Just that really... is anyone else noticing their bank account numbers rising!!? Due to being home on full pay and not spending on childcare, petrol, kids clubs, coffees etc etc all my pay is stacking up and I'm mind blown by how much I normally would be spending!! We are very lucky to not have many bills (no mortgage) we literally only pay insurances (life, house etc), electricity, Netflix and phones! I feel like I have been wasting A LOT of money beforehand! (I am aware that there are many not in this position etc and we are v lucky) but I also feel like I'm missing something and I owe someone/something a lot of money!!?? Anyone else??

I am the complete opposite. I am so bored at home that I am doing a lot of internet shopping!

FluffyAragog · 14/05/2020 18:38

We're saving a little here, no transport costs, kids school dinners, extra curricular clubs etc but we are spending a ridiculous amount on food. Apparently my children have an empty pit where there stomach's should be!

FluffyAragog · 14/05/2020 18:38

Aargh. *Their

SharpieInThe · 14/05/2020 18:39

I'm spending it one pizza and wine.

I'll make it all back from the documentary about how they took the front window out to get me out like an awkwardly shaped couch.

nitgel · 14/05/2020 18:39

Same as quacks. Gotta have something to look forward to in the post.

Livedandlearned · 14/05/2020 18:40

Me! Ive saved hundreds this month for the first time in ages. No kids dinner money, only petrol to work and weekly shop, no extras when we popped into Sainsbury's after school.

overthinking88 · 14/05/2020 18:42

I am saving money on petrol, lunches, coffee at work etc , but am finding more and more stuff around the house that needs doing and Amazon is my new best friend!

sqirrelfriends · 14/05/2020 18:42

I'm finding what I'm saving on meals out, childcare and commuting I'm spending on things to keep toddler DS entertained. The child has a lot more stuff since before lockdown started.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 14/05/2020 18:45

Yep! Saving loads even though I am ordering a LOT online and kids are eating everything in sight.
We are putting it away for now, is it even safe in a savings account with this huge recession on the horizon...!

zscaler · 14/05/2020 18:45

I’m the same, have saved huge amounts of money thanks to not commuting, eating out, buying lunches, going for drinks etc. It’s a big help for us since we are saving for maternity leave!

MooPointCowsOpinion · 14/05/2020 18:45

Also, Marie Kondo method is totally out the window isn’t it!

mum2jakie · 14/05/2020 18:46

Saving on petrol costs but spending lots more on food!

blubellsarebells · 14/05/2020 18:47

Ive spent money on decorating supplies and house stuff, all needed doing anyway and now ive got time.
Ordered my son a treat that cost more than i would normally spend on such things but less than i would spend on a trip to town for a nice dinner so thats all equal.
Im on 80% of 70% of my usual wage but saving money on fuel, childcare, meals out and activities.
My food shop isnt much more expensive, surprising because i normally eat at work 5 days a week but im meal planning and not wasting anything.
I imagine people wfh on full pay are doing quite well not spending on transport or childcare, they are my biggest regular bills after rent and council tax.

Titsywoo · 14/05/2020 18:47

Yes spending a lot less. Only really on food and drink plus the odd book or whatever from amazon. Food is a lot more than normal though.

Inforthelonghaul · 14/05/2020 18:49

Us but mainly because we have lost most of our income and may not have a job in a couple of months. It wasn’t so bad for a few weeks but with birthdays and time passing in general it’s getting very tedious and sadly our bank accounts are just getting emptier.

Stampy84 · 14/05/2020 18:50

@SharpieInThe 🤣

Mummyshark2018 · 14/05/2020 18:50

I'm spending more but have bought a few big things recently to keep kids entertained- hot tub being one.

MotherWol · 14/05/2020 18:51

Me! No childcare, no eating out, and getting groceries less frequently rather than doing daily top-up shops. I’ve been steadily decluttering over the last couple of months, so I’m avoiding shopping online out of boredom as I don’t want to fill the house with stuff. Apart from some wine and joggers I’ve bought basically nothing in the last two months.

fedupfrida · 14/05/2020 18:52

Yes me.
I'm amazed by how much money is left over this month. And that is with having a mortgage to pay, bills, insurances etc.
Even though we're spending a bit more on food shopping and even though I'm ordering a few bits off the internet (birthday presents, a new rug, bits for the garden) I'm still shocked at how much we were wasting prior to lockdown.
Things I know we're saving on; petrol, kids clubs/swimming lessons etc, massages, hair, coffees/eating out and random stuff that we must pick up when in town. I'm working on paying off our credit card instead and saving which is a joy. I plan to keep it up as much as possible!

UnfinishedSymphon · 14/05/2020 18:53

Saved loads here, no eating out, no petrol, hardly any takeaways, no shopping apart from the bare necessities....about £700/month better off since this began

BalloonSlayer · 14/05/2020 18:53

I am spending a fortune on the weekly shop and feel like I have been doing loads of internet shopping but I goggled at my Bank Statement when it arrived yesterday. Never had so much money in me life!! Not sure what I spend it on normally. Keeping the economy going I suppose Sad

junebug21 · 14/05/2020 18:53

@SharpieInThe 🤣 that made me Laugh our loud!! We are spending a little more on food I suppose. I thought the electricity bill would increase due to us being home but it decreased because I'm not using the clothes dryer with all the nice weather 😆

BlessYourCottonSocks · 14/05/2020 18:55

Have saved on long commute to work, which is a blessing. And obviously I spend far too much on coffee/lunch/cake etc - or just wandering round the shops buying crap I don't need for the house.

I'm ALMOST out of my overdraft Grin. First time in donkey's years.

Sewinginscotland · 14/05/2020 18:56

We're still putting nursery money into the tax free childcare account (which has built up alarmingly!), but the bank balance keeps rising! I'm spending a bit on Amazon, but not much. It's amazing how much the odd lunchtime trip to aldi/coffee and cake on a Saturday morning/Bacon rolls on a Friday morning etc all adds up usually. I still have to do a top up shop once a week for the bits we run out of/aren't in stock, but having 1 food delivery a week also really seems to save.

CoronaIsComing · 14/05/2020 18:57

We’re saving a lot on incidental spending but spending a lot more of food. We’re also moving house so buying a lot for the new house!
