Preposterous job titles

dogsdinnerlady · 16/05/2020 19:07

Someone sent me an email today and signed off with their job title 'Behaviour Change Training Practitioner'. What is that? Whose behaviour needs to change? Seem to be a lot of pseudo titles around these days. Anyone seen anything worse?

More than two words and it is made up.

Reminds me of spoof BBC doc - wasn't there a 'head of better'?

In a previous (American) owned company I was

"Finance Specialist 5"

Head of finance was what I used on email sig.

topcat2014 · 16/05/2020 19:12

Mind you, I see I have broken my own rule!

Erm, yours? Sorry to break it to you! Grin

You just need to go on an NHS jobs board to see the most ridiculous titles

SpeedofaSloth · 16/05/2020 19:24

YY to NHS.

I would like to be known as the Grand High Vizir of Paperclips, given the choice.

DH (engineer) gets really annoyed with "technicians" who aren't technical.

Twickerhun · 16/05/2020 19:24

Capital punishment adviser at amnesty was my favourite

WhatwouldLangdo · 16/05/2020 19:28

I thought it was going to be about job titles that actually were ridiculous, like 'sandwich artists' at Subway. Nothing wrong with working there but it doesn't need a frilly title.
There's plenty of behaviour change courses that trainers deliver Hmm It's quite often related to health behaviour change e.g. smoking cessation, disordered eating, substance misuse etc.

Head of Talent Acquisition - HR manager.

17CherryTreeLane · 16/05/2020 19:31

Geniuses. Not, you're a shop assistant.

rosecreakybex · 16/05/2020 19:32

Anything "ninja" "evangelist" "warrior" or the like - awful!

InThisMultiverse · 16/05/2020 19:33

Vision technician - window cleaner

rosecreakybex · 16/05/2020 19:33

@iklboo that's actually a recruitment manager

Mnthrowaway20202 · 16/05/2020 19:35

I used to work in HR whilst at university, my role being “HR Officer”. Not going to lie, I felt a bit silly when I reported something to the police and they asked my occupation, they rolled their eyes and I internally cringed. They put me down as HR assistant😂

I have seen some strange roles from ex colleagues on linked in, eg exaggerating their previous titles to make them seem more senior. Don’t they feel embarrassed? As there are people who know what their actual role and responsibilities were and know they’re lying.

iklboo · 16/05/2020 19:35

@rosecreakybex - it's the HR manager where I work. Which makes it worse.

CanadianJohn · 16/05/2020 19:36

I had a job - 30 years ago - as an "administrative assistant". No one knew what I was supposed to do, including my manager. I just helped out around the office.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 16/05/2020 19:38

I remember my husband telling me his title had been changed to ‘warehouse operative’. He thought it was hilarious as it made him sound like a spy. He stacked car parts on shelves. This was years ago at the beginning of nonsense lingo.

PrimeraVez · 16/05/2020 19:41

Yup. In my company we have a lot of ‘Storytellers’ who are basically corporate copywriters.

Livpool · 16/05/2020 19:41

I'm a Test Analyst - I always think it sounds a bit wanky! I usually tell people (only if they ask!) i work in IT or pensions (the industry I am part of)

bunbunbun · 16/05/2020 19:42

I once did a full body shudder when an email arrived from a recruitment consultant, sharing a list of his latest candidates, with the official job title "Head of Making Friends" in his signature. My EYES!

rosecreakybex · 16/05/2020 19:43

Well that's just stupid then @iklboo - only mentions one part of the job. Idiot person.

Oh "storytellers" are the worst. Also wizards

rosecreakybex · 16/05/2020 19:45

I had a a job interview once at the head office of Build a Bear.... ridiculously they are all called Bears. I.e. "Marketing Bear" (which I was there for... but also "HR Bear", Engineering Bear... and so on and so forth

swampster · 16/05/2020 19:49

A long time ago I was a temp in the Temporary Accommodation Department of a housing association. They had people who were known as Discharge Officers.

CorianderLord · 16/05/2020 19:50
