Sorry about my reply in an earlier thread .
Re the locals not wanting any tourists.
Its just I feel ready to go mad with the current situation. I understand it is taxing for us all.
At the moment I crave the coast so much that I am ready to end my marriage of 30+years and move ( dh is settled here and self employed)
Weekends are always harder for us as we spent time out at the sea in all weather.
Once again sorry all.

@dottiedodah the latest government guidelines say you can travel to beaches, so you won't need a council tax bill.

The government are setting the rules, not the individuals that live in the county.

🙄

dottiedodah · 16/05/2020 11:49

This is true ,however it was made clear in our local paper /online ,that people from outside our county were advised not to come in ( By the Council head). My point being if no checks are done this is presumably just advice ? However there are signs everywhere as well, which would maybe try to make people have second thoughts .

@understandmenow never said it was ours. Just saying how frustrating life becomes during the summer. I think we are welcoming bunch considering how much life changes. I’m Cornish through and through, never want to move. But I have two children with additional needs. It’s so frustrating now busy everywhere is and they struggle with it! This is our home! It’s not just a tourist destination! That’s all I was saying. I think some tourists forget! I think we are very tolerant considering the madness. Neither mine or my partners job are affected by tourism. Not everything is about tourism here. Just let us have a summer in peace please! Treliske should only have to cater for those who live here full time.

Tourists come here. Some Need to visit a&e, some get in trouble being irresponsible on the coast and require the coast guard.. our emergency services are stretched at the best of times. We aren’t as well funded as the rest of the country. Our hospital cannot cope on an average summer with visits to -a&e. Let us have a peaceful summer please.

marblesgoing · 16/05/2020 12:30

We have no problem with the tourists and business in the summer months here in sunny Devon.
We do however have an issue with our small hospitals not being able to manage a massive influx of covid.

We are not rude and unwelcoming. We just have a high percentage of elderly down here so want to protect them aswel.

And we have one of the highest council tax and water rates which partially covers that of the millions of tourists that come to enjoy our area.

Yes we are lucky to live here but we pay the price for it

Hopefulmidwife · 16/05/2020 12:39

I haven't read the whole thread, apologies. I live in south Somerset. My partner wanted to go to Cornwall end of August before I start uni, and il be completely honest the media I've seen from Cornish/Devon areas, the 'stay away we don't want you' has put me off completely. We've decided to go to London for a few days to look at the historical bits instead. It will have an effect, and people will remember

AJPTaylor · 16/05/2020 12:55

Bollocks will people remember.
This time next year people will be gearing up to join the fucking queue down the m4/m5 like they always have. To spend a fortnight eating pasties in the pissing rain and telling themselves it was thousands of quid well spent.
That's just human nature. Are people really going to stop going to one of the most popular tourist areas just because of a few Facebook posts/stories?

Fluffybutter · 16/05/2020 13:02

You’d end a 30 year marriage to move to the coast ?!

Ineedflour · 16/05/2020 13:23

I have a second home in Cornwall that I planned to move to in a couple of years time. I buy everything for it locally, employ local people, do my best to fit in and ass positively to the place. I have kept away for all the right reasons.

Some of the Cornish responses to out of towners is really horrid. I'm quite likely to sell up after all this is over and holiday where I feel more welcome. It will prob sell, being touristy and the new owners may or may not contribute so much locally. Who knows/

understandmenow · 16/05/2020 14:36

Much the same in London @mag12 , imagine saying tourists weren't wrk one there! You'd be laughed out of town and rightly so! I pay my taxes, I'll travel to whatever part of the country I wish!

Lots of tourists end up in London a&e, I've had to wait hours because of some of them!

Pickles89 · 16/05/2020 14:42

@understandmenow But tourists shouldn't be welcome in London at the moment! Or in Norfolk, or in Cumbria, or in Cardiff, or in Dorset. It's not a time for holiday making, it's a time for staying in your own community!

Stinkycatbreath · 16/05/2020 15:20

Its a catch 22 but if you were someone who had been stuck in a cityflat for weeks. Of course you would head to the coast.

understandmenow · 16/05/2020 15:26

As I've said numerous times on these threads in line with government guidelines, currently people are allowed to travel to the beach for say trips, do they can.

Simple!

If at the beginning of July further restrictions are lifted and holidays allowed, more will travel.

Fingers crossed that happens.
