To think you don’t burn many calories doing PE with Joe!

I’ve done PE with Joe (with my kids) 3-4 times a week since the start so 9 weeks in. But I really haven’t noticed much change to my body shape at all and after 9 weeks I would expect to be more toned? I am stronger and can do a 1 minute plank but that’s about it.

Aibu to be a bit disappointed?!

I run 5-7k three times a week and do Pilates and I find the Joe Wicks workout gets my heart rate up and it doesn't feel easy at all to me. I haven't persevered with it as I find that kind of exercise quite boring - I prefer to run and play sports but I do think someone who hadn't done much exercise previously would benefit from it.

The best advice I got when I started on a weight loss drive was "You can't outrun a bad diet"- ie it's the calories you take in, not what you burn off, that matter.

That said, it's better than sitting on the sofa.

PE with Joe is a workout aimed at children....he has many many other YouTube workouts aimed at adults

Those whinging that you don't actually do much exercise because it's 30 secs on 30 secs rest....it's hiit training that's what it's supposed to be like but for the 30secs on you are supposed to work flat out to get your heart rate right up to help burn calories....you will then continue to burn more calories after the workout

Oh and for the first time in my nearly fifty years I can actually do push ups. So yes, lockdown hero from me too!

I do yoga with Sarahbeth and her 20min routines leave me out of breath - have yet to finish one, but I have already seen great benefits to my strength and flexibility and balance as it’s a total body workout. That’s what you need really and you need to do it properly so you can feel the movement. Joe wicks’ kids workouts are good for a warm up though.

I was late to the party, but am on my 5th week of PE with Joe (and Rosie). I find it a great way to start the day, gets me out of bed and dressed, ready for a day of work. My kids won't do it with me (plus their school starts lessons at 9, so they can't really do it live anyway).

In normal life I see a PT fortnightly and do a weekly circuits class (plus yoga, walking and maybe the occasional run or cycle). I'm seeing my PT for the fist time since lockdown on Friday in the garden, so we'll see how well PE with Joe has kept my fitness up.

My Apple Watch shows me burning between 175-225 active cals during the workout, and my ave heartrate is at about 135 (inc warm up and a longer cool down stretch as I do some specific exercises), and I'd normally do 450-500 in an hour's circuits/PT session, so it doesn't seem too far off the mark.

Oh and beyond the exercise, Joe's such a happy, cheerful face in the morning, and he makes me laugh. I think he's being really innovative, each workout differs from the last, and he seems genuinely surprised and delighted with the number of participants every day. And to have done all this with a broken wrist and then a secondary infection has been really quite noble. Thanks Joe, Rosie, Indie and Marley.

I never liked Joe Wicks but have become a big fan during lockdown. Like pp have said, it does what it says on the tin - gets you up and moving in the morning and gets the heart rate up. I also run and do a PT session once a week and have seen a difference in strength since I've been doing it regularly. I agree with the argument that you get out what you put in - use a kettlebell or weights for the squats and lunges if you can, do full burpees rather than half ones and really go all out! I'm a definite convert now and really appreciate the fact he's put in the time to be there smiling each morning for everyone throughout. It's not going to turn you into a superhero overnight but it's a nice way to wake up your metabolism in the morning. If you're reading Joe and Rosie, it's a thanks from me too!

My kids love it, from the super sporty one who was doing 10h a week organised sport before lockdown to the one who is always convinced they are rubbish at sport (and has visibly toned up between this and the constant trampolining). He's a superstar as far as this household is concerned.

Try his adult ones, the advance hitt workouts with weights. You should be sweating after those 😥
