Woman on Sky TV singing live at her front gate to celebrate the NHS. It's too much. Stop. Please.

Once again my neighbour had her teenage DD out in the middle of the road dancing with the music blasting. They video her every week so they can post it on face book to show "the effort made this week for NHS staff" 🙄

Clap the supermarket workers, warehouse staff, utilities people, delivery drivers, post office workers and everyone else in invisible jobs. Everyone else at risk of coronavirus.

I am a nurse, I care for COVID-19 patients. I don't want applause for doing my job.

Not sure how her dancing contributes to the care of covid patients, but there you go.

we did the clap for the first time tonight, but only because i’ve just had a baby and a few of our neighbours have messaged me asking about her so we decided to show her off on the doorstep. cue my boyfriend acting like he was showing off simba on pride rock 😂

As soon as Kim Jong Al and the prefects started extolling the virtues of the NHS and how important clapping is, it was dead in the water.
People are mostly becoming more switched on to just how incompetent politicians have been over this, and how much of an over-reaction there has been.
Give it a couple of weeks, and no-one will be clapping anymore.

I hope you’re right!

Our street was louder tonight. No-one in this house claps - a few reasons...

  • The first week I didn’t know it was a thing and it felt weird to join in after that
  • I think it’s a bit ridiculous and a bit “look at me and how much I support the NHS” (despite the same people noticeably NOT social distancing at their weekly BBQs and other get togethers)
  • I have no flipping idea what day it is let alone what time it is and I only realise that it’s 8pm on a Thursday when I hear the neighbours start clapping!

@OneJump

I think we live on the same street as that was exactly what I said to my partner

We clap to keep the neighbours quiet. Although it's all a bit half hearted now. Lasted about 40 seconds tonight and everyone ran away inside not to be seen again until next Thursday

No clapping here. None last week either.

I do it every week- it's one minutes effort to show appreciation- that's all.

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut Crock of fucking shit, it’s the same arseholes giving daggers when your kid even looks at them from less than a fucking furlong away under normal circumstances. Yes but the virus can't spread on a Thursday night, it has a night off but hasn't realised we found out. It will be a bit dodgy when the virus realises and ambushes all the clappers. I'm being alert so no Thursday night shenanigans for me.

I saw a post on Facebook someone thanking their street for a good turn out, but that were a few missing, then a few came on feeling like they had to explain their absence. Hmm

Our local firework person has also clearly run out of fireworks.

He now has a whistle Grin

We're still clapping on our street. However I'm not specifically clapping for the NHS, I'm doing it as it's something people like to do and we see all the neighbours at the same time. It's just 5 minutes of solidarity during a shit few months,

They didn't hang around long tonight but the man with the brass bell was out making a racket and the women with the saucepans. I could cope with the clapping but the bell is horrible and the saucepans worse. There weren't so many people tonight, I live in hope that it will die out soon and I can have the windows open on Thursday evening.

It’s getting to the point where we need an exit plan to get out of the clapping as much as one for getting out of lockdown. When do they think they’ll stop?

It's ridiculous now. People last week in outer London dancing in Polar bear and dinosaur suits for the "clap"

The clap in my area is a chance for the neighbours to wave to each other and say hello. For that reason and just to recognise a good job, I think it's nice.

Luckily don't live near a lot of dickwads with fireworks.

I sent my son some goodies to show my appreciation (he's a nurse) and gave the dustmen a couple of bottles of lager each as I think they are wonderful and I'm always glad to see them. Then I sat on my behind and ignored the clapping as best I could.

I clap because my mad elderly neighbour who yesterday told me a long involved tale about spilling iced coffee over herself in Lidl (which took about half an hour) claps, and I love her and don't want to let her down. Clapping is the highlight of her week - I have to join in.

Yes, because there is usually always one (like the newest addition to my street) that think they have some God given right to police the clapping. Or think they are some sort of hero because "the street was just too quiet" and "she wanted to "do something to get people out to clap". She can say it to me as much as she likes, I'm not doing it. It's more of a protest now for me.

I'm not a fan of the clap.
Last week was so loud it scared my poor cat who tried to run through the glass door into the house. Dh had to rescue him.
This week I locked him in my Dd's room with her and told her to keep him busy will it's over. Poor cat thinks it's bonfire night every week.

The first clap was a nice idea. I didn't join in, but anyone who wanted to, fine. Since then it's just been, I don't know the right word... nauseating?
