... to wonder if these pictures are offensive?

There were shared by an artist on a Facebook group. I think they seem offensive in some sense - but then I have also been told I am too sensitive and overthink everything. I also wonder if the original intention of the author matters, or the geographical origin of the pictures in relation to what is the style of humour captured.

I am trying to be more aware of when to "get over myself" so I would be interested to see what others think.

YABU - they are not offensive at all
YANBU - I can see what you mean

I actually love old fashioned seaside postcards, but I wouldn't like them set in a modern day context if that makes sense - they are anachronistic but they have a certain charm. These on the other hand are just a bit crap.

Unattractive but not offensive.

I think they are a bit pervy not offensive. What’s going on with her erect nips lol why would anyone draw something like that 🤷‍♀️

NameChangeForThisOneToday · 10/06/2020 16:14

Not to my taste but I wouldn't find them offensive without some narrative attached which makes them so

knittingaddict · 10/06/2020 17:03

I've just enlarged them on my computer screen to have a better look and it's the nipples. Definitely the nipples. At least that's what stands out to me or maybe just "stands out".

Having looked at the artist's website, it seems obvious that this is the artist's fantasy woman. Somehow that makes me a bit uncomfortable.

Blibbyblobby · 10/06/2020 17:13

They're cartoons... 🤦‍♀️

And?

Blibbyblobby · 10/06/2020 17:15

From the Tank Girl school of cartoon women...you can strong and scruffy as long as you're sexy with it

knittingaddict · 10/06/2020 19:19

The juxtaposition of the sexualised woman in a pretty depressing lifestyle seems very wrong.

This sums it up for me too LiveintheNow.

The woman comes across as sexually available, but down trodden and slutty (in the old sense of the word - messy and unclean). Those images are not about a child's eye view and nostalgia.
