I'm trying to put my kids to bed. That is all.

AIBU?

There were so many fireworks going off here just now I wondered if I'd just woken from a long sleep and it was actually Nov 5th.

Neron · 28/05/2020 20:06

And the fireworks, and the music, and banging pots/pans/glasses etc

YANBU

SparklyRocco · 28/05/2020 20:06

A train sitting in our local station honked its horn tonight - you’d be raging OP Grin

recklessruby · 28/05/2020 20:06

Yanbu. Isnt tonight supposed to be the last ever clap?
Fireworks here too and a frightened cat.

BeltaneBride · 28/05/2020 20:07

Yep just had all that followed by the poor dogs barking.
Had anyone considered that their might be exhausted care workers sleeping on a rest day who just want a bit of peace?

Squashpocket · 28/05/2020 20:08

Please god let this be the end of this.

OP posts:
Geometricprince · 28/05/2020 20:08

Yep and the fireworks.

avocadont · 28/05/2020 20:09

The ships honk in my city, I have a month old baby, it's really fun.

Geometricprince · 28/05/2020 20:10

Apparently it is the last one, I hope so because the people making the most noise around here are the same ones who've been completely ignoring social distancing. It's got fuck all to do with the NHS

CrystalTipped · 28/05/2020 20:11

It's a competitive racket. We have neighbouring streets doing call and respond with airhorns. It sounded extra aggressive tonight. At some point (in my area anyway) it stopped being gratitude and started being about territory marking. I half expect them to finish up by peeing on the side of their houses.

Squashpocket · 28/05/2020 20:12

I fucking hate the whole thing. I've missed every single one because both my kids go to sleep at 8pm on the dot and I'm not prepared to fuck about with their carefully managed bedtime routine. So I've got anxiety that the neighbours think I'm a dick now as well ffs.

OP posts:
Ragwort · 28/05/2020 20:13

I must admit I didn't go out tonight, but all the neighbours seemed to congregate round my house including a very noisy child banging a saucepan. I was trying to concentrateon Mumsnet and they are all talking and screeching loudly. I shut the window firmly and a few people glanced over ... but they are not really the sort of neighbours to be sarky about it Grin.

Neron · 28/05/2020 20:16

Most of my neighbours are hypocritical twats. I really hope it's the last one, it's become a show of who can make the most noise. I'm becoming more grumpy with it the longer it goes on

SomeBunny · 28/05/2020 20:17

Yep. It woke my 8 month old up this week because her bedroom was warm and we’d cracked open her top window. Her room faces away from the road and we live down a cul de sac in a small village, which gives you some idea of how loud it’s gotten.

No I have it here - thank you!
But you know those cute little snuggly kids you don’t want disturbed? Fast forward 20-25 years and ... they’re health care assistants or drs in A&E or nurses and there’s a pandemic on. They are terrified and as their mum so are you. The clap for Carers has been a lovely moving tribute/appreciation. If your view of it is that it’s just something that interrupts the bedtime routine then think yourself lucky.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 28/05/2020 22:56

We have a shotgun firing too. Always two shots after the beeping and banging has finished. A nice Somerset finale Grin

Judiwench · 28/05/2020 23:04

It's not dark at 8pm here. What's the fucking point in fire works other than to terrify small children and dogs?

MrsRenard · 28/05/2020 23:09

Yeah I don’t get that either - one of our dogs really suffers with fireworks noise and like you say, why, why why when it’s not even dark ? So yes they are bastards but possibly well intentioned bastards?

HorsesDoovers · 28/05/2020 23:14

We had bagpipes. I kid you not. I hope its the last one, I really do.

MrsRenard · 28/05/2020 23:17

Well-intentioned bagpipe playing bastards ?

Judiwench · 28/05/2020 23:27

HorsesDoovers us too. Every week. Unfortunately it was my dad so no escape.

woodenknotty · 28/05/2020 23:28

I live in the middle of nowhere and haven't see the 'clapping' at all. Tonight I had to collect something and went through the village. People were literally walking in front of my car and waving pans at it as if to say cmon then beep your horn.
I was cringing inside if I'm honest. They all looked like this was the best entertainment they'd had in ages. Poor sods.
YANBU!

acatcalledjohn · 28/05/2020 23:42

Around here there are calls to continue with the weekly clap when on the local FB group it was suggested they make this last one the loudest one yet.

Someone suggested that this last extra loud one called for their paella pan. Must be louder than other pan types. Hmm

It's all very "look at me". I gave up after week one.
