Neighbours puppy continuously barking

Friedbluetomatoes · 10/06/2020 09:29

Two weeks ago our neighbours got an 8 week old puppy. Yesterday, for the first time they left her alone whilst they both went to work. One of the neighbours is part time so was away from approx 8am-1pm but the poor pup bark continuously the whole time, no let off at all.
The constant barking set off my own dog too.
Neighbour got home, txt me and apologised for the barking, said pup had got in such a state that she had messed up her crate and made her paws bleed!!
Thing is, the barking has started again this morning
I don’t really want to get into a conversation with new neighbours about how they should look after their pet but personally I do not agree with leaving a puppy for more than 2 hours at a time, especially such a young pup ( I am a dog walker so have lots of experience with dogs)
I’ve even offered to pop in on her myself but they haven’t taken me up on the offer.
It’s so distressing to hear.
Would you say something if it was your neighbour?

They should rehome that puppy!!!!!!!! That is not ok. They should still be in the process of crate training her now to be alone over night and be at about 30 minutes in the day. That poor puppy. They need to fork out for a day care with a puppy that young (if it's even had all it's vaccinations!)

Friedbluetomatoes · 10/06/2020 09:34

MyDucks I agree, it’s so distressing to hear. Just leaving her to get on with it isn’t appropriate puppy training imo.

Five hours? Poor bloody puppy. Can you record it? Tell them exactly what’s happening? Would they set up a camera to see what’s going on? Engage with a trainer or advice? Dog training advice and support on FB are fab.

Friedbluetomatoes · 10/06/2020 09:41

Wolfiefan I did wonder if I should record it but as she apologised yesterday for the puppies constant barking I wonder if she has a monitoring device already. She seemed to be aware that he’d barked all day.

Christ, the poor thing must be so distressed.

How can they think it's acceptable to treat an animal like that? Angry

LaughingDonkey · 10/06/2020 09:58

''was away from approx 8am-1pm''

''pup had got in such a state that she had messed up her crate and made her paws bleed!!''

They left 10 week old pup in CRATE for 5 hours??? That is shocking!

Wolfiefan · 10/06/2020 10:02

Maybe someone else had already told her? Poor bloody thing. My pup is 8 months and I wouldn’t leave her that long. Sad

Friedbluetomatoes · 10/06/2020 10:17

I’m hoping and praying it’s a short term thing and they’ve got something sorted for the near future. The partner works shifts so fingers crossed this situation is only now and then when their work hours coincide with each other. We just can not listen to this week in week out it’s far too distressing, I can only imagine how upset the poor pup must be.

lockdown dog. Same as Christmas dogs.

start a noise diary because you are going to need it.

LaughingDonkey · 10/06/2020 10:26

@MyDucksArentInARow

Poor pup and you Sad

Maybe you can text them every time/day when pup is barking? If you are at home would you offer dog daycare service until they sort something out?

LaughingDonkey · 10/06/2020 10:26

Apologies, last message was for @Friedbluetomatoes

Friedbluetomatoes · 10/06/2020 10:30

mencken good idea to start a noise diary. Yesterday it was literally from the minute she left until she got back, no let up, he must have been exhausted poor mite. Today doesn’t look much better, she left at 8ish and he has yapped non stop since.
LaughingDonkey I’ve offered to help, my teen son has offered to help too!

@Friedbluetomatoes

Did they say why they declined your help? Confused

Windyatthebeach · 10/06/2020 10:34

Personally I would be taking photos of her leaving and returning.. Report her to rspca. Environmental health about the noise. Keep a diary. Fuck neighbourly relations. They are animal abusers.

TARSCOUT · 10/06/2020 10:36

Too angry to have a constructive answer Angry. This is terrible.

SparkLee · 10/06/2020 10:39

The pup was so distressed its paws were bleeding? And she's still leaving it home alone? Fucking monster. Please report this op, it's animal abuse. You're the only one who can help this poor puppy. Leaving a 10 week old puppy for that length of time locked in a crate is so cruel Sad

ThinkingIsAllowed · 10/06/2020 10:40

Agree with pp, they are being abusive. What are they thinking, leaving a puppy alone for so long?!

KitchenConfidential · 10/06/2020 10:44

I’d be phoning the RSPCA!
She left a 10 week old in a crate for 5 hours!!!!! She should not have a puppy

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 10/06/2020 10:50

I am with PP. please report it. Who can leave such a young pup at home, alone, in a crate?

Cabinfever10 · 10/06/2020 10:51

Agree with pp call the RSPCA now before that poor puppy is further physically and psychologically harmed by them

Windyatthebeach · 10/06/2020 11:00

Ring today. Rspca need to see it's paws and lack of vet care. Don't think she will have taken it and explained how it came to be bleeding.. Lack of health care is an offence in itself..

Friedbluetomatoes · 10/06/2020 11:20

I think they care for him in many ways, I’ve seen how they are with him (in the garden) and she says they’ve taken it in turns to sleep with him downstairs at night so he’s not alone. I am just hoping and praying these two days are one offs or few and far between and that their shifts will overlap more frequently although I was quite surprised when two days after getting the pup the neighbour left him for 2 hours during the day whilst he went out somewhere (she barked continuously then), I personally would have taken some annual leave if I had just gotten a puppy and would never have left her during the first two weeks.
She has been quiet now for half an hour, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not!? I don’t have any personal experience with crates as I have never crated any of my dogs, they are just something I’m not comfortable with I can only imagine the pup made her paws bleed with constant pawing of the metal, just found it upsetting when the neighbour txt me to apologise for the barking and to say that she had made her paws bleed which she ended with an lol!?
I would like to ring the RSPCA but I don’t have a lot of faith in them tbh, I’ve contacted them several times over the years (including 2 summers ago when I found two dogs left in a van all day), they’ve never been interested. I have the number in my phone, I will ring them for advice.

OP posts:
Friedbluetomatoes · 10/06/2020 11:24

Just realised why pup is quiet, I notice that one of my neighbours’ relatives car is in the drive, well that’s one good thing, at least the puppy now has someone with her.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 10/06/2020 11:26

Oh thank goodness! Crates can be a good thing BUT it involves training them to feel secure and happy there. You can’t simply put them in and shut the door. It takes time and effort.
I do hope they’ve learnt. I agree rspca are unlikely to get involved. Sad

SparkLee · 10/06/2020 12:02

the neighbour txt me to apologise for the barking and to say that she had made her paws bleed which she ended with an lol!?

That poor puppy Sad so fucking hilarious that it tried to escape the loneliness and misery of its crate that cut pieces out of the soft pads of its paws Angry poor thing must have been so frightened.
