Is your primary school opening - poll

Greysparkles · 20/05/2020 19:17

Received a detailed email today from our primary school on how the return will work on June 1st

They propose to have all students from R, year 1 and year 6 (who wish to go) full time Monday - Friday with staggered drop off/pick ups.

Another primary half a mile away isn't opening at all.

I'm curious to see how many schools are opening and how many are not.

So YABU - school closed
YANBU - school open

I’m not sure a pill would be very accurate. I’m not voting as I don’t think an email of plans is the same as actually opening. You can only count definite no vs intention to, I think.

Greysparkles · 20/05/2020 19:22

Well obviously ultimately its up to the government, but schools wouldn't make all such detailed plans to open if they weren't intending to surely?

Ours are only expanding children included within key worker/vulnerable. Theybarent welcoming back and year groups as a whole

WiltedDaffs · 20/05/2020 19:25

Not voted, school opening but not full time. Each child in YR, Y1 and Y6 offered two days a week so they can have some in at the beginning of the week, some in at the end with a deep clean on Wednesdays.

MrsG010814 · 20/05/2020 19:26

No, ours isn't.

onemouseplace · 20/05/2020 19:26

I don't actually know yet. We got an initial email saying they were looking into it and then a survey of the relevant years to see how many might be going back, but it's been radio silence since then.

HandfulOfFlowers · 20/05/2020 19:27

Ours is opening full time on 1st June to R, Yr1 and Yr6. 90% of parents have signalled their wish and intention to send their children in.

Ellisandra · 20/05/2020 19:28

@Greysparkles they might make detailed plans full well knowing they have no intention of implementing until much later.

Blastandbollocks · 20/05/2020 19:29

DS's school is taking 6 & 1, maybe reception.

Our school is starting with 1, then reception - and then with the key worker children we can't fit any more in.

It's a blooming farce.

milkysmum · 20/05/2020 19:32

Ours has sent an email yesterday to say we get an email Friday detailing the plans.
Mine are in anyway at present as in a keyworker ( school is only open Monday- Friday though) and from what I've seen and from what the children have told me they are planning to have year 6 in the hall and R, and Y 1 in the other class rooms.

zoemum2006 · 20/05/2020 19:34

DD's head emailed today to say they weren't opening on June 1 but would hope to as soon as they could.

It was a bit blaming of the teaching unions which I thought was harsh given that it's the government's failure to test & trace that's the problem.

BendingSpoons · 20/05/2020 19:34

DDs infant school have said they will be taking nursery and Reception. They said on Monday that plans with details will be sent later this week. Will wait and see if it actually happens.

IncrediblySadToo · 20/05/2020 19:35

Local Primary is opening for 60 kids . Approx 20 for each year group (Out of 150 kids) priority key worker/SEN/vulnerable/ desperate parents both working -if any spaces are left over.

Greysparkles · 20/05/2020 19:35

The impression I got form talking to the SENCO today was that they were definately going to be opening. They were very keen for me to send my DS in as they know how much he is struggling right now.
He has ASD and the lack of contact with anyone apart from me is literally turning him into a shell of himself.
If they don't re-opened I've already made the decision to send him back anyway as I'm a keyworker. I'm extremely worried about his mental state, and anyone with a child like mine will know the rate of anxiety, self harm and suicide is alot higher than those with NT children

Ours is opening for years R, 1 and 6 for 1 morning and 1 afternoon a week.

MarcelineMissouri · 20/05/2020 19:36

Our school is open for key worker children already but have said they intend to be opening from 8th June for R and yr1 (no yr6 here) Detailed plans to follow.

courderoy · 20/05/2020 19:36

Opening to year 6, 2 days a week only. We had a long letter detailing health and safety changes. No detail at all on what and how they will be taught but there was a reference to working in line with the home learning packs. They can’t confirm whether they will have a teacher or a TA. There was nothing about whether there would be any benefit in going in but i have to confirm if I want a place for DS.

tiredanddangerous · 20/05/2020 19:38

We haven’t been told yet

UselessTrees · 20/05/2020 19:48

Ours is planning to open for all YR, Y1 and Y6 for four and a half days per week (early finish on Fridays to allow for PPA and cleaning).

Coldilox · 20/05/2020 19:51

Our LA have told schools not to open, so ours won’t.

Still open for keyworker children though, so my son will still be going on some days

MountainousLake · 20/05/2020 19:55

I'm not in the UK and ours opened a week ago last Monday. No choice in sending the kids back or not as you have a legal obligation to send them to school. There's an exception if the child or close family member Is shielding (proof from doctor required). Full classes, full time.

TooMuchBloodyChoice · 20/05/2020 19:57

Our LA has confirmed schools will be open in our borough.

Our individual primary school will open w/c 8th June.

Most parents are sending their children back. We unfortunately cannot.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 20/05/2020 20:03

My dad's school has been open for keyworkers.
According to the info on their website they're doing all they can but it sounds horrible.
They can't guarante safety, they can't guarantee children will be taught by their teachers, they can't guarantee their class friends will be in the same group, they won't be leaving the classroom for lunches or for play times and they will be monitoring all children when they get up from their tables to ensure they don't go too far.

I don't think, if I'm honest, that the environment will be good for the kids mental or physical wellbeing, it sounds almost prison like. Sat at a table, taught by people they don't know, unable to mix with friends, in the same 4 walls 9-3 etc.

Chocolateandamaretto · 20/05/2020 20:04

Our school have said they are expanding keyworker provision before they take any yr R, 1 or 6.
So anyone with one keyworker parent (previously prioritising those with 2 keyworker parents) then R, 1, 6 in that order.
Planning to accommodate 210 kids(approx half the school) 4 days a week.

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 20/05/2020 20:48

we home educate so schools dont means anything to us but my niece and nephew are in the (only)local village school,it got closed(heads choice) a week before official lock down started so its been a long time

she was emailed yesterday and told that the school is staying closed till September at least no matter what changes oficially

we are a small welsh village in the valleys of south wales and i would say there theres not even a hundred kids that attend so classes are small

kids are(were)y1 and y5 so 7 and 10
