To not expect to feel like this?

I literally went out earlier to a friend's house to have a socially distanced cuppa. Then I went to do my food shopping. That's all I've done all day: I've had to come home and go to bed because I feel absolutely exhausted. This is a constant thing. I can't go out of my house for more than an hour without feeling absolutely drained when I come home.

I started sorting my garden out the other day for a tip run (shed has just been taken down) and after half an hour I was drained.

I used to be in the gym most days, this isn't normal for me. I feel like I've had flu (I haven't) every time I do even the smallest tasks or activities I'm that exhausted.

I look after myself, eat healthily, don't drink, sleep well etc. What is wrong with me?

Ummm, have you maybe had coronavirus with few symptoms??

Crikey0000 · 06/06/2020 22:48

Covid is a distinct possibility, you should isolate. Hope you feel better soon.

Babyroobs · 06/06/2020 22:49

Maybe you've had the virus mildly but it has left you with this post viral fatigue ? I have a friend who has been severely fatigued for a few months now and is convinced she must have had the virus. I have lots of friends who have been confirmed as having the virus and have been left with overwhelming fatigue for weeks afterwards. It's a very nasty virus as we all know.

wolfmom · 06/06/2020 22:49

I would ask for a thyroid test to rule that out if you can.

borntohula · 06/06/2020 22:51

Maybe just out of the habit of moving around a lot, I'm the same atm.

borntohula · 06/06/2020 22:52

Yeah, or a virus I guess.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 06/06/2020 22:57

I don't think it's coronavirus purely because it's been going on since the end of last year. Unless it started before that which I suppose is a hypothesis.
Thyroid test might be a good shout.
I'd love to think it was just being out of the habit of moving but it's been going on for a while and I've tried for a long time to just push through it thinking I'm unfit but I don't think it'd affect me for this long to that level
Thank you all for the ideas

Could you be anaemic? My iron levels seem to very easily drop to low levels and I will need a course of iron tablets a couple of times a year.

Going to see your GP and asking for your bloods to be done would be sensible and in the meantime make sure you’re taking a comprehensive vitamin supplement.

Isthisfinallyit · 06/06/2020 23:38

Have you been out in the sun enough for vitamin D? Could you be pregnant? Are you vegsn?

ChangedAgainJune · 07/06/2020 01:22

It's either Vitamin D or Iron deficiency, or your thyroid. Had this last year it turned out vit D. Get yourself one of the private tests (medichecks, thriva- I used both, both are goid) as GP will not be of any use at present. Tests do not cost that much- £70-80. Choose one wihch includes all- vit D, thyroid, iron, and go from there. Good luck!

Kitsandkids · 07/06/2020 05:17

Could you be depressed?

EmperorCovidula · 07/06/2020 05:21

Check iron levels as well, in particular if you get breathless easily.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 07/06/2020 09:35

It's unlikely I'm anaemic, my iron levels are always very high even in pregnancy. I'm not vegan, and definitely not pregnant. I take a good vitamin too.

I think blood tests are the best idea, I'll look into a thyroid, vit D and iron one and go from there. It's just so frustrating.

Aren't there other symptoms with under active thyroid? I haven't gained any weight or anything like that, for instance.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 07/06/2020 09:36

@Kitsandkids no I'm pretty sure I'm not depressed. I want to go out and do things, it's the exhaustion afterwards that's the issue.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 07/06/2020 09:37

@Isthisfinallyit I'm outside most of every day, even if it's just reading a book in a chair, but it is England so it could well be vit D

OP posts:
Gooseygoosey12345 · 07/06/2020 09:38

@EmperorCovidula I don't get breathless luckily. It's more like I can't keep my eyes open, I get a headache and my whole body aches. It's really hard to describe properly. Maybe fatigue is the right word.

weepingwillow22 · 07/06/2020 09:39

What is your sleep quality like? I am like this when my fitbit records low levels of deep sleep.

Madhairday · 07/06/2020 09:41

It sounds like it could possibly be CFS, OP. Please do go to your GP Flowers

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/06/2020 09:44

Also consider vit B deficiency.

fairyfingers · 07/06/2020 09:44

I have sub clinical hypothyroidism (ie it's shitey but not shitey enough to treat).

I get a bit tired and achy but not all the time. I get a bit more cold than normal and I find it tough to lose weight but haven't gained and losing is not impossible. So you don't have to have massive symptoms for it to be out of whack.

When I do get tired I get v v tired. But it's fatigue not tiredness. A nap wouldn't sort it, it's bone tiredness and lethargy.

Marnie76 · 07/06/2020 09:44

How old are you OP? Could it be premenopausal symptoms? Blood tests anyway are the way to go

Gooseygoosey12345 · 07/06/2020 10:02

I'm not 30 yet so hope it's not peri menopausal. I still have regular periods so it's unlikely.
I never considered CFS, I'll have to look into it!

OP posts:
Gooseygoosey12345 · 07/06/2020 10:04

@fairyfingers that sounds very familiar, so definitely worth getting a thyroid check then.
If it's not treated how do you manage it? Surely no one is expected to live their whole life exhausted?

OP posts:
fairyfingers · 07/06/2020 10:53

Ah I don't feel I like it all the time tbh. I have it in waves do for ages (weeks) I am fine. Better when I exercise/eat well etc. It will get to treatment stage though.

Crimeismymiddlename · 07/06/2020 11:07

It could be over active thyroid-I used to feel like this and thought it was because I am fat! Everything was just effort-however like one pp said it did come in waves and stress made it a lot worse before it got treated.
