First world question! Would you do this if 8 months pregnant?

Posting on here for quick responses mainly.

I'm 8 months pregnant and it's my birthday. I am very lucky and DH has prepared a lovely picnic. Would I be okay to eat a slice or two of iberico ham?? Or is this an absolute no-no? The NHS says charcuterie but not sure if it means processed sausage type meat as opposed to slices of iberico?

Also, would anyone consider drinking a small glass of champagne in my position? I haven't drunk anything so far in my pregnancy. Seems so close to the final hurdle now so wondering if I might...! I know opinions differ so just interested to hear views.

Freeze the ham for 48 hours before consumption and you can eat it with impunity.

Pinkchocolate · 04/06/2020 13:00

Yes to the ham but not the champagne. I would never judge someone for it though, I just wouldn’t enjoy it enough to justify it. Good luck OP, not long left.

MaybeMaybeNotJ · 04/06/2020 13:00

Personally I’d avoid both
Happy Birthday

Molocosh · 04/06/2020 13:03

It’s literally a couple of weeks until you can freely do both. If you can’t wait a couple of weeks for a glass of wine then you have bigger problems than just that one drink. Why would you take even the tiniest risk with your precious baby? Your baby should be more important than your desire to drink tbh.

mongoosebaby · 04/06/2020 13:03

Both would have given me raging indigestion at that stage! Very jealous if that's not the case for you Grin

blardiblabla · 04/06/2020 13:03

The risk of FASD from one glass of fizz is tiny, but not zero. It can just take one glass. I had an occasional glass when pregnant with my DS and he was born with a severe illness. It was categorically not linked to those drinks, but now I'm pregnant with my second I have to say there is no way I'd risk it, especially for the sake of waiting a month. Many people do have a drink though and everything is fine so do what you feel comfortable with - the fact you're asking suggests maybe you're not, though.

TheFuckingDogs · 04/06/2020 13:07

Both!!

Crunchymum · 04/06/2020 13:07

Both my girls (not twins) are January born so I have been 8+ months pregnant for 2 Christmases / NYE.

Had a glass of fizz here and there over those festive periods. Nothing excessive but definitely more than a thimble Grin

Go for it and enjoy. Happy Birthday!

TheFuckingDogs · 04/06/2020 13:07

You’re hardly trotting off to the local crack dealer

ExclamationPerfume · 04/06/2020 13:09

I wouldn't do either. You only have to wait another month.

ClaraLane · 04/06/2020 13:10

I’d do both - currently 30 weeks pregnant and had 2 rosé spritzers last week. I regret nothing!

CecilyP · 04/06/2020 13:15

OP won't have birthday in another month. She also may not fell like a drink when she has a new born. I'd do both. Your baby is fully formed and just getting bigger.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 04/06/2020 13:18

100% would (and did).

I didn't have a straightforward birth but didn't blame it on my Christmas indulgence (DD born at new year) because even when pregnant I was an intelligent adult who could read the evidence that a few glasses of wine is absolutely no risk.

THNG5 · 04/06/2020 13:18

I have done both! Had a massive craving for salami and other meats during my last pregnancy. Salivating just thinking about it!

Ineedcoffee2345 · 04/06/2020 13:19

I would. I turned 30 when 36 weeks pregnant and had a glass of champagne to celebrate

Thurmanmurman · 04/06/2020 13:20

Yes to both

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 04/06/2020 13:20

What judgy crap. I assume people who truly think this have never crossed a road, lived in a polluted city, been the tiniest bit overweight ect while pregnant.

mylittlesandwich · 04/06/2020 13:21

I personally wouldn't do either but I don't think there's a huge risk. I say this as someone who's husband brought Prosciutto to the hospital after DS was born. It was amazing!

turtletum · 04/06/2020 13:23

Yes to both. If its ham bought from a supermarket, it will have been irradiated and is therefore safe to eat. A small glass of bubbly sipped slowly is unlikely to be much of a risk either. Obviously it's up to everyone to decide what risk they find acceptable but for me, this would be fine.

Mulhollandmagoo · 04/06/2020 13:24

You're having both in such tiny amounts so if you're really going to enjoy it, then go for it! I had a small glass of prosecco at new year whilst pregnant though and I couldn't sleep for heartburn 😭

ClaraLane · 04/06/2020 13:25

There’s a higher chance that OP will be involved in a car accident than there is that she’ll get listeria from 2 pieces of ham. Pretty sure you wouldn’t have told her to never get on a car on a strictly “non-essential” journey, you know like seeing friends or going out for the day? It’s this kind of thinking that infantilises women and it’s absolutely ridiculous.
Alyssum34456 · 04/06/2020 13:26

If it's something that you really want to do and will enhance your Birthday then it's probably fine.

I didn't as just didnt feel worth it to me. The ham is more worrying I think.

userabcname · 04/06/2020 13:30

I wouldn't have purely because the champers would have definitely given me heartburn! I did actually eat some kind of ham I probably shouldn't have when I was 20w with dc2 and we were on holiday. But it was fine - nothing came of it.

MindyStClaire · 04/06/2020 13:34

I'm also 8 months. I'd have the champagne and leave the ham, purely because I haven't done enough reading on the risks of cured meats.

Enjoy!

LolaGracie · 04/06/2020 13:34

I’d have both. Happy birthday! 🎉
