To be so happy that we can now meet up to 6 people in our garden.

I am so excited at the increased relaxation of the rules. I did a little dance in the kitchen and was straight on the phone inviting my sister and her family and my friends (on separate occasions) around for a bbq. At last!

I just hope people don't take the mick and force us to go backwards. Although I bet people do.

This has been happening around here since VE Day so Boris is a month behind.

Drivingdownthe101 · 28/05/2020 21:02

I'm kind of nervous that so many people are so excited because I hope they realise it won't be like normal. If it is then that's surely a sign you're not doing it right?

Who has said it’s going to be like normal? I just want to see my mum, that’s why I’m excited. I don’t care if it means she has to bring her own hotdog Confused

Cam2020 · 28/05/2020 21:02

Me too! I couldn't give a shit about the shops (although I realise the econmical importance), I just want to see my family!

thaegumathteth · 28/05/2020 21:03

Nobody said that but I think it's a legitimate concern that relaxation of guidelines may bring about a greater relaxation in actuality.

Which the government are aware of, and will have factored into their decision making.

Happy but also glad they can't go in the house - the introvert it me knows that means it'll be short but sweet and nobody can terrify the baby by trying to pass him round 🤣

cologne4711 · 28/05/2020 21:06

I'm pleased about this if it means my son can finally get back to his athletics training.

Can't say I am looking forward to all the loud parties going on into the early hours though - and you can't ask people to go inside :(

I was expecting this though, it would have been ludicrous to partially reopen schools and then tell everyone else they can only meet one other person still.

Boulshired · 28/05/2020 21:06

If the last few weeks are anything to go by where I am people will start tape measured chairs and hand sanitizer followed by lots of alcohol and finished with a farewell conga line in the garden.

Echobelly · 28/05/2020 21:11

Great news, but I do hope the government is clear - I assume it's up to 6 in a garden including ones' own household, and I think they will have to clarify and also clarify what a 'household' is, as I still think not everyone is clear on that (eg they think it might include family who don't live with them).

I think we have to be both glad and careful - I think some friends are being too cynical and too alarmist as not everything is a massive huge risk that's going to lead to widespread infection.

Yes, people may have to walk through houses, but they're not going to give everyone COVID just by walking from back to front, and outdoor really is very low risk, which is why they are allowing it.

Gov also needs to be clear about what's too often - my inclination would be not to have people over/go to someone else's house more than once a fortnight to be on the safe side.

NoHardSell · 28/05/2020 21:12

It's like a different world on here. I guess I am glad this makes you happy. Have a lovely time.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 28/05/2020 21:14

DD's birthday is on Sunday. She'll be 8. She's coped fantastically well throughout all this, has been a great sister to her little brother and I'm looking forward to treating her. I know Boris said Monday but I'm starting a day early so family that she's missed so much can watch her enjoy her special day.

Whatsmyname26 · 28/05/2020 21:15

Using toilets is fine. I’m really excited about this relaxation too. My mental health has nose dived and this might help save it

It was vague, so open to interpretation, we need clearer guidelines. I was hoping it would be more often than that, maybe one/two visits a week?

I am so happy we can see other people. I'm hoping people don't take the piss with large gatherings without social distancing and they make us stay inside again.

1981m · 28/05/2020 21:19

Mmm need to think the food through carefully. If the food is cooked and then moved around with utensils onto peoples plates but not touched by hand is that ok? Cook the food for visitors and for us separately?

If I prepare side dishes washing my hands before and after wouldn't that be enough? Wash again before touching bowls to carry out. Separate portions for visitors and us?

I don’t understand your comment @NoHardSell. Why shouldn’t we be happy about seeing family or friends within the guidelines?
underneaththeash · 28/05/2020 21:34

Doesn’t really work for us as we are a family of 6! But I assume that if we leave kids inside we can do adult drinks for 2 families...
We’re also having fake ladies Ascot on the 18th got ladies day - do that will be going ahead too,

LouiseTrees · 28/05/2020 21:44

In Scotland we’ve just gone from seeing no one to being allowed up to 8 people at a time in a garden. Right at a good weather weekend. Praying I don’t jinx the weather now.

Drivingdownthe101 · 28/05/2020 21:52

What do you mean, @NoHardSell? Why is it so strange that people are happy to see friends or family?

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 28/05/2020 22:34

So I can't eat a burger from my parents' BBQ , I have to take my own but I can get one from McDonald's in a week or so?
