Yes

LakieLady · 03/06/2020 20:54

There are loads where I live! Mainly mini wire-haired, but a few mini smooth, and a few standards, approx 2 smooths to every 3 wires.

However, I haven't seen a long-haired of either size for ages, they must be out of fashion.

I used to know someone who bred mini wires. They were fantastic little dogs, really bold and funny. However, she said that they were a nightmare to housetrain and, being small, could wriggle under sofas and things to crap. She reckoned if you pulled out all her furniture, you'd be bound to find daxie shit somewhere. Shock

I can't see a dachshund without grinning, there's something so comical about them.

SecretNutellaFix · 03/06/2020 20:54

Yes. I remember the family where I had singing lessons had one. Hated anyone not family unless he got to know them well. Beautiful dog.
I would never have one though.

Samtsirch · 03/06/2020 20:56

Sausage dog.
They are a popular breed at the moment and seem to be every where.
Very sweet 😊

FourPlasticRings · 03/06/2020 21:00

My query- is it pronounced dash-hund or dax-und? I've heard both. Or is it something else entirely?

Funnyface1 · 03/06/2020 21:02

Thank you. It is the breed of dog yes, nothing more exciting than that. I used the word in a sentence and DH hadn't heard of it, didn't know what I was taking and insisted that "most people" wouldn't know what it was.

I disagreed, think it's a fairly well known word and so we put it to the test. Thanks for proving me right, some of the replies have made me laugh. Off to Google images now, didn't realize they were so cute!

Oh no. Is this a new sex thing I haven't heard of! Confused

Ginfordinner · 03/06/2020 21:14

I would have thought that everyone would know what a daschund is.

The question is how do you pronounce it? Everyone I know says dashoond. My mum's first language was German so I have always pronounced it as daks-hoont, which is the German pronunciation.

Nanny0gg · 03/06/2020 21:20

Daks-hund.

And they're adorable. The most character of any dog I've ever met

Daphnise · 03/06/2020 21:23

I deplore the pronunciations of the word Dachshund I hear so often.

"Dash- hound" is the most common- in all senses of the word.

LemonadeFromLemons · 03/06/2020 21:58

Ooo pronunciation really annoys me. It’s daks-hund. With the daks having a kind of x sound and the hund a sort of elongated u. Hund ends with the same sound as und (and in German).

I have a miniature (not by choice). He’s incredibly sweet (when he wants to be). I would never choose one though. They have the biggest bark instinct going, brilliant guard dogs if you don’t mind the never ending false alarms because you shut a door upstairs etc.. They are also highly likely to end up with back problems unless you take serious and sustained precautions to prevent it. He’s also a greedy little piglet, but that’s kind of cute.

Ginfordinner · 03/06/2020 22:07

I'm glad I'm not the only one who says it properly. I'm in South Yorkshire, and no-one I know says it properly.

zscaler · 03/06/2020 22:49

Yes! My mum has two little miniatures and they are the lights of my life.

Sistersofpercy · 03/06/2020 22:56

Dd has the tiniest mini daxie I've seen. He's seven months now and utterly adorable. Such a huge character in a very small dog.
He runs rings around DD. Haven't half missed him over lockdown.

crispysausagerolls · 03/06/2020 22:56

I AM SO PLEASED PEOPLE COMMENTING ON PRONUNCIATION!!!!!

I always say DAX-Hund, and no one seems to have any bloody idea what I mean!!

Not a fan of the breed though (sorry -MIL has one and it put me off...)

CSIblonde · 03/06/2020 23:04

Yes. The parks are heaving with them in the 'old money' posh bits of London. (& of course, with Labs) I've always wanted one. They have big personalities.

EggGarnish · 03/06/2020 23:09

Yes. I have an accidental unwanted cross breed. Mum was a mini dachshund (or daxie as I say). Best little mate.

EggGarnish · 03/06/2020 23:12

I should add very much wanted by me! Just not the people who’s prized daxie got knocked up by a scruffy terrier. But he’s perfect.

Fuss · 03/06/2020 23:16

Frank(furter).
The biggest littlest dog I've ever met.

Dachshund
Benzer01 · 03/06/2020 23:17

Any pics, Egg?

Benzer01 · 03/06/2020 23:18

So cute, Frank? Still a pup?

copperoliver · 03/06/2020 23:19

Yes. X

babycakes1010 · 03/06/2020 23:20

Yes...reminds me of my one called Jeffrey

Twofurrycatsagain · 03/06/2020 23:21

Yes. Next door have one. She thinks she's a rottweiler though! I pronounce it Germanically. It means Badger dog.
