Just that. We are not 14, we are grown-ups, do we really need smiley fake faced avatars peeking in sideways exclaiming 'Hi' to announce our presence. Make me fucking cringe, shudder. (I am very grumpy today).

OP posts:

@itworriesmethiskindofthing they're the ones checking into hospital awaiting you ok huns... 'Ye, inbox'd u huns'

gamerchick · 19/05/2020 22:12

I dunno, in none plague times they would be properly irritating. But in these twilight zone times, whatever brings people some pleasure no matter how childish it might be, I'm just not arsed. Fill your boots.

The nominations to swallow a raw egg, spoonful of sugar then a shot of alcohol.. Puke inducing and hard to avoid when they pop up on your newsfeed

Man, I have a dull friends list Grin

ColourMeExhausted · 19/05/2020 22:12

Oh lord YES! Was just thinking this tonight. And I cannot tell you how many tedious motherhood 'challenges', 'share 5 pics of yourself because women need to raise each other up...fix our crowns' etc.

Coming off it for a while I think. Everyone is utterly bored.

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 19/05/2020 22:47

Ah god yes, the 10 days 10 album covers challenge - as if anyone gives a fuuuuuuuck! And yes, it's REM, Radiohead etc for everyone!

I haven't been tagged in one of these yet (probably because people know I have no time for that kind of shite) but if I were to be, I'm so tempted to put Boyzone, Backstreet Boys and Peter Andre as the seminal albums of my youth! Grin

Mummyshark2019 · 20/05/2020 01:35

I like them. It's just a bit of fun.

Destroyedpeople · 20/05/2020 01:41

I must say that the 'ten days ten pix of me being wondermother ,no explanations is quite ghastly.

SpooniesAreGo · 20/05/2020 01:57

One of my friends genuinely did the 10 days, top 10 cheeses thing recently.

Iheartbellatrixlastrange · 20/05/2020 01:59

I don’t have any picture of myself on Facebook I just use it for keeping up with everyone and there life’s. And in Facebook group chats and groups. I usealy have my profile picture as some kind of animal. I really like the avatar as my profile picture as I can have something that kind of resembles me haha. It’s abit of fun at the end of the day, nothing to get worked up over.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2020 03:05

One of my friends genuinely did the 10 days, top 10 cheeses thing recently.

Actually I could ride that train. Dolcelatte, gorgonzola, parmegiano reggiano (other spellings are available), Caerphilly, halloumi, good strong cheddar, Boursin (I know I know), buffala mozzarella, Roquefort, and a decent goat.

Mmmmmm cheese.

ALongHardWinter · 20/05/2020 03:09

FrogFairy OMG that is one of my pet hates too! I've got one particular Facebook 'friend' who posts something like this every bloody week. It's always the same, ending with 'I know the ones who will' or 'I am interested to see who will'. I deliberately don't respond. Grin

redcarbluecar · 20/05/2020 05:07

I enjoy FB but it’s bloody dull at the moment. Top 10 albums, books, places you’ve been (with no labels or explanations so it’s meaningless), ‘life is good’ (is it?) pictures stretched over infinity and described as a ‘challenge’ or a ‘dare’. And I completely agree about the avatars 😊 The 30 day snooze feature is coming in handy at the moment.

blancheduboiss · 20/05/2020 05:11

Fuck me, MIL is awful for all of this shite. We recently suffered the “I dare you to post ten photos that make you proud to be a mother” drivel, which basically consisted of her uploading one photo for ten days, that we’ve already seen her post eleventy-billion times. I might start rethinking my friends list ...

Willowkins · 20/05/2020 05:41

All the above plus the ones which start: I'm just an ordinary guy but this is what I think about the situation... followed by some rambling nonsense about the government doing the best it can. Don't waste my time Dominic. Also, one of my family members wrote a poem Hmm

Holidayaddict · 20/05/2020 07:42

All this stuff annoys me at the best of times and I never partake (especially the "I think I know who will" crap) but there seems to be so much more of it atm, probably as many people are bored and not doing much else. I've been busier than usual working from home but I think I must be in the minority as my feed is full of this stuff as well as people showing off their baking/homeschooling/gardening etc. This is also from people who are supposedly WFH but are clearly not doing much work!
I'm probably jealous as I don't have time for any of it and have also had to mute a WhatsApp group full of people talking drivel all day Iong....

Nightbirdcackle · 20/05/2020 08:01

Don't get an avatar then Confused Don't really see the harm?

I agree with PP that posts that consist of a long guilt tripping burble, followed with "which of my friends will take the time to read this and share to five others? I think I know who will." They're just awful!

The80sweregreat · 20/05/2020 08:43

The films one puzzled me as a lot of the stills I didn't recognise! At least with albums the artists name is on it (usually. )

HopeYouStepOnALego · 20/05/2020 09:02

What annoys me is that people suddenly start posting these things (avatars) and I've absolutely no idea how they've done it. The instructions must have passed me by. That may not be a bad thing though!

So glad I pied FB years ago, I'm sticking with Twitter and Insta, far less cringy.

And my parents aren't on them.

MouthBreathingRage · 20/05/2020 09:27

The one that annoys me is the Facebook/Snapchat filters. Ridiculous, over-smooth faces with Harry Potter glasses and cartoon dog ears. What do they think they look like Confused. I saw a 40 year old woman use one, with the caption 'look so old today Sad'. Well yes you do, no one thinks a middle aged woman trying to look 15 ever pulls it off.

Linguaphile · 20/05/2020 09:30

YANBU OP. They are mega cringe.

I was tagged recently to do the 10 days/10pics of motherhood challenge and just pretended I never saw it. Does anyone actually enjoy seeing those “Look at me being amazing for the next 10 days” posts?

RingaRosie · 20/05/2020 09:38

The 10 Things posts are pointless, as I haven’t read / looked at a single one. They’re not a fascinating insight into your personality... They are telling us how boring you actually are. Especially if there’s a picture of your dinner / desk / dog.

peppersaunt · 20/05/2020 10:04

Oh goody! Facebook annoyances! Why do all the 40-50 somethings post avatars of 20-somethings? One friend posted an age appropriate avatar and I had to do a double take (wrinkles!!!). I’m so sick of the 10 days of anything posts. At least the photos of the not-so-tasty-looking food people have made seem to have stopped.

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 20/05/2020 11:47

Also, one of my family members wrote a poem

I’m so sorry, @Willowkins

Gingerkittykat · 20/05/2020 16:32

10 days of cheese? I'm up for that one, I love cheese.

I've not worked out how to do my avatar yet but wonder if I can make myself fat, ginger and freckled like the real me!
