to think DH was irresponsible and foolish?

DH, DS, DD and I have been isolating, working from home, all food delivered etc.

Today DH invited his brother to our house (first rule broken). BiL and girlfriend (second rule broken) turn-up and they sit in the garden (third rule broken). They stayed for about 2.5 hours, sitting 2m apart. Didn't go inside the house.

I think this was stupid and immoral, but DH thinks I'm being over-cautious.

AIBU?

It would have been fine in the park - can’t see why garden is different.

Aquamarine1029 · 25/05/2020 22:00

I wouldn't lose sleep over this, personally.

ihatethecold · 25/05/2020 22:00

It’s fine. They stayed outside.

Nicknacky · 25/05/2020 22:02

Would it have been better for you if they met in a park?

CurtainWitcher · 25/05/2020 22:06

I would have preferred if DH had met his brother alone and in a public place. I thought that was the rule?

Hohofortherobbers · 25/05/2020 22:08

Who knows anymore? It seems the rules are made to be broken

thunderthighsohwoe · 25/05/2020 22:08

He should have driven 300 miles to see them instead. Apparently that’s not against the rules.

Ohtherewearethen · 25/05/2020 22:08

Ok, bit rule breaking aside, how is the risk any greater?

bigchris · 25/05/2020 22:08

It wouldn't bother me , they didn't come inside, they didn't eat and drink did they ?

No more risks than goimg to Tesco, primark etc is opening in 2 weeks

BillywilliamV · 25/05/2020 22:09

Let us know if they all survive OP, that will be the acid test!

sauvignonblancplz · 25/05/2020 22:12

In Ireland you’re allowed to gather in the garden in groups of 6. I really wouldn’t worry.

Sharkyfan · 25/05/2020 22:12

Why have you been full on isolating and not going out anywhere like to the supermarket? Are you shielding? Have you not been taking kids out for exercise?

Might be technically against the rules still but I couldn’t get excited about it.
Does seem silly you can be 2m from strangers in a park but not in your own garden? Doesn’t make sense if you can stick to it at home I think it’s fine

RedskyAtnight · 25/05/2020 22:17

Is someone in the family in the "shielding" category (based on the fact you seem to be totally isolating?

CurtainWitcher · 25/05/2020 22:18

BiL had a glass of water, but his girlfriend had nothing.

I just feel as though it's bending the rules for their own convenience. OK, not to the extreme of Dominic Cummings, but still not right!

We're not shielding and have been going out for walks where there's no one around. We haven't been in any shops.

Footywife · 25/05/2020 22:22

Seriously? Lighten up. Stop concentrating so much on 'the rules' and get this into perspective. They kept 2m apart, so virtually no risk. Its only the same as sitting near them in a public place like a park. You're blowing it completely out of proportion and creating an issue where there isn't one.

parietal · 25/05/2020 22:24

sitting 2m apart when outdoors is low risk. so if none of you are shielding or have any risk factors, then you should be fine.

inwood · 25/05/2020 22:24

I can't see any train why the garden is any different to the oark. We have rear access to our garden and I can see why I can have my mum over.

Dc can do at Downing Street...

fuckinghellthisshit · 25/05/2020 22:25

He was just following his instincts

Bleepbloopblarp · 25/05/2020 22:26

Use your common sense.

LovingLola · 25/05/2020 22:29

I think your dh did the right thing.
Being obsessive is not healthy
What age are your children ?

CurtainWitcher · 25/05/2020 22:31

DD is thirteen and DS is nearly sixteen

"Immoral"
Are you actually serious 🙄
I feel sorry for your poor Dh and kids

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/05/2020 22:49

I actually thought he seemed pretty sensible.
The guidance from the government of late has been unclear. Your DH had a few guests over, in the garden, maintaining social distancing. Your family aren't shielding, so what's the problem?

Lockdown will be fully over very soon so we need to weigh the risks ourselves (based on our own circumstances) and go from there.

Mustbethewine · 25/05/2020 22:52

I've had family and friends (one ot two at a time) in my garden, 2m apart. No one has entered my home. No hugs etc. I dont see the problem tbh.

Sugartitss · 25/05/2020 23:01

I’ve hugged people, had friends over, gone shopping, bought a sandwich in supermarket and eaten with the same hands that pushed the trolley without washing them.

Absolutely fine.
