To think Dunelm Mill are MASSIVE CF’s?

I won’t go into my own issues with my recent orders from dunelm but personally I suspect they’re using lockdown as an excuse to send out faulty/damaged larger items (can’t be returned in store) whilst their customer service is uncontactable.

However, today I found this.
These are THE SAME mirror. One for sale on The Range and one at Dunelm Mill for £150 more! I used to love DM but was getting a bit fed up of their plummeting quality - this takes the biscuit and it’s not the only item they’ve done this on.

Like I said, I had an item I’ve now realised they ripped off from The Range

It’s highly unlikely Dunelm are ripping The Range off. It’s normally the other way around - the cheaper retailer ripping off the more expensive one. They might both be ripping off Cox & Cox or whoever. Things filter down.

I don’t know the retail model but lots of items will just be bought in by the buying team and are inspired by trends.

ChicCroissant · 22/05/2020 16:01

So you've not actually compared the items IRL just via the web?

Sweetiepye · 22/05/2020 16:02

I bought an item online at Dunelm, to be collected instore. It cost £95. My husband collected it for me. When he brought it home it was clearly priced at £85. I emailed the company to complain that it was £10 cheaper than I had paid, to which the response was “The stores do have there own sales which are different to online sales.” I pointed out that I paid for a £95 item, but had received an £85 item. Therefore, if their instore sales were different to their online sales, was this one a cheaper model than the one I had paid for. I was told no, it was the same.
They said if I wanted the cheaper price, I had to take it back to the shop, to get a refund and then re-buy it. However there was now none in stock at my local store, my having bought the last one. The one I took back would go back into stock at £95, as that was the price it had been sold at, so I wouldn’t be able to buy it at the cheaper price anyway. Confused

I’ve become really disappointed in dunelm recently too. I got a curtain pole and curtains for the living room for about £250 and the quality is shocking, ones I got for the bedroom from next for half the price are thicker and much nicer quality and their curtain pole was the most unnecessarily complicated thing I have ever put up. I don’t mind paying more for better quality but I feel ripped off every time now.

LuluJakey1 · 22/05/2020 16:17

I've never been to Dunelm Mill. That mirror reminds me of The Arched Window in Play School

wishihadagoodone · 22/05/2020 16:36

I had a poor customer experience with Dunelm.

I'd bought two pictures in store and wanted the third to complete the set but they wouldn't sell me the display one. Fair enough, I'll order it online, I thought.

Ordered it and paid for it plus delivery.
Waited.....waited.....waited.....
Nothing shows up.
Try and contact them, keep getting sent to a chat bot.
Eventually get a reply from them to say sorry, your item was damaged during transit and couldn't be delivered. So they refunded me the money for the item.

CF's still charged me for delivery though!! For an item I never bloody received!!

I was proper fuming😂

I think I was so cross because I used to work in customer services for a large supermarket and if someone had a faulty item delivered and returned it to store, we always refunded the delivery too!!

PinkiOcelot · 22/05/2020 16:38

Wow, that’s quite a price difference.

TeaAddict235 · 22/05/2020 16:42

I quite like Dunelm, had some very robust wool rugs from them. 6 years on, three boys, rugged pets and a gazillion guests, and both rugs are still presentable.

Also got a wide range of Roald Dahl tablecloths. Get the Twits, it gives the kids and guests the tickles.

Don't knock em.

Shout out to the one in wycombe! Nice staff and good selection.

UncleFoster · 22/05/2020 16:51

If youve had a bad customer service experience why not just post about your bad customer service experience. Rather than this roundabout crap

If you go to primark you will knock offs of loads of high end brands. It doesnt mean they are the same. I really dont understand why you dont get this.

Some people might prefer a chanel bag and so will pay 3000 for it, some people will think thats ridiculous and buy the 10 primark knock off, some people will buy the 100 cambridge satchel. If you think somethings overpriced just dont buy it.

vanillandhoney · 22/05/2020 17:04

In my experience Dunelm have always been poor quality, and they're expensive too.

We got a bathroom cabinet from them and the paint started chipping off within a week. Bed linen was expensive (though we bought in the sale) and it ripped. On the other hand the £15 bedside tables we got from Home Bargains have been going strong for two years now.

It might just have been bad luck but I've never shopped there again. I think they're trying to be something they're not.

Ninkanink · 22/05/2020 18:08

They’re like any other lower end high street retailer - you can find the odd gem but there’s also a lot of tat.

We’ve got one cabinet which was well worth the price, acceptable quality and will last years. We’ve bought linen bedding there which is great quality and still going strong a couple of years later, a couple of cushions which are great quality and also still going strong, and a couple of cheap fabric storage benches/ottomans which were just what we were looking for as a stop gap measure. But there’s always much more that we wouldn’t buy, than good quality, value for money items. We always go into store and actually check out the things we want to buy as you cannot determine quality or value for money online.

Ronnie27 · 22/05/2020 18:10

I love a wander around Dunelm but have had a couple of nightmares of seeing online and also find them expensive for the quality, particularly furniture.

sideorderofchips · 22/05/2020 18:12

Nooooo I love dunelm

longearedbat · 22/05/2020 19:04

I love Dunelm (and it hasn't been Dunelm Mill for years). I can have a browse, have a coffee and have a pee (in normal times). It is one of the few places that still has a haberdashery dept. I have bought quite a lot of stuff online from them recently without problems.
Mind you, I also like the Range and Wilko. The Range is brilliant for craft stuff (better than hobbycraft). I think my pleasures in life are fairly simple and I am easily seduced by colourful displays and geegaws!

Ninkanink · 22/05/2020 19:39

It all depends on what you’re looking for - certain things are lovely and good value for what you pay. Other things, not so much. But that’s the same pretty much anywhere, IMO.

user1457178042 · 22/05/2020 20:22

I don't know why, but I fucking cannot STAND to be inside Dunelm Mill for longer than about 5 minutes, even looking at the website makes me want to jump out of my own window.

lifestooshort123 · 22/05/2020 21:25

Ordered 2 large photo frames from Dunelm online. When they arrived they weren't bubble wrapped or anything, just cellophane round each one, and they were rattling round in a larger box and both frames had lost corners. Will go in and change when we're allowed to do exchanges. Point of this though is that I'm not able to leave a negative review - twice I've had an email saying my review falls foul of some rule. They've both been politely worded and the only change I made in the 2nd futile attempt was to say the frames had cracked because they were poor quality rather than badly packaged (tbh they were both). Grrrr.

Bleepbloopblarp · 22/05/2020 21:28

I used to like Dunelm about 10 years ago but the last time I looked I thought everything was really dated and overpriced. The stores are pretty grim and badly set out. The cafe does do a nice coffee and toastie though I seem to remember!

I much prefer the range and I think the quality is about the same.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 23/05/2020 06:36

Sitting here chuckling at idea of someone stealing designs from The Range (and I like The Range). 😂

Fairyliz · 23/05/2020 07:29

It’s not just Dunelm though is it all retailers are rubbish at the moment. Ordered something as a birthday present from QVC 30 days ago and it’s not arrived. They are not answering emails or replying on Twitter and tried to ring about 10 times but kept on hold for 30 minutes a time.
Not really sure what to do I assume I have lost my money so I won’t be using them again.

Unhomme · 23/05/2020 08:19

You're BU purely for calling it Dunelm Mill.

m00rfarm · 23/05/2020 08:47

I love the dunelm chenille curtains - they are amazing - arrive to me in Portugal squashed into small suitcases, and look perfect the second I hang them up. Everyone loves them. I cannot get anything like that here which hangs so well.
