The Postman.....

Just knocked on my door & before I could answer , which wouldve been almost imediately, he opened my door and put letters in on door mat...

Usually, my door is locked but my oldest DC is out on a walk.
I also have 2 indoor cats, that would possibly have got out...

This has happened to my parents before, different postman though, he opened their door- despite a post box which is on the outside of their gate, even if he had to come to door, there is a letter box on door too.
The family dog went nuts barking at him, he complained about our dog to the depo manager!!

AIBU to think the postman has no right to do just open my front door?
Do I report to the local depo?

Firstly, sometimes we think front doors are porches - sometimes it's hard to tell and if the previous 3 or 4 have been porches and yours opens into your hall - my bad, so shoot me.
Secondly, if you don't want the crap - OPT OUT, it's my job to deliver it, if I don't I can get sacked. If you opt out, I don't deliver it. Everybody's happy.

There was a letter box tops- he could have literally put it in the letter box?

Couchbettato · 11/06/2020 23:00

My postman does this for parcels but that's because I answered the door to him, breasts hanging out with baby attached, hair matted and not brushed for days, and he said he does his rounds between 10-11 so if I can make sure he's got access he'll just drop them round the corner. I think it would have been wrong of him to do it without asking me.

Mine do it if the post box doesn't fit the item. I'm quite grateful that they do, but I have fewer security concerns at my home than I would have in some previous ones.

yes, We have a fully functioning letter box, he delivered 4 letters , no parcels of any descripion

Use a door chain, it's challenging times for postmen and why make an issue of it. Think of your general security, it could have been anyone.

He is a stranger, I dont know him at all and he doesnt me, he doesnt know if I have kids or if I am 21 or 99....
I am going to ask him not to do that again, if he continues Then I will report him.

I do have a chain and it normally is on with the door locked, due to DC being out and waiting on his return,I left unlocked, this is bizzarely the 1st tine I left unlocked

Yanbu. He shouldn’t be doing it without even asking if you mind first, and if it’s just letters there was no need anyway? Confused

I have house cats too and would be really cross if they got out because of something avoidable like that.
