To think it's disgusting to put pictures of an injured pensioner on social media for praise

I've just seen this in a Facebook group. A pensioner had fallen over in the road and sustained a head injury. Along comes this twit with a camera, helps him up then takes pictures to splash all over social media beckoning people to tell him how heroic he is.

The elderly I know are very proud people and wouldn't take kindly to this humiliation, nor would I be happy if it were a relative of mine and I stumbled across this online.

I've covered the man's face (who doesn't look impressed at all) but the poster didn't, and now it has reached thousands of people who are in the comments telling the poster how wonderful he is.

Disgusting. AIBU? Am I just a miserable git?

Absolutely vile. Some people have no shame.

cosmo30 · 28/05/2020 10:30

It's all about them making themselves look good. Poor bloke. Although I am glad someone helped even if they did make it about bragging afterwards

Azaziel · 28/05/2020 10:31

But..but... they’re INSPIRING people op!!🙄🙄

CanWeGoOutsideYet · 28/05/2020 10:32

It has 5.6 thousand 'likes' and over a thousand comments blowing smoke up his arse. Unbelievable

OP posts:
AgentProvocateur · 28/05/2020 10:32

I know it’s not the point, but “amberlance”! Attention seeker and thick.

CanWeGoOutsideYet · 28/05/2020 10:34

I've commented on the post and said what I have here, I don't suppose my comment will be on there for long as it contradicts the virtue signalling bollocks.

Ohtherewearethen · 28/05/2020 10:34

Oh this is dreadful. Can't anyone eat dinner, watch a film, go to hospital or help someone without sharing it on social media anymore? It's very unattractive, needy, attention seeking. I hope someone comments that this gentleman may not have wanted his photo and details of his accident posted all over Facebook just so this twit could get his ego stroked.

Unshriven · 28/05/2020 10:36

Is that Facebook?

Do pepole purposely drop all rules of spelling and grammar when they post there?

It reads as though he actively wants to seem semi literate.

ParkheadParadise · 28/05/2020 10:36

Doesn't surprise me. Some people are vile.
When my dd was murdered a Facebook group in my hometown put pictures of the police and it had over 200 comments. Everyone of them knew what had happened (made up shit) but no one came forward with any information. My sister contacted the group and got it taken down.
I bloody hate posts like that. That poor lady is upset enough without some arsehole taking pictures of her.
I would have rammed the phone up his arse.

Shameless attention seeking. I hope the gentleman was okay.

EmeraldShamrock · 28/05/2020 10:47

Actually I saw the photo attached.
The issue should to highlighted, I wrongly assumed they filmed his fall

The fact people walked on ignoring an injured elderly man needs to be highlighted. Good on him.

CourtneyLurve · 28/05/2020 10:48

I think posting photos of anyone on social media without their consent should be illegal. We're at the stage where these things can effect people's livelihoods (not the elderly man in this photo, but in general).

EmeraldShamrock · 28/05/2020 10:49

@ParkheadParadise That is awful, I'm so sorry. Flowers

CanWeGoOutsideYet · 28/05/2020 10:50

@ParkheadParadise I'm so sorry, that is awful Flowers

The poster is claiming people were just walking by and leaving him on the ground. I don't buy it. Irrespective of the pandemic I think the majority of people would stop and help him. He just wants praise.

Fluffybutter · 28/05/2020 10:51

That’s disgusting .
He does seem a bit dim though

CorianderLord · 28/05/2020 10:52

Akin to filming people giving the homeless food. It's not worth it to them if they don't get something out of it. Hideous

CanWeGoOutsideYet · 28/05/2020 10:52

This is the reply I got to my comment saying the post is in bad taste:

Ironically, accusing others of virtue signalling might itself constitute virtue signalling – just signalling to a different audience. Whether it should be counted as virtue signalling or not, the accusation does exactly what it accuses others of: it moves the focus from the target of the moral claim to the person making it. It can therefore be used to avoid addressing the moral claim made.

Nothing worse then an all out disagreement on FB for all to see over a stranger.
My friend recently out up a meme she was accused of feminist nazi NAMALT etc etc it was cringeworthy.

EmeraldShamrock · 28/05/2020 11:09

My DM collapsed years ago people walked by. An old friend was robbed stabbed people walked by while he bleed.
You're very naive if you don't believe people walk by especially under today's circumstances.

x2boys · 28/05/2020 11:18

It doesn't surprise me ,he would also have ignored the injured man if it had,nt been for the likes ,why peop!e can't just help other with out making a song and dance about it is beyond ,me someone I know bought a homeless person a McDonald's meal she had post it on Facebook of course with a picture of herself and the person and the inevitable your so kind comments 🙄

CanWeGoOutsideYet · 28/05/2020 11:19

I would like to think most people would stop to help regardless of covid but maybe I am naive in that respect.

Emerald that is terrible and the passers by should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm not a wonderful person by any stretch but I would definitely have helped in this situation, the thought of them putting it online is quite shameful.

I agree it's akin to feeding the homeless and filming it. I know somebody who did that, and he's one of the biggest arseholes I know. He certainly wasn't doing it out of the goodness of his heart, he just wanted footage for his YouTube channel.

OP posts:
Besom · 28/05/2020 11:25

I dunno - I had to help an old man who was unwell and then collapsed on a very busy street. Lots of people went past before I got to him.

There supposedly is a thing called the 'genovese effect' or diffusion of responsibility where the more people there are the less likely individuals are to help - they think someone else will do it. It's not really that people are being bad.

ParkheadParadise · 28/05/2020 11:25

I would stop and help.

A complete stranger found my dd on his way home from work. He stayed with her until the police came. He NEVER spoke about it or gave any interviews. He also had to injure the court case.
There is kind and honest people in this world along with plenty of arseholes.
