To think Dunelm Mill are MASSIVE CF’s?

I won’t go into my own issues with my recent orders from dunelm but personally I suspect they’re using lockdown as an excuse to send out faulty/damaged larger items (can’t be returned in store) whilst their customer service is uncontactable.

However, today I found this.
These are THE SAME mirror. One for sale on The Range and one at Dunelm Mill for £150 more! I used to love DM but was getting a bit fed up of their plummeting quality - this takes the biscuit and it’s not the only item they’ve done this on.

I still have several throws that I bought from Dunelm before I moved abroad....16 years ago.
Also one that my Mum gave me that she bought from there about 10 years ago.

Still in good condition despite continued use and washing.

Neither of us would have paid a lot for them (we like a bargain).

SebandAlice · 22/05/2020 14:11

It just infuriates me that they’d deliver a faulty not fit for purpose item (which they knew was terrible quality as ripped off from The Range) to a loyal customer who has used them for years

You are being ridiculous. It is not ripped off from the Range though? You got a faulty item. It happens in every single store in the world from time to time. The warehouse operative who picked your order doesn’t look at your name and notice that you are a loyal customer. They wouldn’t send out a faulty item on purpose just because of lockdown.

I saw Primark was selling earrings that looked identical to my Isabel Marant ones. By your rational Isabel Marant ripped off Primark when it is always the cheaper brand copying the more expensive one.

Bertucci · 22/05/2020 14:13

But you’d expect for a garden mirror to be a good bit more expensive?

Onone · 22/05/2020 14:15

Well always price check between the too but generally dunelm are better quality

scarbados · 22/05/2020 14:15

If you don't like Dunelm, you're free to shop elsewhere.

Jammydodger1981 · 22/05/2020 14:15

I’ve had a few items delivered damaged from Dunelm too OP, I’m not shopping with them till I can go into store (on the vulnerable list at the moment).

Sonders · 22/05/2020 14:17

There seems to be an awful lot of vitriol aimed at a business. A business has no thoughts or feelings, and literally couldn't give a fluff. The negative effects of the rage felt towards Dunelm, are the felt by the person holding that rage.

It just all seems a bit daft when you don't know for certain that it's the same mirror, or that Dunelm did anything wrong. Even if they are the same, maybe they purchased the mirrors at a higher wholesale price, and then the same distributor sold them to The Range for a lot less. Doesn't make them cheeky 🤷🏼‍♀️

STAYTHEFUCKHOME · 22/05/2020 14:21

Based on all the shit you’ve put here - no, they aren’t. YABU.

Hingeandbracket · 22/05/2020 14:36

YABVU stop shopping there if you don't like it - it's not fucking compulsory.

Ninkanink · 22/05/2020 14:40

It’s not a ‘ripped off’ item. Do you really think all shops design all their own stock and own the rights to them? Of course not. They buy in from various suppliers and will often stock very similar products or in some cases exactly the same items but with different names.

Fruitytootie · 22/05/2020 14:43

I'm normally pleased with Dunelm tbh. Some items are good value but I agree that others are not.

Earlier this week I ordered a rug, paid for it. Only to receive an email to say it was out of stock and I'd have to wait up to five days for a refund!

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 22/05/2020 14:44

Just shop around and order what you want, prices always vary between products, there is always some fool that will pay a higher price. YABU

JinglingHellsBells · 22/05/2020 14:45

companies can charge what they want. It's not being cheeky it's doing business. Some people will buy them.

Ninkanink · 22/05/2020 14:46

And if you don’t want to shop there, don’t like the quality and aren’t keen to pay their prices, there’s a very easy way to fix that.

Anyone with any sense who wants to save money or get the best value for what they’re paying, knows perfectly well to shop around, compare carefully between retailers and buy based on actual quality/price rather than just assuming that more expensive means better quality and/or higher perceived status of brand implies automatically better quality. That’s not how it works.

And on faulty/damaged items, it happens from time to time. No big deal. You return it and wait for a replacement, or go elsewhere.

Nottherealslimshady · 22/05/2020 14:46

I always thought the range tend to sell the 'seconds' or end of production stuff. Or even cheap knockoffs.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 22/05/2020 14:48

I shop at both places. Dunelm Mill products are, in my view, consistently much better quality than similar items from The Range. The prices reflect this. DM also has much more reliable stock levels.

I don't know about your damaged items. I hope you manage to get it sorted.

I got four very similar blankets several years ago - two from the range and two from DMs. Within a year the two from the range had worn out in places. I still have the DM ones and they are still in almost perfect condition. They were 3 times more expensive but worth the expense.

userxx · 22/05/2020 14:50

They're like Wilko. I love Wilko.

I spent a good 40 minutes just mooching around in there yesterday. Love it.

Tara336 · 22/05/2020 14:52

@Fruitytootie they did that to me with a pair of curtains, I did speak to customer services who were really helpful the refund came through a lot quicker than 5 days so hopefully you’ll get your refund through quickly.

bookmum08 · 22/05/2020 15:08

No retailers at the moment are running a normal level of customer service. They can't help it. They are very limited in what they can do. How much of a priority was ordering a fancy mirror? There are several things I would like to buy at the moment. I could buy online - and some items I have. But none have really been something I couldn't of waited for.
I am going to try and buy some clothes tomorrow from a supermarket. I hate clothes shopping. I wear clothes until they literally fall apart. I am now down to one pair of jeans, two loungewear style trousers and 2 tops that don't have holes in. I will have to take a risk in buying because I won't be able to try anything on. Am I going to making a fuss about this and refusing to ever shop at those supermarkets again. No. I am accepting these are unusual times for retail.

Flamingofolie · 22/05/2020 15:17

Interesting, theyve sent me out a broken item but I cant return it a) because the store isnt open and b) because I'm shielding.

lilgreen · 22/05/2020 15:17

Dunelm are not high end.

slashlover · 22/05/2020 15:29

I can buy a Pot Noodle in Tesco for £1 while they are 50p each in Poundland. Twice the price so are Tesco then CFs?

Fairnair · 22/05/2020 15:43

Flamingofolie, You should be able to request a return, & arrange for collection of the damaged item. Unfortunately a garden pot I ordered from Dunelm was damaged. Contacted them through the returns page, filled in a very short form, got a return label to print out, and item was collected the same day.

Fairnair · 22/05/2020 15:44

Sorry meant to say collected next day.

Alsohuman · 22/05/2020 15:56

Dunelm stores are now open. I’ve just ordered two planters for collection tomorrow.
