I have no idea about the level, but some of the questions make no sense whatsoever (and I studied maths as a significant part of my degree!)

Disquieted1 · 21/05/2020 00:01

Dunno about years. I'd say about age 10.
Maybe they're questions from the old eleven plus! If you're under 30, ask your parents Smile

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 21/05/2020 00:02

620 as a percentage?
CD-ROMS?
35 as a decimal?

WTF?

JamieLeeCurtains · 21/05/2020 00:02

Many of those 'questions' are garbage.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 21/05/2020 00:02

And why does it say weird things like “write down the answer to”. Isn’t that a bit unnecessary?

Pinkflipflop85 · 21/05/2020 00:02

Maybe it was meant to be 23/4 ?

AlwaysTimeForWine · 21/05/2020 00:03

I also agree that some don't make sense at all and would baffle an adult!

spaghettios · 21/05/2020 00:03

Year 5ish but some of the questions are weird and make no sense Confused

Ijustdontcare · 21/05/2020 00:06

The 620 as a percentage isn't that difficult its 62000%

Howmanysleepsnow · 21/05/2020 00:06

If written more clearly, y5. As it is, y6 or y7

GreenTulips · 21/05/2020 00:08

Year 4

Disquieted1 · 21/05/2020 00:09

I guess 620 should read 6/20 or 30%

Kinkybutkind · 21/05/2020 00:10

Agree. Looks like my DC’s year four tests.

LaraLoui · 21/05/2020 00:11

Yeat 5

Samtsirch · 21/05/2020 00:18

Are you a trainee teacher ?
Or a confused parent ?
😊

Wildlingyoumakemyheartsing · 21/05/2020 00:20

I teach Y4. It's a Y6 test because it has a mixture of the Ks2 curriculum. The inclusion of percentages means it must be higher than Y4 as its not on our NC. At a push higher Y5 but probably SATS as 70% of most SATs test is from Y3, 4 and 5 and it's a jumble of skills.

Lou898 · 21/05/2020 00:24

Bright year 5 or Year 6.

DarkenedTimes · 21/05/2020 00:25

35 as a decimal is 35.0, easy. 234 as a mixed number could be, e.g. 233 4/4. Percentages and square numbers do mark it as high KS2 at least.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 21/05/2020 00:27

My bright year 3 could do some of them but not all so I would guess yr 4 for most of it but with some extension q/ q from older years?

serenada · 21/05/2020 00:32

Sorry for delay in reply and also I copied and pasted from a pdf so perhaps some sentences are incomplete. I have not included all of teh questions (some were on calculating area) but they were around the same level of complexity as these.

I found this online. It has been supplied by a UK grammar school and is the maths entry test for those entering 6th form from outside. So, age 16.

I am stunned. We cover so much of this at primary. The rest of teh paper (and the English paper is no different) is just a continuation at this level.

I don't get it - I thought grammar school tests on entry at 11 would be much toughre but to do this at 16?

Year 4

Twofurrycatsagain · 21/05/2020 00:40

It looks like a y6 sats test (at least what they looked like the last time I taught pre 2010). Designed to cover levels 3,4 and 5 so a mix of questions.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 21/05/2020 00:47

Why would you do a maths test if you’re entering a school at 6th form? Wouldn’t you either be doing A level maths or science or STEM stuff in which case your maths would be way above this level, or arts subjects where maths not relevant?

Sh05 · 21/05/2020 00:48

Yr4 higher ability or yr 5/6. Definitely primary. That's way too easy for 16 yr olds

serenada · 21/05/2020 00:48

Well to me it is primary level - I am surprised its pitched at secondary.

I could understand if they put questions in there to test whether the basics have been covered but then you would expect them to get harder, which they didn't.

Same for the English paper - I would pitch that at Yr 9, tops.
