Someone I know of recently passed away age 60. I was talking to a friend who also knows this person and said how sad it was that she passed away so young. My friend said 60 wasn’t young at all to pass away. In my view anyone under annoy 75/80 is young to pass away.

Yes, 60 is young to die. I'm sorry for your loss Flowers.

Grumpylockeddownwoman · 16/05/2020 10:30

Yes it’s very young - think about it - the (old) retirement age is 65z

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2020 10:31

Your friend is a bit thick.

olivesnutsandcheese · 16/05/2020 10:31

My DF died aged 61. Way way too young

SerenDippitty · 16/05/2020 10:32

Yes 60 is young to die. Your friend was being ridiculous!

Purplequalitystreet · 16/05/2020 10:32

Yes it's young. My DF died at 59. My DM feels robbed of the retirement years. They'd planned all sorts. He's also missed the birth of his first grandchild. 60 should be when you get to wind down and enjoy life.

Widowodiw · 16/05/2020 10:32

Yes it is but my husband died at 38 so if I make it to 60 then I’d think I had a good innings. Perhaps depends upon what death you have been surrounded by.

thegcatsmother · 16/05/2020 10:33

My Dad died at 60 and a week. We went to see him for his birthday, and were back a week later for his death.

Willowmartha1 · 16/05/2020 10:34

Definitely my lovely sister died at 59 she had loads if life left to live, tragic.

Defender90 · 16/05/2020 10:35

Yes, my Mum died at 60 and I felt robbed, she was just starting to think about early retirement and all the plans she was making with Dad just gone

WaterOffADucksCrack · 16/05/2020 10:36

60 is young! I work in a care home and I'd say anything under 80 is young!

BatCrazyCat · 16/05/2020 10:36

60 is very young to pass away

Toomboom · 16/05/2020 10:36

60 is far too young to die.

lotusbell · 16/05/2020 10:37

My.mum was nearly 66 when she died, far too young.

Rubyred24 · 16/05/2020 10:37

My dad died 4 months before his 60th

bridgetreilly · 16/05/2020 10:38

It's quite young to die, but not exceptionally so.

helloworlditsme · 16/05/2020 10:38

My husband is 60 and we’ve a 16 and 14 year old. Way too young

transformandriseup · 16/05/2020 10:39

Yes, it's still fairly young and most people would still be working. I would say at least 70 plus is old.

firstimemamma · 16/05/2020 10:39

Of course it's young to die. I lost my grandma when she was in her early sixties and everyone agreed it was a young age to pass away.

Your friend is being very insensitive.

Sorry for your loss, 60 is no age to go Thanks

Fifthtimelucky · 16/05/2020 10:39

Assuming we are talking about the UK, I'd definitely they say that 60 is very young. I'd say anything under 80 is young.

I don't think my view is coloured by the fact that I'm 59!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 16/05/2020 10:39

60 is indeed young. I think about my parents who are nearly 60 and my PIL who are early 60s and think they are all young.

I’m sorry for your loss OP. Flowers

chomalungma · 16/05/2020 10:40

60 is young.

This is interesting

Put your age and sex in and you'll see the chances of making it certain ages.

According to it, I have a 90% chance of making 60

60 is still working age. Someone who turns 60 today will have to work another 6 years and 2 months before they get their state pension.

If 60's old, then I want my pension now. I shouldn't have to wait until August next year, I'm OLD!

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/05/2020 10:45

As a 53 year old woman, my life expectancy (I'm in good nick Blush) is 83. Both my parents are in their 80s and well for their age. I thiink that 60 is painfully young Sad

I'm sorry for your loss Flowers

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 16/05/2020 10:48

It all depends on what experience a person has with death. If someone has lost a loved one at a very young age, then 60 would not seem 'young'. From my point of view, I would've loved my Dad to live to 60. He died at 32. So that's my major experience of death. Most of my friends parents are now turning 60. I wouldn't consider them young if they died now.

The loss is still just as tragic for those left behind though.
