OH is going on about I’m spending too much and buying too many clothes for DS.

I have

X6 vests
X5 sleepsuits
X3 sleeping bags
X2 pajmamas
X2 jeans
X3 jumpers
X4 tracksuits
X9 t shirts
X1 coat
X2 trainers

I really don’t think that’s too much at all

How much do you buy?

The trainers are the stand out item, why have more than 1 pair, feet growing fast and it's better to have proper shoes not fashion wear. Until 2 mine had one pair shoes plus wellies, each lasted about 3 months before outgrown

AteAllTheAfterEights · 24/05/2020 07:53

To whoever asked, 10 pairs of pjs because I’m often very behind on washing Grin

Not much designer, he has some Ralph Lauren but it’s mostly from tk maxx. The rest is mostly jojo/Zara/next/boden

I definitely spent more on his sister than him, hers is mostly Zara and Mint Velvet.

I buy my 6 month old clothes 2nd hand on Facebook market. Big bundle of gap, next, h&m for about £25. I do the same with toys

I buy my eldest about £150 a year, that includes school shoes, trainers, shirts etc. Usually buy in Tesco which keeps the cost down, dc2 gets mainly hand me downs but new shoes.

I agree with your husband, that is a lot of clothes for a 1 year old, he will grow out of them quickly!

I keep a very detailed household budget, and I know it's between £5,000 and £7,000 per year for DD, now 11

I dont think I spent that much on clothes for myself all my life Shock

I probably spend about £350-£400 a year. I buy most clothes in the sale for the next size up from Boden, Fatface and Next, and I buy loads second hand. This also includes, coats, uniform and shoes. Ds has:
2 winter coats, 1 of which needs donating as he has outgrown.
2 summer coats
7 t-shirts
5 long sleeve tops
5 jumpers
2 cardigans
2 hoodies
3 pairs of jeans
3 pairs of tracksuit bottoms
3 pairs of shorts
7 pairs of pjs
Plus loads of socks and pants.
He also has 1 pair of trainers
1 pair of wellies
1 pair of boots
1 pair of flip flops and 1 pair of crocs.

I could easily buy more as there are so many lovely children's clothes out there but It would be wasteful as they wouldn't get worn.

Far too much when he was younger, perhaps £100 in every size up to a year. He’s almost 3 but still in 1.5-2 years so just got a wardrobe full of 2-3 years and spent about £250 in total, that was 3 tops, shorts and jeans from river island, a multipack of tops from next then a few from H&M, he has 5 pairs of jeans, 4 pairs of shorts, 2 pairs of trainers, 2 canvas shoes and 2 sandals, 2 hoodies, a thick coat and a denim jacket and maybe 6 pairs of pyjamas? Then 30 pairs of pants for potty training

But I get a really good student discount on most of these so should be well over £300. I recoup the money by selling his clothes in bundles on eBay, don’t make much but a few quid for his savings

It's like everything, you cut your cloth. You buy what you can afford.

I don't think it sounds like a huge amount although a 1 year old probably does not need 2 pairs of shoes, or 9 tee shirts.

Perhaps if you are spending a bit more than your DH thinks is affordable, you could get some cheap second hand bundles?

tinyhouseliving · 24/05/2020 12:49

I also get two summers out of most summer clothes to be honest. Shorts only get a in horse shorter, dresses an be worn with 3/4 length leggings etc.
