Frankie Macritchie dog attack death: Mum Tawnee Willis jailed www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-52939564

I think the mother will be haunted by her actions for the rest of her life but Jesus fucking Christ, I can't believe anyone would think it was a good idea to leave a child alone with any dog, let alone a 7stone bull breed.

I love my dogs and I trust them with my life but there isn't a chance in hell I would leave them with my children for just a minute.

I'm sharing because it's easy to get complacent, especially when you have good natured dogs like mine.

I feel sad for everyone in this sad story but just desperately sad for what that little boy must have gone through that evening, alone.

My child is ten and I can’t bring myself to leave to pop to the shops alone. Makes no sense leaving him with that dog in such a confined space with PlayStation noises. So reckless selfish and mindless Angry

Help please
A friend has a 'puppy' that he leaves with his 70 yr old mother who lives in her electric wheel-chair. She had stroke is very weak on one side.
She is also bad tempered by frustration and shouts.

The puppy is an entire Rottweiler, he wants to breed him when he is older so refuses to have him cut.
I did bring up the subject in conversation but response was predictable:
"No no, You don't understand, dog is so friendly and loves Mum! etc etc
At 12 weeks the dog is as tall as a calf and has a much broader chest
Of course it might be OK. It seems we just have to wait and see.

tabulahrasa · 17/06/2020 09:58

Um at 12 weeks Rottweilers are about the size of terriers and way way to young to be neutered...

No puppy should be getting shouted at and rotties are quite sensitive - but I’m not really sure what you want help with?

geekone · 17/06/2020 10:36

@soruff Rottweilers are lovely dogs and a 12 week old puppy is about the size of a full grown cocker spaniel, not a calf, also you can’t neuter a 12 week old dog.
If the puppy is walked appropriately and trained appropriately (which is not much at 12 weeks) then spending the day with a 70 year old lady will be better for him than being left on his own and probably lovely company for the lady.

soruff · 18/06/2020 17:44

It probably is good for the puppy to have company. Leaving someone who has had a stroke and restricted movement with a dangerous breed is not a good thing. Those dogs have a natural hard wired tendency, repeat tendency, to aggression as they become adult.
That will be dangerous, as in the case that inspired this thread.
Dog lovers 'in denial' of this are no help.

Poor little boy, its like a horror story, what he went through before he died, imagine his terror and no one came to help him.
2 and 3 years in prison.... not allowed to have any more dogs or children better still they should have life with no parole. It wasn't the dogs fault either, its always the owners fault.
