Can we just stop for a minute and consider how we would all feel about a thread on Pistonheads or similar analysing the appearance of a female MP? (or any other female public figure for that matter).

Come on, we struggle hard enough against objectification/everyday sexism as it is, might be an idea to practice what we preach?

IntermittentParps · 03/06/2020 13:25

Finally starting to feel I can vote Labour again.
Me too!
I keep imagining how Corbyn would have handled the COVID thing and Barnard Castle-gate

Fizzydrinks123 · 03/06/2020 13:27

couldn't vote for someone supporting self-id which sabotages long fought for women's rights to safe spaces.

Starmer is a big supporter of self-id policy Corbyn stood on. Bit of a worry that people may be distracted by the messenger when the message is still the same.

ElsieMc · 03/06/2020 13:42

Today I judged them by their hair on PMQ's. Good God Boris, you are bald on top, just admit it and get it sorted fgs. Lustrous hair on KS.

I think Boris needs to remember that when Keir Starmer asks him a question, as a barrister, he already knows the answer. I think he is measured when asking - but questions are so long, I have forgotten what they were. But when he gets a response he was not prepared for he does this look of shocked incredulity.

Don't like that he appears to be speaking to BJ privately saying one thing then appearing in the HoC and saying another. Boris looked pretty angry about this. But that said, vast improvement on Jeremy Corbyn.

He is in his honeymoon period. If he is the inspiration for Mark Darcy then he is somewhat humourless as I thought. My main concern was he never stepped up the mark (excuse the pun) over the anti-semitism row.

Lemonyfuckit · 03/06/2020 13:42

@NikeDeLaSwoosh
It's a fair comment, and I'm not dismissing it, although I have however noticed that we (I presume predominantly women here) have commented on his face and whether we like it or not, and his intelligence and principles / career and actions which seem to contribute to people thinking he's fanciable. So fairly respectful I think. I might hazard that were a group of men having a similar conversation on a female MP it would quite possibly be a lot lewder.....

Re. Self ID - I am dearly hoping (as I would so like to be able to vote Labour again and for them to have a credible, competent leader I can get behind) that he will see sense on this. I may be wrong but at the time of the leadership contest he did seem a lot less outspoken than Rebecca Long-Bailey and Lisa Nandy in their bonkers proper down the rabbit-hole comments on this.....

Mittens030869 · 03/06/2020 13:43

He certainly does a good job of showing up Johnson's weaknesses, all he can do is whinge about being attacked. Surely he ought to know by now that all Starmar is doing is what is manifestly the job of Leader of the Opposition, to hold the PM to account??

onwheels · 03/06/2020 13:54

yes to then and yes to now even at 57 (i'm 38) he's always had the brains and the looks.

MsTSwift · 03/06/2020 13:58

Fizzy I agree I held my nose and voted LD but disagree with their self id my dream is that KS starts showing GC tendencies then I will finally have someone credible to vote for...

littlemeitslyn · 03/06/2020 13:59

'Colin Filth' 🤣🤣🤣

Fizzydrinks123 · 03/06/2020 14:01

@lemonyfuckit - unfortunately I had hopes for Lisa Nandy too, but all three potential leaders were full on rabbit-hole. Maybe he is tempering his language to each audience, but he is in big on supporting self-id without any concern to how girls/women may be impacted.

Attached you'll need to scroll down for essay he wrote for Pink News in February. He underlined support for reforms to the Gender Recognition Act (GRA), which he said must be overhauled to better support the trans community......We need to reform the GRA to include self-identification and legal recognition of non-binary gender identities.

www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/04/04/keir-starmer-lgbt-new-labour-leader-election-trans-rights-gay-gender-recognition-act/

Still going with the idea that women's rights have to be trounced to enable trans rights to be respected. Not true.

LakieLady · 03/06/2020 14:02

I find him particularly attractive when he's trouncing Boris at PMQs

Grin

That's a very attractive trait, for sure.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 03/06/2020 14:06

littleme that is how he is known in our house. Started as a genuine typo in a text to DH, but then i speculated and reckoned he would be very rude in bed. So it stayed.

BGD2012 · 03/06/2020 14:12

He certainly got Boris going today!

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 03/06/2020 14:12

Changed my mind, I've just seen him pounce on Johnson and eat him for breakfast after slowly, winding him in. He's probably sat using Johnson's middle finger as a toothpick whilst I type.

And now I well and truly have the fanny gallops. Blush

Lemonyfuckit · 03/06/2020 14:21

@Fizzydrinks123 eurrrgh that is so disappointing. Whilst he didn't seem as outspoken as Long-Bailey and Nandy on this I did wonder whether he was just hedging his bets and trying to appeal to all camps, whilst hoping that he would be more gender critical. Well, now I can only hope that as the general public becomes slowly slowly slightly more aware of this stuff, he too may change his views. I've been facing a dilemma on who to vote for anyway (although realise there's unlikely to be a GE for 4 yrs and even a week is a long time in politics) as feel like the only party not pro self-ID at the moment is the Conservatives, and I'm never going to vote for them!

Laiste · 03/06/2020 15:55

@Sparklingbrook - i'm with you on the max headroom thing. I was thinking it and then saw your post.

but i think we're showing our age Grin

pollyhampton · 03/06/2020 16:00

Sorry if it's been mentioned already but my favourite favourite quote about Keir Starmer is that he looks like someone ironed Gordon Ramsey's face.

grannyhorse · 03/06/2020 16:09

He always looks lightly sedated

Anniegetyourgun · 03/06/2020 16:26

To be fair, Gordon Ramsey's face would benefit from a good ironing.

Monstermuncher · 03/06/2020 16:30

I love how he is in completed control at PMQs. That competence is, as someone else has already said, very attractive. Rocks a suit as well. It's a yes from me.

Mittens030869 · 03/06/2020 16:36

It's pretty obvious that BoJo wanted to have the MPs back in the Commons so he could have the support of his friends behind him cheering him on.

Lottapianos · 03/06/2020 16:39

wasnotwasweregood · 03/06/2020 16:58

Anyone else think he looks like he could be Shaun Evans's (Endeavour) Uncle?

Who, Boris Johnson? Totally agree Grin

Starmer reels off a list of questions in that odd nasally way he has while Johnson makes him look an utter fool.
