WIBU to play the guitar and sing in my back garden?

Reading the multitude of threads over recent weeks about people enraging each other with their garden behaviours - barbecues, bonfires, even bagpipes Shock

I was thinking about getting my guitar outside this afternoon and playing a bit of music in my garden. It's a large garden but we do have neighbours on both sides who would certainly hear it if they were outside. I am not dreadful (I used to get paid to do it) but of course that doesn't mean it's to everyone's taste! It's folk music, mostly. My neighbours do have parties (when not in lockdown), have noisy children, play their own pop music in the garden and one of them is a welder so it's not always quiet.

WIBU?

"I am not dreadful (I used to get paid to do it)"
Sounds fine to me. An unamplified guitar in next door's garden wouldn't bother me. If it did, I might bring my radio out and have it beside me (on a low setting!) to drown it out, but probably wouldn't.

Occasionally I hear a neighbour from my back garden playing the piano and singing. Truth be told he's not the best of singers but pretty good on the piano. I quite like it.

I'd love it if one of my neighbours did this!

Please don't. Indoors is fine, but outside is just cringe worthy and folk music is shit

FranklyDearIDontRiverdance · 02/06/2020 13:07

Another one who would hate this.

I just don’t get why people think it’s OK to inflict their musical choices on the people around them. If I play any music I make sure that I can’t hear it beyond my patio (so it’s pretty quiet!).

My neighbour has great musical taste - similar to my own - and it can still piss me off when I hear it.

Why?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/06/2020 13:38

Because I love guitar music and adore folk music. It's not played often enough these days.

I love music nights at the pub and I love hearing neighbours playing the piano.

It's most of the modern shite I can't stand.

Seems a bit self-indulgent to me...

How big is your garden? If you can do it so that's it's just background music them half an hour would be ok. If they can hear every word and strum then not really.

AnnPerkins · 03/06/2020 10:17

We don't complain if neighbours have Spotify on in their gardens during the afternoon when we're working. Half an hour's quiet strumming and singing is perfectly reasonable.

I really honestly miss the bagpipes from when I was growing up. Someone who lived maybe a mile away played them of an evening. It was so lovely.
