To be happy at being under 11stone for the first time since 2014?

I'm a shorter than average women and for the past 5 years have been obese - hovering around 13stone (I'm 5ft1). I've felt uncomfortable, my mental health has suffered as I could never seem to stick to a diet and exercise plan. In 2020 I've made a determined effort to lose weight and feel I'm finally making some progress at last.
I didn't have a good night's sleep so don't feel the best this morning just wanted to shamelessly post this to cheer myself up.

Wow... okay... what do you think made you suddenly find the motivation and stick to it?

Chicchicchicchiclana · 30/05/2020 19:49

Yabu.

800 calories Shock what's a normal day's food on that - and will you now increase it slightly?

OneNewName · 30/05/2020 19:51

Well done! Flowers Do you mind me asking how old you are? (I.e. pre or post menopause).

LockdownSlimmingQueen · 30/05/2020 19:59

OK Sadie789 I'm glad you asked me that because it's something I've thought about many a time. I've gone over in my mind why on earth didn't I start this diet in 2017/2018/2019?

I got so used to vowing to diet, then giving up and overeating on high calorie foods that I'd vow to start dieting again the following week - typically Monday so I'd binge typically eat all weekend! This is when I was working and realistically this kind of vicious circle meant that my mood was spiralling to possibly non diagnosed /functioning depression and I was getting tearful in work - my relationships with my work colleagues was also deteriorating to being practically non existent. Before this year, I'd also tell myself things like - you've not stuck to a diet for ages, why do you think you'll do it now? So in other words it was a negative mind set.
I can only think that the lockdown changed it and motivated me - first working from home and shortly afterwards furlough. I felt maybe now I wasn't working I simply HAD to lose weight because I couldnt afford my general sense of wellbeing to deteriorate any more. I wanted to lose it quickly so started on 800 calories a day. Also, because I wasn't working, during furlough a lot of the other pressures have been taken off leaving me more time to diet and exercise successfully.

OneNewName - a daily intake would be
few slices unbuttered toast
packet salad
cooked chicken from the supermarket where cals already counted out

Yes I can see how lockdown would help and give the opportunity to really focus... I would have been the same but for the two young children constantly hanging off me!

Sadie789 · 30/05/2020 20:14

However, I am getting a tummy tuck later in the year which can’t happen if I am this overweight so that is a decent motivation going forward. The run I think will be harder than the diet for me.

LockdownSlimmingQueen · 30/05/2020 20:15

Ahh - you'll do it if you're determined Sadie especially with that motivation!

I started a few weeks ago I’ve 10lbs to go to hit my first target then after that I’ll access how I feel and make a new goal.

How’s your mental health now that the weights coming off, do you feel happier & more confident?

Well done OP! I've been teetering at just over 11 stone for a few weeks, trying to lose weight but I keep falling off the wagon at weekends. You've given me a bit of hope.

LockdownSlimmingQueen · 30/05/2020 23:46

Keep going user127819!!! and good luck!!

First of all well done!! Second of all stop with the 800 cals a day as this won't last and then when you stop you will yo yo right back to your old weight. This is a crash diet and they only work temporarily. Just eats 6 small meals a day to keep your matabolism high. Stop eating after 8pm and do some form of exercise. Don't eat rubbish food during the week but allow one day a week to have a pizza or an icecream. Or Heck even both. That one day will be your cheat day. And that one day will keep you on track the rest of the week, knowing you are being healthy but still have that treat to look forward to at the end of the week x

Zoeyclash · 31/05/2020 07:43

Well done!!! That's a fantastic achievement! I am hoping to get under 11 stone also - I have 3lbs to go. I find the new stay-at-home situation has helped me to focus on eating healthily and I have more time to get out for a walk. I can't wait to be 10 stone something. I haven't been under 11 stone in almost 12 years. Well done again LockdownSlimmingQueen.
