To think life will be pretty much normal by early 2021?

I hope we are! A colleague said today (he has no extra knowledge or info) that he can't see us being back in the office before 2021.

Do you think Covid will be mostly behind us by then or we will still be living with restrictions?

You could argue the same a out schools

Hardly. Schools going back has clear advantages for both children and parents. Going back to an office when you could easily work from home has no real advantage.

MissConductUS · 18/05/2020 19:15

Again, though, this thread is one of those Mystic Meg ones (people reading stuff in their tea-leaves, or consulting their horoscopes).

Except that two of us posted links to some positive phase 1 clinical trial data for a messenger RNA vaccine, which is supposed to be easier to mass produce than traditional vaccine.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 18/05/2020 19:15

no i dont think it will

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 18/05/2020 19:15

RockKnobster dementors 😂😂

TheGonnagle · 18/05/2020 19:16

Everything will magically be better by October 17th. Because that’s when I’m going on holiday. I’ve already had to cancel one and I refuse to countenance the prospect of another.
So don’t worry, it’s all going to be fine.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 18/05/2020 19:16

i think we will not be able to work or shop in such close conditions again.

Doyouavocado · 18/05/2020 19:17

I fuckng hope so, currently my weekly Aldi shop has is my new Saturday night out.

fairgame84 · 18/05/2020 19:18

As soon as we have to start queueing for 20 minutes to get into the supermarket when it's constantly raining, people will give up and go back to normal.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 18/05/2020 19:19

Being a miserable pessimistic fucker doesn't increase your COVID-19 survival chances or get you magical brownie points. There's nothing wrong with being optimistic and focusing on the future

Actually, I think it does help, accepting that things are going to stay as they are for a while Has made it easier to adapt to new requirements, main bonus is that I don’t get disappointed any more about lock down not being lifted, I just try to make the best of what we have and I have not found the lockdown that difficult even when we are shielding. In fact, I found it quite reassuring when they finally send us all home Blush

Alsohuman · 18/05/2020 19:19

So glad someone said that, my trip to Morrisons is the highlight of my week too.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 18/05/2020 19:21

I even dress up to go to the supermarket! Grin

I even straightened my hair last week!

Devlesko · 18/05/2020 19:22

what's normal, now?
it's certainly never going to go back to the old normal, we move on and find new cultures and norms.

Lucindainthesky · 18/05/2020 19:25

I actually think it could be years before anybody can go to the theatre.

The whole industry will collapse without a government bailout. Theatres currently have no income and if they are still solvent once they're allowed to reopen, there won't be any shows because no producer is going to tour when only a tiny fraction of seats can be sold due to social distancing.

I think the majority sadly will close, and so it could be years before anybody could fund them to reopen.

LemonPudding · 18/05/2020 19:25

Why dementors? Isn't that a form of abuse and not allowed?

burntpinky · 18/05/2020 19:27

I bloody well hope so. I’m on maternity leave from end October and am taking extended mat leave until following September and we want to go away loads. Will not be happy if we are in lockdown for most of it

Puppylucky · 18/05/2020 19:33

The arts are under severe pressure at the moment but the pent up demand for live entertainment is huge - according to Ticket Nation 80% of ticket holders for postponed events have held onto their tickets. Regardless if they come back with limited numbers initially they will be back.

IndiaMay · 18/05/2020 19:38

People keep taking about 'when lockdown is lifted'. Lockdown IS lifted. We're allowed out now unlimited amounts, we are now in just 'life'. Unfortunately life has changed whilst no one was looking

JacobReesMogadishu · 18/05/2020 19:38

I think we’ll be 90% back to normal. So schools, shops, work all back. Maybe more masks and distance where you can. But unless a vaccine maybe no big gatherings, so no concerts, maybe not the cinema, theatre, etc.

Elmerrrrrrrr · 18/05/2020 19:38

Erm no dementors are characters from Harry Potter Hmm

Lyricallie · 18/05/2020 19:43

I'm praying for October for my rescheduled wedding. It's a ceilidh (in theory!) so people need to be allowed to dance! Otherwise I need to think of a new alternative entertainment which everyone can do from 2 m away!

sirfredfredgeorge · 18/05/2020 19:48

No it's not, lots of people are not allowed to go to work, no-one is allowed to use a children's playground or a gym, or a swimming pool, or meet two friends, lock down is very much in place. lockdown is not what you're describing it as, even if the name might not meet your preferred term.

MarshaBradyo · 18/05/2020 19:54

I reckon it’d be nearly normal (if no vaccine) with some differences. But school, office and eating out will be happening. Who knows really though.

It might be that new kind of thing not unlike extra security measures in airports. Not too onerous and we’ll be more used to it.

Selfsettling3 · 18/05/2020 19:54

Hoping for something doesn’t make it true.

BakewellTarts · 18/05/2020 19:55

@IndiaMay I would say that this isn't life. My life includes my family not all of whom live with me. So lockdown is still biting.

Fluffybutter · 18/05/2020 19:56

I bloody hope so!🤞🏼
