Easyjet are planning to resume flight to 75% of its network by August and have jut launched their Summer 2020 sale.

I wonder what makes them so confident everything will be ok travel-wise by that point? Is this a sign that International/European travel will be resuming very shortly?

August = July

Leflic · 02/06/2020 21:24

CaptainBrickbeard Thats at the very least 2/3 months away.Look at the difference between the behaviours in March, April and May.
Greece is lapse about income tax and the countries finance it’s hardly going to worry about pools. If you are all spending money my guess us you’ll ve fine.

loadypoady · 02/06/2020 21:34

@Chandler12

“But from next week you'll need to quarantine for 14 days when you come back to U.K. so unless you want to take 3 weeks annual leave off work for 1 week in the sun, or can afford to take unpaid leave for 2 weeks, why would anyone book right now??hmm”

Folk that are working from won’t need to take any annual leave to isolate.

I am currently WFH and have been told alongside everyone else that if we choose to go on holiday that the quarantine period will have to be taken as annual leave. Some are up in arms about it and others think it’s fair. I’m not bothered either way. I do have a holiday booked for 4th July which if the the FCO advise does not change or quarantine lifted I will move to later in the year.
Moominmammaatsea · 02/06/2020 21:38

No axe to grind here (our preferred annual holiday is a fortnight in West Wales) but I’m wondering if people desperate to travel abroad regardless are considering the feelings of the locals in the country of their choice, especially as we are regarded as the plague nation of Europe?

PinkiOcelot · 02/06/2020 21:39

I was supposed to be going to Corfu on 12 July with easyJet holidays. My balance was due on 13 May.
I got an email from easyJet saying usually if I didn’t pay full balance I would lose the deposit. However because of Covid, if I didn’t pay the balance I would have the deposit credited to my account. That’s what I did do have £120 in my account.
I was happy with that.
I don’t want to go on holiday this year but I’m gutted that I’m not, if that makes sense.

Noextremes2017 · 02/06/2020 21:42

It is all about cash flow.

Easy to pay; difficult to get a refund!

OrSomeSortOfWokAtTheVeryLeast · 02/06/2020 21:44

I dont think they know anything, based on the fact they reinstated flights to and from the isle of man. The boarders have been closed from having a few cases and no plans for them to be re opened yet. (Repatriation has to be pre arranged and coming in via the ferry) The government contacted them and they have now removed them from the website.

CaptainBrickbeard · 02/06/2020 21:44

leflic I do have qualms about the risks Greece is opening itself up to - they are stuck in such a terrible quandary. They need tourism but that means inviting this virus to the islands which have stayed free of it. We are low risk but even so I don’t want to go and expose myself to it nor do I want to be part of spreading it unknowingly. I don’t want to lose my money but I don’t want Greek hotels and restaurants etc to go under either. It’s really awful and I don’t see a good way around it for anyone this summer.

fruitypancake · 02/06/2020 21:45

We have just had out BA flight to Spain cancelled, were due to go end July

Sunndowne · 02/06/2020 21:49

Why is that fruity? Thought travel was unclear. Seems very definite

Sunndowne · 02/06/2020 21:50

Worries me, we need to get my daughter to Spain to start a job.

mrbob · 02/06/2020 21:53

As soon as I can I will be going to Croatia, whether that is flying or driving. I don’t care about restaurants etc being closed. The hills and the Adriatic will still be open

I am sure the people of Croatia will be overjoyed you will be bringing your diseased body to them to spread around your corona love...

MidnightHangingTree · 02/06/2020 22:14

I'm booked to go to a Greek island on 4th July for 2 weeks with Ryanair. As long as they don't cancel it, I will be going. At the moment it is looking like they will be resuming flights/holidays on 1st July, so I have my fingers firmly crossed.

I can work from home for 2 weeks when I get back if we do have to isolate on our return.

houselikeashed · 02/06/2020 22:17

If people can sit crammed into aeroplanes, why can't theatres open?

SeaOtterFluff · 02/06/2020 22:19

I wonder how much of it is driven by people needing to travel for business rather than holidays? And by people wanting to visit relatives overseas? Air travel isn't just about vacations and sightseeing. Plus, as above, people are desperate for normal and airlines need to operate flights to generate an income.

ssd · 02/06/2020 22:23

Business that's all

GabsAlot · 02/06/2020 22:39

@WorriedAboutMom

Still waiting on a refund from EasyJet on the flights they cancelled in March, so are a lot of other people (look at their FB page). We booked directly too. I would never ever book with them again.
i got refund from march did you actually apply for it they dont do it automatically only took a month from original flight date
WorriedAboutMom · 02/06/2020 23:06

Yes as soon as we were allowed to and all we keep being told is that it is being 'processed' and we will just have to wait as there has been a lot of applications. It was paid for by credit card though so the next step for us will be contacting the credit card company. Meanwhile they keep sending emails asking if we'd prefer putting the money towards another holiday (NO!).

LockdownLove · 02/06/2020 23:06

We are booked to fly via Amsterdam to CHINA in August. Tickets were booked last autumn. Today I received my electronic tickets! Was really surprised.

If I cancel in June I “only” lose the flights as the Chinese tour company are letting us cancel by the end of June and get our deposit back.

Am pretty sure we won’t go but hard to make a choice 3 months out.

expat101 · 02/06/2020 23:15

Internal flights in NZ are expanding. There is talk of a trans tasman bubble by 1st July, although some states are dragging their heels a bit, maybe sooner for pacific regions.

It's only a matter of time that this includes the UK. USA might lag behind though. Plenty of European tourists missed flights home just as covid started, they are keen to get back.

babbi · 02/06/2020 23:59

I’m astonished at so many people talking about holidays and queues for the beaches , pools closed etc but no mention of travel health insurance?
I’m a very frequent flyer both business and leisure and no way will I be going anywhere overseas until next year at the earliest .
My annual travel insurance policy came in today with the renewal notice saying in huge bold type ... Insurance does not cover any illness related to Covid -19

Please everyone be very careful.
I’ve lived overseas a lot in my life and have witnessed many sad situations of people becoming ill away from home and being extremely vulnerable trying to access healthcare when insurance is either not in place or does have not sufficient cover for the patient.

Jeremyironsnothing · 03/06/2020 00:32

I think it's so the individuals covers the cost if they choose not to go, rather than the travel company and the insurance company. If people are fool enough to go, then it's at their own risk.

Playing with fire.

Ghostlyglow · 03/06/2020 07:59

Where do you work @loadypoady ? We've been told we can work through the quarantine period (those of us WFH obviously) when we get back - if anyone actually managed to go on holiday that is.

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 08:07

I know all this babbi but not everyone feels they can throw away and already fully paid holiday. People who book early for summer hols are in massive rock /hard place territory here and Simon Calder etc. told us all to pay up in full!

bubblev · 03/06/2020 08:20

I think they are desperate, if they declare they are open etc people may feel confident to book & they have some cash flow.

I won't be flying for a while. I don't trust the airline companies to put my individual safety over profits plus I can't be bothered with social distancing, queuing in airports.
