To ask why I’m not loosing weight with all the excercise I’m doing?!

Endorphins · 22/05/2020 10:08

So I excercise 6 days per week and eat healthy 5 days per week!

I do 3 days of weight and strength training
2 days of running, generally about 7k each time
1 day of yoga for 60 minutes

I track via MFP and generally have about between 1300 and 1500 cals per day

On the weekend I relax the cal counting but don’t binge

I am still breast feeding my 2 year old and she feeds multiple times per day and throughout the night

I weigh 9 and a half stone

@Vanhi - That's what I meant. I expressed it poorly. Muscle is heavier by volume, not inherently 'heavier'.

SerenDippitty · 22/05/2020 15:33

*Does a kg of feathers weigh the same as a kg of rocks?

Fucking 'muscle weighs more than fat' give your head a wobble.*

Muscle does weigh more by volume.

If you take two containers of identical volume and fill one with rocks and the other with feathers the one containing sand will be heavier. So it is with two bodies of the same dimensions, one muscular and one not. The muscular one will be heavier.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/05/2020 15:34

You are allowed to choose and there is nothing wrong with just liking being slimmer and it being as simple as that. Maybe that's how the OP feels?

Apparently not @mistermagpie Our right to choose seems to be outvoiced by the Mumsnet Massive (no pun intended, although I'm gonna take the credit) who all seem to think that they know better.

I like being in good shape too Blush

SerenDippitty · 22/05/2020 15:34

sorry sand should be feathers.

SerenDippitty · 22/05/2020 15:35

and heavier should be lighter.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/05/2020 15:36

No necessarily. I'm more muscular, but lighter, than other women of similar proportion.

beesthatbuzz · 22/05/2020 15:39

Folk can be as slim as they want as long as long as they're not making themselves miserable in the process.

Find a healthy diet that suits you, find an exercise that you enjoy and crack on. It needs to be sustainable. Personally I think inputting everything you eat into an app isn't sustainable and encourages a binge/starve mentality.

PhoneLock · 22/05/2020 15:40

Same here, although perhaps not quite as muscular.

Beingslightlymad · 22/05/2020 15:43

Well that does not sound heavy to me.
But some women hold onto weight whilst breast feeding. It’s a fallacy that it helps weight loss in every person.

beesthatbuzz · 22/05/2020 15:45

I also think apple shaped people tend to be lighter than pear shaped. Due to fat distribution I guess. So someone on the lower end of the BMI scale who is apple shaped may well have a bit of a tummy and need to lose some fat.

Fat around the middle is unhealthier than weight in the thighs/bum.

You've answered your own question:

Q: To ask why I’m not loosing weight with all the excercise I’m doing?!

A: I think I need to stop eating my exercise cals, and see if that helps

Yep. Because if you eat back your exercise calories (that are hugely overestimated) then you really aren’t eating 1500 cals at all.

Lougle · 22/05/2020 16:05

It's definitely partly body shape. Before I had my children I was about 53kg and I'm 5'8. Now, 15 years later, I'm 66kg. So I'm a healthy BMI but because I've got very small boobs, all the weight goes straight to my tummy. I don't need to 'lose weight' but I could do without my spare tyre!

Lobsterquadrille2 · 22/05/2020 16:17

@mistermagpie completely agree with you and I might have done on another thread a while ago. I'm 5 foot 8 and currently 9 stone 5, having put on about 10lbs around my 50th birthday last year. It doesn't feel like "me" and, more importantly, some of my clothes don't fit properly. I'm extremely wary of commenting on any threads like this because I've read the "stealth boast" accusations as well as the "thanks, so you're saying I'm huge" comments so I lurk instead, and file away useful information 😀.

Eckhart · 22/05/2020 16:20

BMI is misleading because it only works for the average person. Does anybody know that person? I've never met one.

As per what Lougle just said, it can indicate that you don't need to lose weight, despite the fact that you know from looking at yourself where extra fat is being stored on your body.

Also, anything that needs so much calculation for a result that is not mathematical (like 'I want to look slim and toned, and not be making a beeline for heart failure ordiabetes') is unnecessary.

A better calculation is 'Am I slimmer and more toned than I was this time last month?', and if not, alter behaviours accordingly.

CSIblonde · 22/05/2020 16:31

I know I'm tall, but at 9.5 stone I looked unhealthy. Are you sure you need to lose weight?

PhoneLock · 22/05/2020 16:32

I know I'm tall, but at 9.5 stone I looked unhealthy

Perhaps you were ill.

PhoneLock · 22/05/2020 16:41

What MN wants women with a sub 20 BMI to look like.

Fortunately, the reality is rather different.

To ask why I’m not loosing weight with all the excercise I’m doing?!

@Lobsterquadrille2 Don't lurk. Ignore the 'stealth boast' accusations; you're entitled to your say and I would like to hear you Blush

I' m not gonna give the stealth boast accusers a chance. I'm in damn fine shape for a post menopausal (I think) 53 year old woman. Nothing 'stealthy' about it Grin

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/05/2020 16:44

@PhoneLock Grin

What one actually looks like — before the bodybuilding training started!

PhoneLock · 22/05/2020 16:48

What one actually looks like

And this is BMI 18.5

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/05/2020 16:50

Looking fab at 18.5 Smile

Eckhart · 22/05/2020 16:52

Accusing people of stealth boasting is really unhelpful, especially on this topic. How is anybody supposed to get any advice that works unless the people who know how to do it are allowed to comment?

mistermagpie · 22/05/2020 17:09

I also think you get a lot of posters on this kind of thread saying they looked 'gaunt' and 'ill' at a perfectly healthy weight for their height. On another thread people were saying they looked like they had an eating disorder at 10 stone and 5'7"...

When I read that, rightly or wrongly, I just assume that they are trying to justify their weight gain.

Endorphins · 22/05/2020 17:16

I’m not stealth boasting at all, I’m unhappy with my shape!

WRT my excercise I see a PT 3 times a week who guides me with the weights and strength training. I have been seeing her for a year. I have also been running for about a year.

WRT eating my excercise calories, I included that when i said I eat between 1300-1500 a day, so not on top of the 1300.

Really interesting about the breast feeding, and I guess it makes sense that my body may be holding onto it!

Pre kids I was 8 stone, so to be a stone and a half heavier is a big difference to what I prefer to look like. I’m mid 40’s with 4 children so obviously I’m not going to be 8 stone again, but I would like to get down to 9stone as I feel I will look better at that weight.

I do measurements etc, and as I have excess skin on my stomach it rarely goes down at all. Legs, arms, hips etc remain pretty static
