I admit I love threads like this so thought I would start one. Its a long post and I don't expect any replies I am just prattling because I have had to take strong painkillers. I saw an old YouTube video of a man going to the camelot office to collect 8.5 million. Nothing was said about what he was going to buy.
If I won a lot, millions I would design a house for myself and husband and daughter. I have Rheumatoid arthritis and the one treatment that works without side effects is hydrotherapy but I haven't been able to get any long term since childhood so I would have a pool.
It would feature a lounge with a surround sound TV, kitchen/dining area. Utility room with sink. Study, small gym just a treadmill and bike, a main bathroom with bath for DH & DD, walk in shower for me double with seating.
Two big bedrooms with ensuite toilet and sink. A third bedroom and lots of storage.
The grounds would have a gazebo, koi carp for DD, greenhouse for DH, water feature resembling a Brook with small wooded area and natural seating that looked like a fallen tree.
Bird boxes and tables, bower, bee friendly flowerbeds and a little picnic table would complete it nicely.
Not that I have thought about it much. 🤣🤣🤣
I don't care about loads of holidays abroad(although I want to see the tulip fields in Amsterdam). I don't care about expensive clothes and jewelery or cars (DH & I don't drive). My only other splash out would be proper medical treatment and a cleaner.

I want a secret room. Don’t know what would be in it, I just want a secret room!

SpillTheTeaa · 02/06/2020 22:45

I would have 5 bedrooms with a converted barn/home on the land for my parents when they either visit or need to come live with me in older age etc.
I'd love a beauty room for me and game room for DS.
Must have a utility room and a kitchen island Grin.
I would also like the garden to have some sort of 'park' place too. Nothing fancy just a nice space for some swings, slides etc.
Actually fuck it. I'll throw a swimming pool in there to!

SpillTheTeaa · 02/06/2020 22:46

Oh and a Wendy house then a treehouse for when he gets older Grin

Ohdeariedear · 02/06/2020 22:53

I spend long bike rides planning my Lottery House.

It’s big and in the countryside. I think it’s a big old Scottish stone villa with an amazing modern timber clad extension or two, so I can have both a big open plan living space with smaller rooms with open fires for cosy winter nights. It’s got a big grand wooden staircase that has turns in it. It’s got beautiful artwork and furniture that I’ve commissioned from makers across the country. Superking beds for all.

There a utility room somewhere with industrial sized washers and dryers and one of those wee kitchen lifts They have in restaurants to lift the washing/anything up and down from the upstairs. The kitchen has a huge, long island with loads of drawers and a wall of cupboards. And a MASSIVE American fridge and freezer.

Outside, there’s a three or four car garage with a room above it that’s the gym.

Each family member gets a garden room each, located in the spot of their choice on the grounds.

And also a wee cottage by the sea.

Ohdeariedear · 02/06/2020 22:55

@echt oh yes, I forgot a verandah - a highland Scottish one with tiled roof and painted pine tree trunks as the supports. Classic.

Ohdeariedear · 02/06/2020 22:58

actually [[https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-90446294.html this one]] might do...

DKanin · 02/06/2020 23:47

I'd have a huf house - with lots of floor to ceiling glass, very minimalist and slick, overlooking a lake.

For my holiday home I'd like a villa nestled in the hillside with an infinity pool in Corsica (it's a house I saw when I was on holiday as a teenager)

RingaRosie · 02/06/2020 23:53

The house that Amy Adams lives in, in that space movie. In Amsterdam.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 03/06/2020 00:03

I’d buy the patch of land just up the road, and have an energy efficient modular home built.

Apirateslifeforme · 03/06/2020 00:17

I'd like a nice 4 bed detached house. Nothing too spectacular. I'd want a cleaner each day to make sure the place was always gleaming. I'd go cheaper here so I could get something of the same par in FL.
Bung enough for a house deposit in savings for DD.
If I hadoney left over, I would invest in land to build property for people for low incomes at a reduced rate, both in the UK and FL.

Mythica · 03/06/2020 00:20

Basically Rivendell 😄

junecat · 03/06/2020 00:21

I would buy a house in Greece. A traditional one with outside areas covered with vines so we could put a table out there for meals. Don't care about pools but I'd love an outdoor all year dining area!

Forgothowtospell · 03/06/2020 00:26

@PsuedoSatisfactionBaby 😂😂😂😂😂

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/06/2020 00:26

My dh and I have an agreement - he picks the plot, I design the house. So he would want mountains and beach (dunno where the feck he will get that on his doorstep).

I would have:-
A family room in the middle of the house with squishy sofas and an open fire. And a big coffee table for board games and take aways.
A big dining kitchen (the dining area to be more like an orangery) with an external kitchen garden with raised beds.
A larder.
A separate utility room (probably upstairs).
A snug with lots of books and a little gin bar in the corner.
In the very top of the house a sleepover room - lots of single bunks built into the eaves, bean bags, consoles, pool table etc for the kids to have friends round whenever.
A bathroom that belonged only to me.

Beyond that..

Whatever anyone else wanted.

Cattenberg · 03/06/2020 01:17

A big, white, symmetrical detached house with sea or mountain views.
Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, an art studio and a playroom for DD.
A huge greenhouse containing tropical plants and trees, a thatched beach hut and an infinity pool.

MeglaFlop · 03/06/2020 01:29

A small cottage in the middle of a copse or woods, enough land for a few paddocks and the only neighbours being the odd farmer.

Oh and a village shop/pub within 3m (walking distance).

SunflowerSuit · 03/06/2020 01:45

An old farmhouse with lots of windows, thick walls, Laura Ashley wallpaper In the bedrooms and a kitchen in the heart of the home with a huge garden encompassing fruit trees, a vegetable patch, an outside studio and a swing. There would be rooms on the left and the right of the front door. Not too big as there’s only me and my son. And I would have a dog.

It wouldn’t have any tiles on the floor anywhere apart from the bathroom and kitchen and there would be an attic room. There would also be somewhere (an annex) to put up elderly relatives if needed in the future.

clipclop5 · 03/06/2020 05:08

A massive, stylish mansion in the Cotswolds with stables, arena and paddocks would be the dream🤩

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/06/2020 05:54

I would genuinely stay where I live. I love it. It's only a semi but it has a lovely garden with beautiful views onto the woods. You can go 60 miles off road and end in the Lake District one direction (never actually done the whole thing!) or be in the town centre one mile walk in the other direction.

I would like a pool though so might need to buy next door and knock it down to get that!

Shoxfordian · 03/06/2020 06:18

I'd have a central london penthouse flat with a wrap around terrace and views of the river.

Cam2020 · 03/06/2020 06:40

Depends on the Jackpot! If it were the usual Lotto jackpot around £2m, I'd get a pretty standard but nice house and focus on cutting down work to PT, hobbies, holidays etc, give some to family, invest some for my daughter and that's it - almost gone. I'd need a bigger jackpot Grin

SquishyBones · 03/06/2020 07:27

A country house in the middle of nowhere. Infact, I already know the house i would buy. It’s a 5 bedroomed farm house just outside of the city I live in. It has lots of land with outbuildings so I’d have loads of dogs, grow my own veggies, have chickens etc. I don’t go for modern and fancy but my arm could be twisted into getting a hot tub for the back patio

listentoreason · 03/06/2020 08:14

I'd have my own built but it wouldn't be a mansion, just a spacious five bed house. I'd love a sea view, a walk in larder, a wet room for after mucky dog walks, space for a ping pong table, and an indoor/outdoor pool and entertaining area. Not bothered about loads of land but wouldn't want to be overlooked! I don't want much.

PinkMic · 03/06/2020 09:01

I would never ever get behind the wheel of a car again and get a driver

I've often thought I'd like to pay someone to just be available when I wanted a ride anywhere.

I'm happy enough with out house, it just needs sprucing up. Would absolutely want to have a big garden with a stream in it though.

draughtycatflap · 03/06/2020 09:13

Silent movie star Roman Novarro’s Art Deco era house in LA. I’m currently reading Novarro’s biography and dreamt about this Mayan Revivalist Lloyd-Wright masterpiece last night.

Updated if you won the lottery jackpot what sort of house would you like?
