Menthol cigarettes : what (aside from vaping) is the alternative please?

I'll start by saying I understand this is not a popular subject, yes smoking is a terrible habit..... not ready at this time to give up , I won't bore you all with why - I need recommendations for alternatives please!?!

So.....

Now that menthol cigarettes are about to disappear from sale... those of you who do smoke these what are you buying instead please? I've tried a few alternatives and really not found anything I like at all.
I'm not feeling the vape thing at all, I'd prefer real cigarettes just not the overly strong type I've tried so far. What brands are a "lightweight" (DP's phrase not mine) smoke do you find?
Many thanks 😊

My mum smokes Mayfair, which are known as "the quitters cigs" as they are lower in tar and nicotine. She has the white pack which have loads of holes poked in the filter and are like smoking air :o I used to wrap an extra paper around if I had one of hers. There is a dark blue and light blue which are in between though. Or silk cut are lighter ones. Again ask for the low tar ones. Anyone working on a counter will be happy to look at the sides of the packs and compare for you, people don't ask often but it's a normal thing to ask.

We're (DH and I) about it too.. smoking has been somewhat of a joy during lockdown. I don't smoke full time but DH does. My local shop had already sold out yesterday.

Let adults make their own bloody decision. We have the clicky ones as I smoke menthols and he smokes normal, but likes to click towards the end of it for that menthol taste.

The sheets sound interesting.

CoachBombay · 17/05/2020 19:14

I tried everything, the menthol infusion you out in the pack are ok. Ultimately though I now vape a menthol e-cig. I have a vype pen cost £5 for 2 cartridges and one cartridge last me just under a week. I've saved loads of money.

If you decided to take the plunge and quit/vape. Try a few different pipes/pens till you find one you like.

Ridingthegravytrain · 17/05/2020 19:15

Drip peppermint oil (not essence) across the filters. Gives a nice menthol hit. Maybe silk cut would be a good weak cigarette?

MorganKitten · 17/05/2020 19:23

Those papers make the box smell but do nothing to the cigarettes.

DollyPartonsBeard · 17/05/2020 19:58

As far as I can see, menthol filters are still going to be legal. It's only menthol flavoured cigarettes or tobacco sold packaged with flavoured papers and/ or filters that are being banned.

Sterling have brought aome out called sterling new dual. There are leaf wrap and look like mini cigars. Tried one not the best but i only smoke when im drunk so sure ill get used to it. They have got aroind it as classed as a cigar not a cigarette. Not sure why that matters and whether they will be banned in time.

helloPig · 17/05/2020 22:18

honestly, you can buy a simple vape for £15 and use menthol liquid. i did this at the end of january and haven’t smoked a cigarette since. smokers cough is completely gone.

i use Halo Menthol Blast liquid and it’s just like smoking. except a lot better for you!

blaaake · 18/05/2020 03:29

I'm no longer a smoker but if you're looking for something less harsh, I used to get pall mall blue Smile

Nat6999 · 18/05/2020 03:57

From what I have read, all things menthol & tobacco are banned from later this month, so I would imagine the menthol sheets will be as well.

MidsomerMum · 18/05/2020 08:09

My cousin puts a polo or mentos in a pack of normal straights when she can’t get menthols. Same idea as the sheets. Apparently was told this by someone who works in the tobacco industry and swears it works.

StCharlotte · 18/05/2020 08:29

They don't show the levels of tar etc on packs any more. Which I really don't get.

No the sheets won’t be banned, they were invented specifically for the reason that menthol cigarettes would soon be banned.

BertieBotts · 18/05/2020 14:22

Oh don't they?? That's not very helpful...

Mirador · 18/05/2020 14:23

Not sure if this will be of any help to anyone. When supermarkets stopped selling the tobacco I used, I went looking and found I can actually buy my filters and papers (and they do the tobacco I use) and other stuff directly from Bull Brand. www.bullbrand.co.uk/

I don't use menthol, but they do a range of tips, papers etc. Just had a quick look and they have some menthol tobacco, tips, vape liquid, papers, and other stuff I haven't a clue about.

Sameold2020 · 18/05/2020 14:26

This has made me so nostalgic! I've been given up 3 years, but bloody loved menthol cigarettes!!! Those were the days!!

ohnoitsnot · 24/05/2020 11:24

If you can get ultra slim menthol filters and cigs with a whole in the end of filter ( ie pall mall) . Cut menthol filter in half and squeeze down the hole . Job done

vikingwife · 24/05/2020 11:34

Menthol vaping with nicotine drops is your friend...seriously vape culture is so much fun!

Grumpylockeddownwoman · 24/05/2020 13:18

I hate to recommend this as had given up smoking and started again very recently - but... the sterling dual (new) are still menthol flavoured.

catinb0oots · 24/05/2020 13:32

B&H new dual

Chandler12 · 24/05/2020 13:39

Menthol filters are still legal (just cannot be sold in the same pack as tobacco). If you can roll buy menthol filters and then pouch of tobacco.

Tumbledryer1 · 24/05/2020 13:50

You can still get menthol filters for roll ups. They are not affected apparently. I cannot see the reasoning behind all this at all but there you go.

doubleshotespresso · 24/05/2020 14:34

So I've just found these (in packs of 10 which I thought was also a no no?!)
I'm not sure I'm enough of a hipster to do vaping but will definitely look into your recommendations thanks everybody so much.

I have not found B&H duel yet but will continue to look thanks.

I don't get the reasoning either- completely ridiculous!

Ah cigarillos! As rolled in a cigar paper they bypass the law on both 10 packs and branded carton. Tobacco companies are something else 😅

doubleshotespresso · 24/05/2020 15:40

@Chandler12 yes exactly.

An acquired taste t be perfectly honest, the menthol is reasonably strong but there's a fairly distinct cigar type flavour towards the end I'm not overly keen on! However they beat pinching my DP's B&H silver which make me heave
