My main strategy for getting through lockdown is pretending it's the latter part of 2008 as this was a time that was very difficult and bleak for me but the following years my life improved beyond all recognition. I download music from 2008, even read all the mumsnet Chat threads from 2008!! I know I'm a random sentimental old fool but it's helping to give me hope at this difficult time!
So, in a world where we are all 12 years younger, hope you all have a great day!!

MysweetAudrina - so glad life has improved for you - your 2008 life sounded exhausting! I don't want to go back to normal either!

I think that was the day I handed in my PhD thesis. Crack open the champagne 🥂

ElectricTonight · 22/05/2020 09:47

I'm 14, and sitting in isolation for forgetting my PE kit.

LittleAtlas · 22/05/2020 09:48

I'm 17, living with my parents, doing my A levels working towards uni next year where I would meet my now husband. Also this month we went on a family holiday to the Dominican republic so I'll just spend today reminiscing sitting on the beach...

Settle59 · 22/05/2020 09:48

By the way - No.1 this week is 'Your Sex is on Fire' by Kings of Leon Grin

Lady Gaga hasn't come on the scene yet.

Katy Perry has only just come on the scene with her song 'I kissed a girl'

Teacher12345 - I was last ID'd for alcohol in 2012 - so better bring that fake ID just in case!

I’ve just sat my standard grades!

StCharlotte · 22/05/2020 09:52

I was running a village shop and B&B. It was 24/7 and I felt even more trapped then than I do now. So I'll pass thanks.

Elvesdontdomagic · 22/05/2020 09:53

I'm 28 with a gorgeous 4 year old only child. It's bliss! I have no idea what living with a disabled child is like or having more than one and I'm not a full time carer. I still go clubbing and have a new boyfriend. I don't think I've got facebook yet and have never heard of mumsnet. Weird how I'm here! My sister is still alive! I'm going to call her :)

Dollywilde · 22/05/2020 09:55

Just started second year of uni, I’m going out a LOT. Will someone please tell me to knuckle down and do my work?!

My boyfriend’s just about to dump me and I’m going to spiral into a mental health crisis which isn’t going to be terribly fun - hopefully I can retain a bit of the benefit of my advanced years now to tell myself it’ll all work out in the end.

Oh also, I think I’m fat, but god I look AMAZING. Grin

22Giraffes · 22/05/2020 09:57

I'm 21 and 7 months pregnant with my first child, exciting! Just gone on maternity leave so feet up and stuffing my face Grin

Happy birthday to all those celebrating, and Flowers for all those having a tough time.

beebeeduck · 22/05/2020 09:57

Crispyturtle · 22/05/2020 09:59

I’m 28, just moved to a new city & met now-DH. Having lots of hot sex Grin

Twelve years on we’re in a different city, different jobs, house & 2 kids. Not a lot of hot sex these days but we’re happy.

bridgetreilly - sorry to hear about your depression back then and so good things are better now for you. Thing is I was also very down at the time as I never thought I'd work again in October 2008 (long story). Of course my fears there were thankfully unfounded. However, because life improved greatly during the course of 2009 and my life was FANTASTIC a few months into 2010, I know look at the latter part of 2008 with rose tinted glasses even though admittedly it wasn't actually that great on paper for several reasons - I was lonely and frequently crying although I didn't have diagnosed depression.

@Teacher12345

ohh to be 18 again, actually I would be happy to be your current age!!!

Settle59 · 22/05/2020 10:10

People's lives are so different! I was living home with my Dad after several years of living away - at lunchtime I'd be going to an aerobics class and in the evening I'd be going to a GCSE Maths class. I wouldn't be working until January 2009. If I'd have known that - I'd have enjoyed the freedom of being at home for a few months. At the time I had PLENTY of savings - a lot of money in the bank following a house sale which is different from now. I didn't have home internet - so in October 2008 I'd not yet watched youtube - as I was only able to access the internet on an inferior non smart phone - so - while I could read comments underneath youtube videos I couldn't actually watch the videos themselves. Back then most people would still likely have had analogue TVs so only 5 channels!! I certainly didn't have a facebook account so could only access the internet on public libraries!!
By the way - the first youtube video I attempted to watch was Lady Gaga - 'Just Dance'

I'm 23, 6 months in to a relationship with a new man (now my husband of 9 years!) and life is good. I am about to move into his parents house with him, where we stayed for 18 months until we moved into our first place. My sister has just had her second child, a son, and he is gorgeous!!
My lovely mum is still alive, and we are in ignorant bliss that in four years time we will be being told her breast cancer is back, and spread into lots of places, and within 3 years she will no long be with us. Nicer times all round, id give my arm to go back to 2008 and make life with my mum count before it was too late xx

DottyWott · 22/05/2020 10:56

It’s my birthday!!

zen1 · 22/05/2020 10:58

I’m 8 months pregnant and have 2 under fives. Can’t we go back to 1998 instead?

Devlesko · 22/05/2020 11:01

I was 40 and within that year 2007 and 2008 I lost both my parents.
I think about them often, maybe not everyday day now.
A time my life changed though, so bittersweet year for me.
