What do I do

OP posts:

In a couple of weeks you need to start looking out for leaves coming out his arse just in case it's germinated in his colon. On the plus side, keep him well watered and you'll have plums all autumn.

ViciousJackdaw · 16/05/2020 20:02

Could you just get him to shit in a hole in the garden then? You could end up with a beautiful tree.

myangelalex · 16/05/2020 20:04

99% certainly he will poo it out without difficulty. Official advice is to examine poo to ensure it hasn't lodged in one of the folds of the gut (highly unlikely) and has been expelled. Same with plastic toys, marbles etc. Only worry would be very sharp objects or batteries.

"if it disnae stuck in yer throat, it'll no stick in yer erse". GrinGrinGrin

buenavistabelle · 16/05/2020 20:26

I remember reading about a guy who went to a holistic retreat for a colonic cleansing experience. He was about 45 years old at the time. He had to drink lots of fruit smoothies and water and then had a colonic. After the colonic he went to the toilet and heard a clink. Out had popped a marble that he had swallowed when he was FIVE YEARS OLD.

"if it disnae stuck in yer throat, it'll no stick in yer erse"

This is wonderful.

I feel like cross-stitching it and having it framed.

looselegs · 16/05/2020 20:44

My son swallowed a pound coin once. I rang 111, they said as long as he had no pain- there's the danger of it causing a blockage- and his breathing was still normal, then he should be ok. They also said it would take 2- 6 days for him to poo it out.
It took the full 6 days- him pooing on a potty( he wasn't impressed,he was 6 years old. Told him I was less impressed at having to poke through every poo with a pair of old chopsticks!) me looking for a quid!
Kept the bugger after I'd washed it just for the amount of digging I had to do!

@ViciousJackdaw
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

june2007 · 16/05/2020 20:49

I have swallowed a few, if they have gone in ok they will come out ok and you dson,t need to do anything.

Samtsirch · 16/05/2020 21:19

Nothing to worry about at all.
We spent most of our childhood scrumping and must have swallowed countless stones, pips and seeds.
Whatever went in came out, and no plum trees ever grew out of our ears.😊

firstmentat · 16/05/2020 21:20

I have pictures in my head now that have nothing to do with plum stones.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/05/2020 21:26
Shock
hadafuckingnuff · 16/05/2020 22:29

"f he doesn't go today or by the morning definitely call 111 because I'd won't digest and can block his insides
I’m sorry but this is absolute nonsense. It won’t digest but of course it won’t block his insides. Christ"

Although rare it's not impossible to cause a bowel obstruction.

june2007 · 17/05/2020 01:10

Seriously don,t phone 111. (unless there really is an issue., thi is not it.)

Rubyupbeat · 17/05/2020 01:19

My younger one, grown now, swallowed a lego brick once, he was 3, it was a square one. Rushed him to a and e, it wasnt stuck, they told me, ripe bananas and fruit juice, come back in a week if he'd not passed it. Made him use a potty, next day a beautiful embedded bright yellow brick appeared.
It didn't appear to hurt when he passed it either....ouch!

Thepigeonsarecoming · 17/05/2020 01:30

Well that’s my life changed 😂

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 17/05/2020 01:32

It may be a bit sore on the way out........I had a habit of swallowing plum stones until I had the most painful poo of my life recently.

Ended up with a bleeding butthole for my lazy sins. 🙄

Pikachuka · 22/03/2022 05:45

How did it end? Did you find the stone in his poo (and if you did, how long did it take to come out?) my DD is 3 and just did the same… 111 said that according to poison control as long as the child swallowed less than 3 plum stones is fine (poison-wise).

listsandbudgets · 22/03/2022 07:06

I grew up with a plum tree in the garden. I ate massive of plums and plenty of plum stones.. Im still here.

Don't worry OP he will be fine Smile

LakieLady · 22/03/2022 07:24

Zombie!

If that plum stone's still up there, it'll be a sizeable sapling by now.

Halllyup17 · 22/03/2022 07:27

Mine did at 18 months. Came out after a couple of days. No problems.
TheNoodlesIncident · 22/03/2022 07:38

@Pikachuka My DS did the same thing, I started a thread about it because I was mildly worried too.

We had a nice reassuring chat and someone posted a link to a guy who had a sapling germinate in his lung because he inhaled a seed (from a pine cone irrc) and all was well! (With us, not with tree guy, though they did get it out.)

I didn't poke about in poo and no ill effects at all. Nowadays he doesn't eat plums or much fruit, so I look back on the plum stone episode with nostalgia.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 22/03/2022 07:44

@SeaToSki

Might be an old wives tale, but give him lots of bread to eat to cushion it on the way through....
Not a tale - that is what I do with my dogs when they eat inedible things (like screws) etc. Give him untoasted bread and butter.
Recycledblonde · 22/03/2022 07:48

My daughter did this aged 3, I called my FIL who was a GP and he said it was the perfect shape to pass through. I didn't look through her poo and I presume it came out without any problem as she's 30 now.

Pikachuka · 22/03/2022 07:49

Thank you for the reassurance re. the plum stone!
That is a creepy story about pine cone germinating in the lung though, I bet they had to operate on that guy to take it out 👀
