AIBU to think this is a worrying sign?

You can book a time slot for ours to come to your house. It's great weve got him coming tomorrow too.

Iwantacookie · 17/05/2020 10:44

Hes coming to deliver ice cream not drugs if anyone thinks that's why we order from him Grin

12stepCAKE · 17/05/2020 10:49

McDonald's drive through has started operating. What is different?

GreytExpectations · 17/05/2020 11:23

People classing drugs and frozen treats as essential was my worry, you know because of that highly infectious virus that has killed so many thousands of people.

Oh come off it, they ice cream vans are allowed to stay in business so they are doing nothing wrong. The world has ti eventually get back to normality. If you don't like it then keep yourself locked away and don't get the ice cream. No need to dramatise and claim concern over it

Underthehammer · 17/05/2020 11:24

Yeah McDonald's is open too. Great stuff. Heard healthcare workers can pay with claps there now? Well, I guess we just have to see how things look in about two weeks time. Going to put my faith in the wise masses and hope there isn't a huge second wave. Finngers crossed!

I love the description of it stalking the streets like it's Ted Bundy on wheels.

Nicknacky · 17/05/2020 11:26

Op, do you seriously expect everything to stay shut? Do you normal worry to this extent or is it just about corona that you over react to?

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 17/05/2020 11:27

Yum yum yum ice cream. Still listening for any by me.

I live in a brewery town. You can get beer delivered by shire horse & cart. Is that more or less murderous than an ice cream van, I wonder?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/05/2020 11:30

You can get drugs before you can get a reliable supply of flour? Ok.

Aragog · 17/05/2020 11:34

At no point has our choice of food and drinks been restricted to essentials only.

Take away - collection and delivery - has been permitted throughout the shut down. Not just if essentials but anything.

Why do you think we should only be buying essentials? Because no one - not even the Government - has said that, certainly not in England.

Our local taxi firms set up a food/drink delivery service near the start. They couldn't deliver people between a and b, but they could bring you some bottles of beer, an ice cream dessert and some pizzas - all fine and all under them rules.'

Not seen our ice cream man for a while but even before this they had a stand for cones which you took your purchases from.

This thread has made me really fancy a 99 with a flake!

Aragog · 17/05/2020 11:35

Sirsamuel - that sounds fab! I want beer delivered by horse and cart too now.

GreytExpectations · 17/05/2020 11:37

Why are you making up your own lockdown rules op? We have never been restricted to only essential foods. Takeaways have been open this whole time, are you normally this anxious?

Pinkbubbles12 · 17/05/2020 11:42

Ours is back out, she is a lovely lasy who has parked outside our housenfor years and our kids love her, she has pretty much watched them grow year by year.

We got ice creams and they were delicious.

Sje has a sign and a screen up for protection and uses gloves which she changes for each customer.

MorganKitten · 17/05/2020 12:02

We live in London, I thought all ice cream delivery vans in built up areas (away from the parks/seaside) primarily dealt drugs. It’s never occurred to me that they are trying to sell soft serve

I’m in London and it’s real ice cream, the dealers here are more creative.

Mrsjayy · 17/05/2020 12:07

Our ice creamvan has been coming round for years he certainly isn't a drug delivery service Grin he sells everything from ice cream to cigarettes he came back round on Monday after being off for weeks people have been going out to get milk and crisps,

ChaosTrulyReigns · 17/05/2020 12:10

Yeah McDonald's is open too. Great stuff. Heard healthcare workers can pay with claps there now.

I'm struggling to understand the claps sentence here. Obviously I know that it's a sign of appreciation for the NHS workers, but as a currency?

Could you explain, please?

Confused
ChaosTrulyReigns · 17/05/2020 12:10

Forgot to highlight the quote Hmm

Notcoolmum · 17/05/2020 12:11

I was wondering the other day why ice cream vans can't be out now. Mine has definitely stopped. Great idea to do essentials like bread too.

Mrsjayy · 17/05/2020 12:13

Do you expect people not to work forever ?

Lemonblast · 17/05/2020 12:17

Feel like a right dick now.
Ice cream van down the street last night.
I gave him a fiver.
He gave me three whipped cones and I told him to keep the change.
I didn’t realise he was there to sell drugs.

thatgingergirl · 17/05/2020 12:26

Ice cream vans are allowed to trade. Good for their business and a treat for their customers. Something normal, thank goodness.

I wish I had an ice cream van round my way - I really, really fancy an oyster now. Sainsbury's sell the shells and I can put some soft scoop in them, but it's not the same as with the swirly ice cream from a van.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 17/05/2020 12:27

Oh lemon, you'll be the laughing stock of the hard drugs trade for days!

Frazzled2207 · 17/05/2020 12:29

Ours has been out this week. There is a sign in the window saying please keep 2m apart. Unfortunately the queue were mostly not adhering to this.

I don’t blame him for trying to make a living if he legally can.

FrenchyQ · 17/05/2020 12:31

He's been coming round our way for the last couple of weeks, doesn't seem to be doing any trade on our estate tho, I'm not bothered by him bar that his jingle drives my dogs crazy (we bought them an ice cream once and now they howl every time they hear him coming)

AnnofPeeves · 17/05/2020 12:32

It's almost certainly less risky to buy a Mr Whippy in the street than to go down the ice cream aisle in a supermarket.
