Toast toppers and those baked chicken and chips snacks! Sure many of you can add or fondly reminisce about treats or certain foodstuffs from the dark and distant past.

whee2y · 15/05/2020 20:27

Yeah was going to say Lovely chocolate desert :) Tasted amazing half frozen and lasted longer.
Coconut Boosts

SpudsGuns · 15/05/2020 20:47

A chocolate bar in which each piece was filled with a delicious gooey caramel.
I think it was called Golden Cup.
Mint cracknell, I think Terrys made that.
Burton's potato puff's.
Hungry now ☹️

SpudsGuns · 15/05/2020 20:48

Oh and Sarah Lee chocolate gateaux 😋
Drooling like a starving dog eyeing a steak now ☹️

chocolatemademefat · 15/05/2020 23:28

Mint cracknel and spangles.

Willowmartha1 · 16/05/2020 00:19

Does anyone remember the name of the ice lollies that were pure fruit ? My favourite was pineapple but they did orange ones too.

IsabelleSE19 · 16/05/2020 00:48

Made the mistake of sharing this thread with DH and now he won't stop talking about peanut Boosts. Also is Hmmthat 'people' me don't realise that the coconut Boost is the original one.

SciFiWoman · 16/05/2020 01:45

Wasn’t there a bacon flavoured Wotsit for a while? The bag was a purple colour.
Burtons used to do small savoury biscuits called Snax... mid to late 70s - we always had a pack after going swimming. There were 2 flavours, one a very strong bacon , but I can’t remember the other, salt and vinegar maybe?
All sorts of long forgotten ‘nice bits’ turn up in B&M, the £ shops, Home Bargains or bizarrely, garages!! They were selling divine Fry’s Chocolate Orange bars when no one else was!
Also, corner shops often throw up surprise finds.
Love these threads... but they make me hungry😄

SciFiWoman · 16/05/2020 01:47
  • Should have said... for ‘garages’ I meant petrol station shops!🙄 sorry x
Starbucksbasic123 · 16/05/2020 01:56

Fuse bars!!!! I tried to make one in home economics 😂

AlCalavicci · 16/05/2020 02:44

Sandwich spread is still available I got some in home bargins only a few weeks ago .

Sorry cant remember who asked but Herrons is a freezer shop a bit like icelands but cheaper , tho they are few and far between nowadays .

For everyone missing old sweets try here , www.aquarterof.co.uk/
I have bought sweets from there in the past inc proper refreshers ( mentioned up thread ) I have always found the service great .

ChessieFL · 16/05/2020 08:09

Problem is that even when things are available they’re not the same as they used to be. For example foam shrimps and bananas - you can still get them but they’re not the same, they used to be bigger and dusted with icing sugar. I miss those.

BeetheQueenBee · 16/05/2020 11:29

I got some from Morrison’s recently, large shrimps and bananas, the bananas were what I used to get from pick n mix years ago for about 40p

MakingMemoriesVeryBlessed · 16/05/2020 13:49

Toffypops! I think they're still about but less often.
Ice lollies which were from cartoon Strips - like harder versions of the inside of a twister.
Skye/Sky bars which were a hard core of (bubbly?) chocolate white ice cream and covered in chocolate. Ultra luxury but that was the days of cheapo choc ices rather than magnums. Think of the calorie difference though. No wonder we are fatter as a nation. Things are much bigger and richer these days.
I also loved the frozen chocolate mousses with the white flower.
Drifters and spiras.

MiddleClassProblem · 16/05/2020 14:13

@AlCalavicci I’m afraid they are not refreshers like we know and love. You can but those refreshers anywhere but they have changed the recipe, I think around 2009. They are no longer a gentle mellow flavour 😕

willowmelangell · 16/05/2020 14:23

I would love a bag of cheese Nik Naks. All knobbly and crunchy. I used to eat them in 1980 for sure. Orange bag I think.

Haenow · 19/05/2020 08:10

@willowmelangell have you ever had crunchy cheetos? They’re similar. :)

sueelleker · 19/05/2020 08:43

I found Fry's raspberry cream bars in Poundland too; they're very sickly though.

kerrymucklowe2020 · 19/05/2020 09:00

Texan bars

kerrymucklowe2020 · 19/05/2020 09:09

And the penny tray - chocolate logs and bazooka ( no, not the verucca gel!), These were pink squares of bubblegumAnd if you licked the inside wrapper and stuck it in your arm you got s tattoo!

TylluanBach · 19/05/2020 11:05

Mojos, used to be half a penny each. Also cider lollies/funny feet used to love those from the ice cream van.

PunishmentSnart · 19/05/2020 13:09

@SciFiWoman yes I remember - were they a Halloween addition. I’m sure I had them recently!

PunishmentSnart · 19/05/2020 13:10

Here they are

Favourite snacks and where did they go?
pussycatinboots · 19/05/2020 14:22

I don't know what these were called, but I remember them from about 7 or 8, so v late 70s/early 80s.
They were cartwheel shaped with spokes and a hole in the middle - I think potato, but may have been corn based, about an inch and a half across. Pretty sure there were ready salted and salt and vinegar flavours. Oh, and in a big "family/sharing" bag (Red or Blue depending on flavour) not an individual sized packet.

Anyone else remember them??

kerrymucklowe2020 · 19/05/2020 15:28

Pussycat - were they called WEELZ? Think they came in nice n spicy and salt and vinegar
