People on universal credit - how much do you get a month?

Just been approved for UC for me and my DP and my new baby however baby isn’t registered on there yet due to his birth not being registered yet (been told to wait 21 days because offices have not been taking appointments). We got an advance of £1,244. But won’t find out how much we get a month for 5 weeks. I’m just wondering if anyone else is getting it and what sort of figure we can expect to get?

Me - self employed, ending maternity this week
Partner - works in a supermarket

Thank you and sorry for posting here wasn’t sure which topic to post in.

Jesus. I'm starting to wonder why I work full time...

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 25/05/2020 22:34

@PorpentiaScamander There are two levels of disability on UC however. LCW is the lower rate of £128.25 then LCWRA is for more severely disabled/considered disabled for either a long period of time or permanently and not expected to look for work, which is £341.92 (not sure why I rounded it up to £400 before!)

PorpentiaScamander · 25/05/2020 22:34

Well I have no idea what the form I filled in was for. New style ESA, or the other thing. Either way fingers crossed i get it. I'd say £400 is far from a measley amount. And if it means I'm not affected by the cap then I'll actually be closer to £700 better off.
TbH that would go a long way towards helping my anxiety if I don't have to worry about how tf I pay the bills!

Thehop · 25/05/2020 22:35

@Dougalthesyrianhamsterin what way is “all these people” offensive? “All these people shouting” “all those people on the beach” perfectly reasonable phrase.

Thehop · 25/05/2020 22:36

@BipolarSunset it’s a difficult pill to swallow

Babyroobs · 25/05/2020 22:37

Douglas - The £128.25 LCW element would only apply to people who started the claim before April 2017. There is nothing extra for being awarded LCW now. Just saying so that people don't get their hopes up that even if only awarded LCW they would get some extra money.

Viviennemary · 25/05/2020 22:37

It's quite a nice smount of money for doing nothing.

CoachBombay · 25/05/2020 22:38

BipolarSunset I do work full time...40+ hours and o get a UC top up. O don't understand your point?!

Babyroobs · 25/05/2020 22:42

There's a lot of jealous people commenting on here. The reason they don't get Uc is because they have higher paid jobs or a partners income coming in too. All I can think about when I see these amounts is to wonder how on earth the country affords it and what on earth will happen if/when millions more face redundancy and go onto Uc too ?

dodolally · 25/05/2020 22:44

@Babyroobs the country can't afford it...simple!!! not UC AND the nhs AND free school meals AND free education....something's gotta give!! Let's just wait and see shall we...

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 25/05/2020 22:45

@IAmReportingYouForBBQing Fancy driving a brand new car?? I pay the exact same as I would with any other lease for my car, but I can tell you I'd rather be able to fucking walk!!! Only severely disabled people are entitled to use Motability

Those amounts you have there are all incorrect by the way. Legacy benefits no longer apply either

It is not LOADS at alllll!

Do you have any idea of the added costs of being disabled?

I HAVE to use the car everywhere.. fuel is £40-50 a week
Gardener as I can't do it - £20 a week
Cleaner as I can't do it - £45 a week
Carer - £80 a week

You need help love. Being jealous of disabled people??? Hmm

As for single parents, my friend (a paramedic) had to leave her husband who suddenly became violent after 17 years of marriage and 4 kids. One still breastfeeding. It meant she had to leave her job. She had no childcare for night shifts and so had NO choice but to claim benefits. Her rent was £800 a month. They don't pay for more than 3 kids. £1500 a month minus £800 rent so £700 for 4 kids and an adult to clothe, but school uniform and eat?
Then they kept capping her. Every month more and more would be taken. She was at the food bank every couple weeks at one point.

You call that loads and loads? She was a quivering wreck and had gone from a happy family with a successful job as a Paramedic, to being a single mum on benefits and suddenly Shes classed as 'scum' by people like you....

No 'brand new car' for her.

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 25/05/2020 22:46

@Babyroobs Really? Wow I missed the memo on that one! Thanks

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 25/05/2020 22:46

@Viviennemary

Quit your job and go for it. You'll love it.

PatricksRum · 25/05/2020 22:47

There's literally no point in asking people what they get. It has no relevce to your claim.
Do a benefit check.

Babyroobs · 25/05/2020 22:50

Douglas. The cap would be about £1666 outside of London so she would get that, are you forgetting Child benefit for four kids, some of which would be capped.

blubellsarebells · 25/05/2020 22:50

Bipolar lots of people claiming uc do work full time.
As has already been stated.
I was probably costing the state more when i worked almost full time when my son was a baby in full time nursery than if I'd sat on my bum at home.
Wasn't all that much better off for working either but I like my job and would never not work as im able to.
Some people need top ups.

Innitogether · 25/05/2020 22:50

Bloody hell. There’s a chance I’ll be made redundant and having just done a benefits calculation on MSE website I’d get £755 a month. Half of that (£400) would go on rent and CT so I’d have £355 for utilities and bills, travel, pet costs and food. Wtf? And I’d be stung by bedroom tax. And there will be a massive bun fight for jobs. Fucking hell!

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 25/05/2020 22:51

@dodolally Let's just wait and see shall we...

And what exactly is that supposed to mean?!

The elderly and foreign aid cost this country hundreds of times more than the benefit bill!

Do you know how much it costs to fly a Eurofighter Typhoon? £48,000 per HOUR.

They fly daily. For several hours

Do you know how much it costs the MOD to keep military ships in Harbour?
One. Million. Pounds per DAY

You haven't a clue love!

Babyroobs · 25/05/2020 22:52

Innit - UC is pretty shocking for single people with no children.

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 25/05/2020 22:54

@Babyroobs This was a couple of years ago. It was £1,480 back then.
Child Benefit stops at 2 children by the way. You don't get the full £20.70 per week for the second either. It's like an extra £10 per week

Babyroobs · 25/05/2020 22:55

Child benefit does not stop at 2 children. I know because I get it for three. You still get it for children born after April 2017.

Babyroobs · 25/05/2020 22:56

Child element of UC or tax credits stops for more than two children if born after April 2017.

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 25/05/2020 22:57

.....

People on universal credit - how much do you get a month?
maxbabi · 25/05/2020 22:57

I'm a single parent to 2 kids, 1 is 20 so I get nothing for her. She was at college and working (as I was b4 cv). So no income for either of us atm.
I receive approx £600 pm and I have to pay my mortgage out of that. You cant live on it. I'm expected to pay all my Bill's etc incl council tax
Its unbelievably cruel

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 25/05/2020 22:58

@Babyroobs Incorrect. See screenshot from .gov website
