AIBU to think some people are being very hypocritical over Black Lives Matter

People are, quite rightly, outraged over the killing of George Floyd. On my social media there are loads of posts along the lines of "racism must end" and "all people are equal".

However, many of the people posting this on FB etc are also people who happily expresse the most racist opinions about Travellers. We live in a rural area where Travellers are the largest minority group and the prejudice towards them is horrendous.

AIBU if I point out the irony of this to them? People can't seem to see the parallels.

All lives matter, when a white person dies by an injustice, and yes it has happened. Do whites go on rampage, no!

Unless the injustice you refer to is white people being murdered purely because of the colour of their skin, then your point is irrelevant.

It is funny how the people annoyed by ‘nastiness to white people’ fart and leave, they don’t stay to argue their opinion Grin

SquashedSpring · 03/06/2020 15:22

I would say that this does not feel like the right time to be pointing out white people's behaviour towards other white people. Call out the racism towards tavellers as it happens and let the focus on George Floyd's murder stay where it should be now, on black lives.

I agree with the above poster.

My DH is Jewish but nobody knows this when he walks in a room. We live a privileged life, where opportunities have come our way with not much effort and I think it's right to acknowledge that.

*This is a problem that exists today, and the people who are the victims are simply trying to stay alive. They don't have a choice about what happens to them - racist cops, racist judges, make their lives hell.

Many travellers are fine people. Yet there are dozens who pitch up on land that doesn't belong to them, leave tons (literally) of rubbish, and act aggressively to those who cite local laws. They have a choice to live their lives peacefully and coexist according to the laws of where they live or want to live. They choose not to *

FFS when can we have a sensible discussion about racism?

So all black people are victims? You do realise not all black people buy into Critical Race Theory don't you?

We cannot have a sensible conversation about race until we get away from attitude that unless you buy into this particular narrative about black people then you're a racist.
