Just that really, a high percentage of people are either working from home or getting paid 80% + of their wages to stay at home.

Those working from home have no commute anymore and having spent several weeks working from home it’s not as hard as being at office especially as have to make compensations for fact looking after 2 kids. Those on furlough are literally on holiday. Call me cynical but I wonder how many of those shouting loudest not to lift lockdown are just enjoying being at home?

I don’t want to offend anyone, I’m sure this doesn’t apply to everyone but I bet it does to a lot. So come on peeps be honest!

I’m happy to go back. Miss the office. Obviously don’t want to go back if it’s risking people’s lives but when we can, I will.

whatswithtodaytoday · 24/05/2020 23:07

I'm working from home with a toddler. It's... not fun.

Paperchainpopp · 24/05/2020 23:08

I agree and when furlough is up they will want to go back to work as there’s a good chance there job will be at risk by October.

Laiste · 24/05/2020 23:08

2 of my older DDs (21 and 23) are furloughed. Both are on 100% of their old wage. They are both genuinely and seriously looking forward to going back to work. They both enjoy their jobs.

sunflowery · 24/05/2020 23:09

I think you are probably right at the moment as the weather is lovely. If it turns and it’s suddenly pissing it down constantly and freezing I bet being cooped up with the whole family will seem less appealing!

PicsInRed · 24/05/2020 23:09

It would be nice if offices would allow flexibility around school hours. A mix of office and wfh. Maybe 5 hours a day in the office instead of 8 (we all know there are plenty of job which aren't 8 hours a day of active work every day of the month) and do any overflow work in the evening/morning before the office.

Probably won't happen though. 🤷‍♀️

OccasionalNachos · 24/05/2020 23:10

I want to work in my office. My home is my home, and I don’t always feel in the right head space for work. my house isn’t large enough for a dedicated office so I’m on the dining table. I hate it. Could also do with access to a printer that prints A1 size technical drawings, my home printer can’t do that.

Not having a commute is a small bonus, although I do waste the mornings watching breakfast news half the time.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 24/05/2020 23:11

Yep. Same as when I was on mat leave. Really didn't want to go back.

This is different though. EVERYTHING has stopped. It all feels so much calmer in my house at the moment. I am not looking forward to a return to the pointless drudgery

edwinbear · 24/05/2020 23:11

I miss the office and my colleagues, but I’m not missing getting up at 5.45am every weekday to commute into central London. I’m also really enjoying running for 30 mins each day. I have never run before and it will be impossible once I go back to the office so YANBU.

NotAnotherFeckingMuftiDay · 24/05/2020 23:11

I'm desperate to get back to work.
I miss my time to myself walking to work.
I miss getting on with work in peace without having to prod reluctant homeschooling children.
Most of all I miss the separation of work life from home life. I hate that the worries and stresses that usually stay at work and disappear on my walk home are now trapped in my home with me.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 24/05/2020 23:11

I'm working from home with a toddler. It's... not fun.

This plus three older siblings. And everything's taking so much longer because we can no longer chat to the neighbouring colleague for 5 mins, and lots of others are also home and struggling with childcare (or alone and struggling with motivation) and getting next to nothing done.

I'm not convinced we should all flood back into offices, but find myself unexpectedly nostalgic about my past hot-desking life...

ploopmoop · 24/05/2020 23:12

DH misses the office, has been told he will be wfh for at least another 3 months. Not his decision

Dumbie · 24/05/2020 23:12

I never have enjoyed working from home.
I can just about do my job from home, but I do it a lot better from the office - my job is best done around my colleagues.

Plus I miss the commute, it delineates between work and home.

maddy68 · 24/05/2020 23:12

I'm desperate to go back. I need normality , routine and company

Taciturn · 24/05/2020 23:13

There are many people working from home covering furloughed colleagues work and supervising DC with virtual school. Some people are working very long hours to fit everything in!!
The only people who don't seem to want lockdown lifted are the curtain twitchers and I think this is largely fear driven.

Donkeytail · 24/05/2020 23:13

I'm laughing at this. We have never worked harder than we are right now. Going back to normality will feel like a holiday in comparison. Both of our jobs are extremely busy right now, couple that with the fact that the kids are off school until September(in Ireland) our house just feels like chaos right now.

AnxiousElephant77 · 24/05/2020 23:14

I am furloughed on 100% pay and I can't wait to get back to work.

DefConOne · 24/05/2020 23:14

My job (NHS) isn’t making any ‘compensations’ for working from home with kids. It’s more difficult working on an overloaded network with no files to refer to or colleagues to discuss things with. I’m happy to go back anytime, although I’d like to be able to work from home sometimes going forward.

Bonkersblond · 24/05/2020 23:15

Am working from home full time, whilst I like a couple of days a week at home, I can’t wait to get back to the office, missing the social side, my desk set up, my commute is only 10 mins though by car, might feel differently if it was longer.

Dumbie · 24/05/2020 23:16

We have never worked harder than we are right now

This.

I will never complain again about managing a work/life balance

Crikey0000 · 24/05/2020 23:16

Some of us have never stopped. Perhaps all key workers should get a couple of weeks off at 80% pay when everyone else is back at work. We can go on about how bored we are and clap for the non essential workers.

Titsywoo · 24/05/2020 23:17

I'd like to go back. I like to keep work and home life seperate. Right now my house is a school, office for me and DH, store for our home business and apparently a home as well. It's not ideal. I want to come home at the end of the day and relax not see my work around me.

Nichelette · 24/05/2020 23:17

I'm missing the office too, but lucky I can wfh. Would love to be around my colleagues again.

IvinghoeBeacon · 24/05/2020 23:18

I enjoy my work though I am on maternity leave at the moment in fact. I was looking forward to going back when the time comes. However I read a document on how my workplace will be managing social distancing measures etc and fuck me it’s miserable, including hotlines for reporting transgressors... I’m not due back at work for a long time and of course I’ll obey the rules but it will be a weird environment

DaffodilsAreMyFav · 24/05/2020 23:19

I really miss going to work, in the office - the separateness of work and home. Currently have two daughters home schooling and me working from the dining room.
