How can anyone take this lockdown seriously anymore?

Our prime minister has just told the nation it’s fine to break the rules so long as you’re being a good parent.

They want us to break the rules.

They want us out there, they have gone back to herd immunity without telling us but we're all too scared / indoctrinated to go out so they've devised this whole incident (or at least decided to break the news on it now!). Its reverse psychological at a very basic level.

Musicforsmorks · 24/05/2020 22:24

I want that tee shirt.

ListeningQuietly · 24/05/2020 22:25

Time2
I do not agree with lockdown.
BUT
I also do not ever think its acceptable to drive the length of the country when ill to stay with pensioners
Covid or No Covid

and its that extreme arrogance that means Cummings should have no place in a UK government

Kinneddar · 24/05/2020 22:28

I certainly wont be breaking the rules just because he has. Just like I.dont commit crimes because other people do. I think a lot of people will use this as a reason to justify not following the rules but those of us who have been sensible following them and protecting our family will continue to do so.

PasserbyEffect · 24/05/2020 22:30

I did my own thing before (went into self-imposed lockdown one week before it was official, as the numbers already looked pretty bad), and I will keep doing my own thing (keep social distancing till the numbers look safe enough to relax my own personal safety rules... But also go out and about as circumstances require)

Seriously, why do you guys care so much about so-called "leaders", or what the rest of the "herd" may think? Can't you think for yourself?
The virus doesn't give a shit about whether Cummings or Ferguson are hypocrites. It's your life, and the life of your loved ones, that's on the line. Your choice...

VenusTiger · 24/05/2020 22:37

@ChicCroissant maybe that family said "no, you're not coming round here to infect us thanks, go and stay in the outbuilding at our parents' estate and self isolate"

Freddiefox · 24/05/2020 22:45

@ Crunchymum
@Time2change2

I do think this is all set up to get us outside, they are hoping that we have the attitude of what’s good for one of them is good for us. But where does that leave BJ though? He looks not just incompetent but almost incomprehensibly stupid, he was angry today at the press conference and you can almost see him foundering around for an answer.

Are we to believe he’s sacrificing his legacy, by showing support for this man with aiming to get us out, he’s not coming out smelling of roses. He certainly likes to be seen as the hero but he now just looks like one of the worst PMs of the time, which he won’t like.

Or
is he hoping that by the time a GE comes around we would have forgotten his lies and twists and vote for him anyway.

Or does he really not care or need the averages persons vote so it doesn’t really matter what happens.

Or is he more worried about how he will look of the economy tanks? Is that a worse than deaths for him.

trellishead · 24/05/2020 22:51

Oh my god.... Just read a couple of comments and cannot read any more. Anyway YANBU. Cummings has a lot of dirt on Boris.. And our government is very corrupt.
People... Read the papers not controlled by the tax dodging super elite and please educate yourselves on what is being done to you by the Tories who do not give a damn about you or your families.

VenusTiger · 24/05/2020 23:12

@trellishead Hmm okay - good grief!

Time2change2 · 25/05/2020 00:08

@Freddiefox could be any of those or a number of other reasons. My guess would be the economy. It’s all been agreed and carefully worked out and spun though that’s for sure.

StayinginSummer · 25/05/2020 16:25

I think that is harsh and unfair. I also went into lockdown early and I could clearly see the numbers in the Uk would be bad. At a time when many people, including MN, were throwing their hands up in horror saying you couldn’t possibly close schools, stop panicking people with your fear etc.

Everything I felt and thought has come true. I’m lucky as I’ve a statistics and health background.

However many people ARE looking for leadership. I think that is ok. Many of my family ignored me and looked to the government because they trusted them and are still trying to work together and be cooperative. They are not thick or sheep, they are just decent people trying to do the right thing and have not the scientific background to weigh up the risks etc or the time to do it.

These are the people who are not arrogant enough to just do what they want. That is the whole point and why I am so angry Boris is basically telling people todo what they want. And ignore his own scientists advice.

It’s appalling. But I have much more respect for my friends who are following the government as they are decent people trying to do the right thing. And not arrogant people like DC who does basically whatever he likes.

because leaders are supposed to lead? When the person who set the policy can't be bothered to keep it, or thinks it doesn't apply - what else are they doing that needs scrutiny?

As they say: the fish stinks from the head down.
