When you clean the kitchen counter

With surface sprs, do you use a damp cloth/paper towel? Or dry?

My dh uses a dry cloth and it makes me want to heave. How can you wipe a dirty surface clean with a dry cloth and bit of spray?

And yet it doesn't say anything about water on the container. AIBU?

Either soapy water and wet cloth or Koh spray and dry cloth, then either way I buff with a cloth afterwards.

Godotsarrived · 13/05/2020 20:19

Antibac Spray, then wiped off with cloth that has been soaked in warm water and bleach... you need to wring the cloth out really well so it doesn't soak everywhere.

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 13/05/2020 20:22

My counter really doesn't get that dirty tbh, I've never thought I needed a wet cloth. I use chopping boards though that are then washed in the sink. Nothing really seems to be spilled on the surface.

SimonJT · 13/05/2020 20:23

Just one of those damp eco cloths.

bloodywhitecat · 13/05/2020 20:24

Damp cloth then allow to air dry as that is the way I was taught to use these kinds of sprays.

dementedma · 13/05/2020 20:25

Anti-bac spray AND bleach? What are you doing? Dismembering bodies?

IncrediblySadToo · 13/05/2020 20:27

Hot soapy cloth to wash it, then buff it dry.

Now with Covid I spray with Dettol spray (nice fine mist, but lots of it) & leave it to dry

StatementKnickers · 13/05/2020 20:28

Lots of spray, then wipe with dry kitchen toll until the surface is dry and streak-free.

Doesn't a wet cloth just dilute the cleaning agents?

IncrediblySadToo · 13/05/2020 20:29

@AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea

I use chopping boards too, but cooking from scratch I make a right unholy mess with lots of veg (& tonight curry).

Pipandmum · 13/05/2020 20:31

The spray is wet so if I use a spray I use a dry paper towel, otherwise it's diluted. My doctor sister says we should use wipes though as the spray gets inhaled.

Maybe I'm DH just tidier than you 😂

Wilkolampshade · 13/05/2020 20:56

Christ, always looks like my husbands been bathing a bloody whale after he's been anywhere near the work surfaces... I always have to go in and mop up after him wearing a sou'wester and a wellies...

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 13/05/2020 20:59

@Wilkolampshade I shall learn to appreciate mine more then 😂

We have granite counters that I spray with Koh with a splash of Zoflora added to make it smell good . Then wipe and buff with a dry ecloth. If the ecloth gets too damp I chuck it in the washing and use a fresh dry one. I get through a couple of cloths on an average day. The liquid dissolves and suspends the dirt and the cloth absorbs it. When there is a pile of damp cloths in the utility they all go in a hot wash.

If you wipe a granite counter with a cloth that is wet you end up with a horrible streaky mess.

Nottherealslimshady · 13/05/2020 21:07

Slightly wet cloth with antibacterial spray , I wash and reuse it between so it gets wet but not deliberately.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 13/05/2020 21:07

WUL in basin. An inch or so of very hot water. Spray surfaces. Clean cloth into the soapy water. Swirl. Wrong out. Wipe surfaces. Rinse cloth with hot water from tap and go over surfaces again to take off any residual spray.

Whybirdwhy · 13/05/2020 21:10

Just a wet cloth that is changed daily. I use chopping boards for all food prep tho and they go in dishwasher.

If I’ve chopped raw meat on the chopping board I wipe the counter with wet paper towel then spray and wipe with dry paper towel.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 13/05/2020 21:14

The thought of the dry cloth is making me itch.

Me too! Grin

Wilkolampshade · 13/05/2020 21:16

@AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea
Yes, do! Mine also leaves the bastard dirty water in the washing up bowl with the grease sadly clinging to the rim as it cools...
I. Just. Can't. Even.

EffOrf · 13/05/2020 21:17

Wet cloth with hot soapy water, only use spray if I have had meat or fish on it

BertieBotts · 13/05/2020 21:20

Dry cloth + spray for not-really-dirty surfaces, like shelves, bathroom tiles, baby's highchair.

Cloth with HOT water + spray (or other cleaning solution) for very dirty surfaces and/or anything with grease, like kitchen counters, defo stove top, toilet, and baby's highchair when it's a state.

Cleaning anything with a cold wet cloth is disgusting. Especially if it's not a new cloth!

I usually wipe them dry first with the old tea towel, to remove crumbs and debris that will just get in the way and clog up the cloth. Throw old tea towel in wash, get new clean cloth, submerge in as hot water as I can stand, clean with minimal spray. The heat does most of the work.

Our kitchen counters are awful Blush They always seem to have stuff on them - random drips from serving spoons or wooden spoons, spilled slops of tinned tomato, raw egg, grease splashes from cooking (not from me I hasten to add! DH is the grease maker!) bits of tea/coffee, sticky bits of squash.

FOJN · 13/05/2020 21:21

I wipe up the physical mess with a wet soapy cloth, rinse, wring it out, wipe again, let it dry then antibac spray with a sheet of kitchen towel. I think you do need to apply antibac to dry surfaces with a dry cloth to get the most benefit from it. I don't use it as a cleaner but more for good hygiene in food prep areas.

BertieBotts · 13/05/2020 21:23

I don't use disinfectant but will use a general cleaning spray, generally grease-removing for kitchen and limescale-removing for bathroom.

pussycatinboots · 13/05/2020 21:29

Dettol multi surface cleaner and kitchen roll - then bin.

MrsRogerLima · 13/05/2020 21:30

Hot, soapy water and a microfibre cloth. No disinfectant spray required.

Nobody dead here yet.
