To suggest we storm the parks (armed with hand gel and cleaning wipes)

Maybe light-hearted, maybe not. In the past week I'm increasing frustrated that children and their well-being are being left behind, as golf courses, garden centres etc open. But no timeline in sight for playparks, zoos etc.

I walk past the park most days on our walk and am increasingly tempted to snip the plastic ties holding the gate shut and take my daughter to play on the swings. I think the only thing stopping me is that is socially taboo and that someone will call the police.

I'm such a law abiding person normally. But I think the anxiety and depression of lockdown is really getting to me. I don't understand the logic of the way things are reopening.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Homemadeandfromscratch what is your normal if not being able to marry, attend funerals or visit family in their home fits it? Where a 93yo man with balance issues and osteoporosis has his regular eye clinic appointments for AMD cancelled so he risks blindness and falls more likely to kill him than Covid? Where an 82 yo lady with obvious dementia can't get the formal diagnosis that will enable the help she needs. Where an 81yo lady, severely disabled after a stroke, won't get up because life without visiting her friends isn't worth living. Fuck that normal,

On bbc news it says the zoos and wildlife parks (outdoor attractions!) are set to open from next Monday.

hoxtonbabe · 09/06/2020 22:57

That’s what I just saw on the TV, that zoos and amusement parks are to reopen

Molocosh · 09/06/2020 23:05

I'm this close to going out at dead of night with a balaclava and bolt cutters
My council would be perfectly happy for you to do that. The thing is, if we (the council) reopen the parks then we are liable. Whereas if they’re officially closed and you break in and use them anyway, that’s not our fault.

sirfredfredgeorge · 10/06/2020 00:17

The monkeys won't do that either, they're behind big plastic screens!

Is that why the screens appeared in the supermarket tills now? Were people really flinging their shit at the staff? Even more respect to those staff!

@AllTheCakes

Absolutely. No one has touched the parks in months so there shouldn’t be any contaminated surfaces!

Given that some kids are now back to mingling at nursery and school, I don’t see it being much higher risk to play in the playground.

It’s not the point that no one had touched it, it’s the touching of things going forward. One kid after another in play equipment will just spread any germs.

Could, not will.

If infected organisms are transferred to play equipment, they would need to access a new host via their nose, mouth or eyes. Hand washing / hand gel significantly reduces that risk.

Even in school our climbing frame type outdoor toys are not allowed to be used right now. Seems to be case in lots of schools.

@Thewordgame

The cutting of hedges and trees is another one, nothing, absolutely nothing is being maintained, there is overgrowth absolutely everywhere.
Hi

Legally at this time of year hedges and trees can only be trimmed if they are causing hazards such as blocking traffic. It is to protect nesting birds.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 10/06/2020 08:36

in garden centres you are not meant to linger. same as in supermarkets
that is the difference.
how would you like to be told to be quick at the zoo, not take your time?
