Are the people protesting in London mad?

408 replies

JKD1982 · 31/05/2020 23:03

I agree that what happened in the USA is appalling but why would anyone risk their own health and go against all the social distancing rules to protest in London? It won’t make a difference to what’s happened and could cause another crisis in London hospitals because people catch COVID.

AIBU thinking they are mad and there is a better way (from a laptop?) to express anger

@ToffeeYoghurt

I don't need to hope for anything. I stand by what I said.

Sick and disgusting

Noted. Anything else you want to teach us about racism?

changeitupagain · 01/06/2020 04:03

@WhatwouldLangdo

"Ok, I'm black and racist so worse than the white people doing the killing."

Never said this, thanks for putting words in my mouth. You are black and that comment was racist. You are not worse than anyone doing any killing for one remark but your off the cuff blase racist remark is worse than the same thing from a white person because you have experienced oppression due to skin colour, and casual racism (which is what that remark was) and yet you still continue to engage in casual racism against other marginalised races without thought or the good grace to apologise.

"Still going out to protest and putting that at a higher priority than Covid."

For this I think you are a selfish idiot and contributing to the spread and putting others at risk, not for the protesting but for the gathering that it entails. But you are just one of thousands of idiots gathering and putting others at risk.

"I also use the word disabled for myself and not differently abled like some identify as so I obviously hate people who use the words I don't 🙄"

This is an entirely different thing. It's two different and interchangeable terms and people adopt the one they identify with.

Black and brown are two entirely different races, they are not interchangeable, I am brown and Bangladeshi, not black in any way, and if I called myself such I would be lying. Yet I am still a marginalised race that you said shouldn't have an opinion regarding the oppression of BAME people.

frazzledfatty · 01/06/2020 04:10

@changeitupagain did you respond to my reply about whether the protests would be worth the risk if they lead to change?

ChocolatelyAsFuck · 01/06/2020 04:11

Numerous?? Who?

Um, the “three or four sidekicks” you were kicking up such a fuss about a few minutes ago? Can you not stop contradicting yourself for one second?

Report all you like, no one has broken talk guidelines.

All you’ve done on this thread is lie, twist people’s words, gaslight, use hostile language, throw nasty personal insults around, and generally be abusive and borderline racist in dismissing black people’s concerns.

Any hypothetical “new poster” can see that.

Last week you couldn't sit on a park bench without murdering care home residents. Now this mass gathering is fine? You are all batshit on here.

Pixxie7 · 01/06/2020 04:15

Why has this become so hostile? The OP asked a very valid question.

changeitupagain · 01/06/2020 04:15

@frazzledfatty

Sorry I have been preoccupied fighting against the causal racism which no one else has thought to call out.

And no, I don't believe in utilitarianism, in sacrificing one life to possibly save more others. And in this case I think the risk is too great and will cause death so I don't think the risk is worth it if it's one death to stop another.

@ToffeeYoghurt how come you can't even take on board other viewpoints?

ChocolatelyAsFuck · 01/06/2020 04:20

Why has this become so hostile?
And because it’s goady to re-start a deleted thread. The first iteration of this threat was started for a reason.

Toffee just stop lying and being abusive. Anyone with eyes can see that you’re the only one doing the things you accuse all the BAME posters of doing (when you’re not lecturing us about how we’re not “civilised” enough and how you don’t find our debating style up to scratch).

The only one engaging in DARVOing is you.

frazzledfatty · 01/06/2020 04:20

@changeitupagain so you don't see anything wrong with @ToffeeYoghurts posts?

Fair enough.

changeitupagain · 01/06/2020 04:23

@frazzledfatty

I see some wrong, I see some right. I haven't engaged for a multitude of reason.

One being I feel the greater need to call out the casual racism by another poster, silencing other marginalised groups which I take direct offence to I am one of those marginalised groups.

I find it frankly disgusting that no other poster has called out this racism.

Do you think @WhatWouldLangDo 's comment was acceptable?

frazzledfatty · 01/06/2020 04:39

@change I can see why that comment is problematic & offensive however in the context of the topic of this thread & as it was in response to @ToffeeYoghurt (who I think has shown borderline racism & done a shed lot of minimising) I don't think it was racist.

JKD1982,

Protests achieved a lot actually. Montgomery bus protest and and the sit in protests in North Carolina, achieved quite a lot actually.

Arguably had there been very quiet, non disruptive protests civil rights at that time would never have been addressed.

It is evident when people who are lucky enough not to have never experienced any form of oppression in their lives.
