Is a general multivitamin enough or do you take extra on top?

I have slightly low vitD and iron. Other than that, all good.

Thanks!

I don't take any, just eat a varied diet and get outdoors every day. I'm 50 with no deficiencies as far as I know.

lurker2003 · 14/05/2020 23:02

I take b complex and b12 one, and vitamin d too. A friend recommended them because I was tired all the time and I’ve found they did help.

ofwarren · 14/05/2020 23:04

I take vitamin D as I have trouble holding on to it. It's really worked as my levels were 25 in February and now they are 75 which is classed as optimal.
I also take B12 and my levels of that are optimal too.

bridgetreilly · 14/05/2020 23:06

I've just started taking calcium and vitamin D.

QuestionableMouse · 14/05/2020 23:09

DragonMamma · 14/05/2020 23:09

I have b12 injections weekly (genuinely deficient), 5mg of folic acid, magnesium, vitamin D, grape seed extract bc and acidophilus. Oh and vitamin c!

teenagetantrums · 14/05/2020 23:10

Multi vitamin. Vitamin D. Vitamin c.. because l smoke and need extra vitamin c.

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 14/05/2020 23:13

Currently an all in one pregnancy vitamin.

FizzyPink · 14/05/2020 23:14

How do you all know what you should be taking?
I take strong pre and probiotics as I have quite a weak stomach and a daily well woman supplement but I have no idea if it actually does anything. I’d love to have a thorough consultation but worried they’d just be trying to sell me products

40somethingJBJ · 14/05/2020 23:17

A multivitamin, extra vit c and d, plus magnesium and evening primrose oil.

FuckYouCovid · 14/05/2020 23:25

Vit D3 4000iu daily
Vit C 1200 mg daily
Zinc 40mg daily
Magnesium 200mg daily
Iron 14mg daily

Iron and Magnesium for Restless legs.

Vit D and C because I'm low despite eating a good diet (also have MS and low Vit D3 is common among us).

Lamentations · 14/05/2020 23:34

Multivitamin (playing safe), vitamin B complex (paranoia over drinking alcohol), Cod Liver Oil (creaky knees, skin), Acidophilus (undefined notion it's good for my gut and my gut is almost my brain. Or something), Magnesium (nighttime leg cramps).

I might be pissing it all down the toilet but it makes me feel a bit better somehow.

QuestionableMouse · 14/05/2020 23:34

@Turnedouttoes I was tested by the GP and I'm anemic and struggle to hold onto vit D. The general multivit is just to top up on anything I might be missing.

Lamentations · 14/05/2020 23:36

Turnedouttoes I think most of us are stabbing wildly in the dark.

quarantinevibes · 14/05/2020 23:41

Vitamin d (bloods confirmed it was low) magnesium 500g, and a multivitamin. I’m quite weak in general and don’t get out too often and suffer migraines.

Davespecifico · 14/05/2020 23:44

Well Woman multivitamin, vit D and vit c.

MinkowskisButterfly · 14/05/2020 23:45

Multivitamin and iron (my iron levels are regularly low)

Dd1 and dd2 take a multivitamin for their age group.

Dh refuses to take anything but has agreed to take a vit d pill daily ( he spends 10hrs a day in work so barely sees any sunshine).

Dd 2s vits have double the daily recommended vit d. Mine and dd1 have the recommended vit d levels so may encourage dd1 to take a vit d as well if she will as she doesn't leave her room often.

Davespecifico · 14/05/2020 23:46

Can anyone in the know explain why Magnesium is thought to be a necessary supplement when there are such low levels of it in multivitamins?

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 14/05/2020 23:48

Vit d, magnesium and b complex.
I take vit c in winter time.
I spend any time I can outdoors playing with the dd’s ( when I say playing i mean supervising 😂)
I also drink a lot of wine so some of my 5 a day Wine

theseriousmoonlight · 14/05/2020 23:50

@AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea me too. I think I'll keep on taking them afterwards too (to not waste any) as my midwife said that was ok. I think I'll take a multivitamin and top up with cod liver oil or something similar once I've finished those. I try to eat a varied diet but I think a lot of women could do with extra iron and it seems we all need more vitamin d!

caringcarer · 14/05/2020 23:50

I had bloods dpne just before lockdown because i was feeling tired all the time. Turns out i was very veryy deficient in vit D and foliate and also decicient in vit b12. Now im taking daily vit D, vit B6 and B12, magnesium, zinc, and glucosamibe sulphate. It took a few weeks but I am no longer tired. I have a lot more energy.

caringcarer · 14/05/2020 23:52

Don't know why but Magnesium stops you feeling tired and drained.

SerenDippitty · 14/05/2020 23:53

I take turmeric for my arthritis but nothing else.

clairefrasier · 14/05/2020 23:53

For those taking vitamin D, have a look into taking Vitamin K alongside it. Vit D is supposed to work better with Vit K.

Anthilda · 14/05/2020 23:53

Magnesium apparently aids absorption of other vitamins @Davespecifico
