To not understand the outrage at Dominic Cummings?

Please don’t flame me for this. I’m not posting this to be controversial. I am someone who always tries to see the good in people which has been to my detriment at time’s in the past so I’m very well aware that maybe I’m missing something here and being too kind when he possibly doesn’t deserve it.

My understanding is that Dominic Cummings is saying that he only returned to Durham on one occasion which was because he had fears about potentially being unable to look after his child if him and his wife both ended up too unwell with Covid. I can understand the logic in that.

I appreciate the government advice at that stage was to stay home but if he genuinely didn’t have anyone to help with his son, then I can understand his fears and that he was trying to put his child first as any parent would.

My understanding is that a matter of days after, the government did clarify that travelling in the event of needing support with children if you had caught covid was an exceptional circumstance and that travel in that instance was acceptable.

I personally live hundreds of miles from family and don’t have anyone I could ask for help in the local area was I to become unwell with Covid so this does resonate with me.

I understand that there were sightings of Dominic Cummings on other dates in Durham which indicate that he travelled back up there. If this is true, I definitely agree that he needs to be sacked, but at this stage, there is no proof of this.

Am I missing something here?

It’s Matt Hancock.

Not Mike.

Strangerthantruth · 25/05/2020 16:58

Did people want to spend the "last moments" with highly infectious people? That seems irrational? And why is it relevant here?

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 16:58

@Strangerthantruth well it has to be one by one, because he had a go at all the photographers outside his house not keeping 2m apart Confused

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 16:58

Go Beth Rigby, she puts Laura K and Rob P to shame.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 17:00

Yes if my child is dying I want to be with them even if they are infections.

sleepingpup · 25/05/2020 17:00

Robert Peston
Advising scientists have had stated that they feel public health has been threatened by introducing the element of personal discretion.
( put in my words)

Nope DC doesn't say sorry.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 17:00

*infectious

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 17:01

Absolute bull that BJ didn’t know his chief SPAD has moved away 260 miles. Especially as BJ have a conference call when he was sick.

C8H10N4O2 · 25/05/2020 17:01

I don't think any of the advice given at conferences directly contradicted that, did it? It just wasn't mentioned

The messaging was pretty specific for people with symptoms - I don't recall any of the speakers (including the healt advisors ) saying don't go out "unless its difficult". The advice my neighbour was given when trying to check what was allowed in this situation was "you must stay at home, use this number to call for help if there is no friend or family to support you and keep in touch with your GP".

I had to make a similar call (caring issue related) and the advice was the same. People have been issued with fines in this scenario.

What I find fascinating is pretty much each journalist has offered him a face saving way to apologise even for poor example or risk to the health message and he can't bring himself to take that opportunity.

Fosler · 25/05/2020 17:02

It's ridiculous.

We are all responsible for our own choices. In his shoes I would have done the same. This is a witch hunt by the left wing media.

nokidshere · 25/05/2020 17:02

The questions are stupid. He's not going to say he was wrong, and equating him travelling between two houses to visiting a child with cancer is just ridiculous. And who the feck checks with their boss if they can do anything.

Repetitive crap. Total waste of time.

Strangerthantruth · 25/05/2020 17:02

It's just the bizzare nature of him sitting there with all this sanctimonious scolding in turn going on. He's brilliant. He's very patient with all the fuckwits I have to say. Poor old Preston, what a job having to shuffle about asking these daft questions for a living.

C8H10N4O2 · 25/05/2020 17:05

When your boss is the PM, a PM who doesn't fart without DC say so, you call your boss. I've had people call me to let me know they have had to relocate to care for relatives (not for CV so not required to isolate for symptoms) and I am not Boris.

Strangerthantruth · 25/05/2020 17:05

He really out classes the media muppets.

sleepingpup · 25/05/2020 17:06

What absolute shite.

Yes my best friend wanted to see her mother ( highly infectious) before she died.

You know where you can put your "irrational "

merrymouse · 25/05/2020 17:09

He has just told everyone that if you have children you don't have to follow the self isolation guidelines.

He is not brilliant. He is stuttering and incompetent.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 17:09

He really out classes the media muppets.

Oh yes, all the stammering and twitching is really outclassing behaviour 😂

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 17:13

merrymouse · 25/05/2020 17:13

with his 4 year old in the back of the car.

None of it makes sense.

Notmyrealname855 · 25/05/2020 17:13

That was sooo bad and cringey....

Him having his own little time in the rose garden seems to confirm he’s the leader? Mate none of us elected you... as far as we were concerned, it was Bojo in power. Obviously not.

If DC is so brilliant, then the only reason he’s not in a public role is because he’s a prize pig no one would vote for Biscuit
