMcKelly · 13/06/2020 09:18

Don’t let other people treat you badly.

SerendipitySunshine · 13/06/2020 09:19

What's meant for you wont pass you by

oohyoudevilyou · 13/06/2020 09:20

Don't park next to a drain.

Rosegoldglass · 13/06/2020 09:20

Whenever you achieve something there will always be someone wanting you to fail. Take no heed to what people think because if you do you will never achieve what you want. My old boss when I was about 23.

Blanca87 · 13/06/2020 09:20

What's for you won't go by you.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 13/06/2020 09:22

You are enough. And your value is not measured by how much you are worth.

ProudMarys · 13/06/2020 09:22

Well I heard lots of good advice but this was one I read recently which made sense to me.

To ask for the best advice you have been given

Nurture your relationship. During a bad period of my life, I wasted a lot of time and energy trying to help family members, and someone wise said it to me. I realised losing my relationship with DH was not worth it.

Dailyjunglegrind · 13/06/2020 09:26

Time is your most precious resource, spent it wisely.

dudsville · 13/06/2020 09:30

Don't presume it's common sense. You might well have to teach an adult how to use a tin opener. Nothing is gained by shaming someone for not knowing something "simple".

beelzeboob · 13/06/2020 09:30

“Be yourself”
Which always sounded stupidly trite and obvious to me years ago when people used to say that. I mean, duh, how can anyone not be themselves?!

Now I take it as one of the best pieces of advice. Be yourself, be true to yourself, don’t try to “be” other people, do what’s right for you, harnest and cultivate your own skills and grow your own character, invest in your own life and.....be yourself.

my midwife, many years ago 'clear up todays shit before you go to bed, cos tomorrow there is going to be whole lot more', she meant, tidy your living room and kitchen last thing, I think she was right, the only times I leave it in a shit state the morning feels really awful.

MadamBatty · 13/06/2020 09:36

join the pension scheme, time goes very fast.

Your body is the most important thing you own. Treat it well

chickensaresafehere · 13/06/2020 09:37

To quote the divine Chris Cornell-
'Be yourself,is all that you can do'
Wise words Smile

Weenurse · 13/06/2020 09:40

When I had a young baby, nurse said ‘ if you feel you are going to lose it, go out.
You won’t lose it in public ‘.

KingscoteStaff · 13/06/2020 09:41

Marry someone kind.

And get blackout blinds for the children’s room.

Laurie01 · 13/06/2020 09:46

Every now and again, just stop, take it all in, and be grateful for what you've got.

SmilingHappyBeaver · 13/06/2020 09:54

Judge others (especially those you are entering into a relationship with) by what they're like when they're at their worst. Because it's then you'll see them for who they really are, so you can make a better decision about it you want that for the long haul. Anyone can be happy, funny, cheerful etc for a short time.

Before childbirth- “leave your dignity at the hospital door and pick it up on the way out.”
