Medical abortion after having children

Ok. New here so I'm feel a little worried about what comments I may receive.
I have had a medical termination from home today after missing my period 10 days ago.
The bleeding has got fairly heavy and I'm passing some fairly big clots. Is this normal?
I have had 3 children youngest is 4 and this was a choice my husband and I found hard to choose but the pregnancy was unplanned.
I'm in no pain but the bleeding is pretty bad and I've just passed a clot about the size of my hand....
I don't know what to expect so please any comments are very useful

Ring 999 now

ImNewHere1105 · 12/05/2020 00:05

Why?

OP posts:
Abbazed · 12/05/2020 00:05

You urgently need medical attention xx

Abbazed · 12/05/2020 00:06

It shouldn't hurt that much nor big clots. Did they give you a leaflet?

ImNewHere1105 · 12/05/2020 00:06

Why? I'm not unwell and from my leaflets large clots are normal x

ImNewHere1105 · 12/05/2020 00:07

I said there is no pain

Have you soaked through more than 2 sanitary towels within an hour?

ImNewHere1105 · 12/05/2020 00:07

Not soaked through no, but I keep changing them so I feel fresh

OP posts:
LaraLoui · 12/05/2020 00:08

Big clots are normal, but not the size of your hand.

Abbazed · 12/05/2020 00:09

How often have you changed the pad?

Abbazed · 12/05/2020 00:10

Have you passed large clots for more than 2 hrs?

Babyiwantabump · 12/05/2020 00:10

From the info BPAS give clots the size of lemons are normal .
Have you rang their aftercare line?
Also maybe get this moved to pregnancy choices .

ImNewHere1105 · 12/05/2020 00:10

Probs once an hour but not soaked through. The last one wasn't bad but the clot was on top

Adoptthisdogornot · 12/05/2020 00:10

Abbazed she said she's in no pain? OP if you feel ok I'd just wait until morning and then phone someone (gp maybe?) for reassurance chances are the bleeding will start to ease off a bit by then, and be more like a normal period.

LaraLoui · 12/05/2020 00:11

Doesn't sound too bad then, just keep and eye on the bleeding. Some pain and large clots are to be expected. But if the bleeding is so heavy that you're soaking 2 pads in an hour, you'll need medical attention.

ImNewHere1105 · 12/05/2020 00:12

I'm honestly feeling ok, I promise. Hubby is here and like I said no pain.
I'm more asking what to expect x

Thank you for comments and concerns x

Hmm no experience of abortion but I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks. I pashed a blood clot the size of a small grapefruit during 3 hours of heavy bleeding. I have 4 kids. There was no pain and that was the largest thing to come out in those heaviest three hours. I just pottered around at home.

Maybe that was the hight of it for you? I would worry if it carrys on.

ImNewHere1105 · 12/05/2020 00:16

@Legoandloldolls sounds very similar to me

OP it sounds fairly normal from my experience of one, but if you’re worried tonight I’d probably call 111 rather than asking on here. I spent the whole day in the hospital waiting for something to happen with mine then it all happened in a rush while I was working a night shift later on. Mine was due to a MMC at about 8 weeks so I don’t know if that makes a difference. I don’t remember how long it lasted, just that the clots seemed huge

june2007 · 12/05/2020 00:20

Might be worth ring 111, make sure it is ok.

ImNewHere1105 · 12/05/2020 00:22

Hey.
Not overly worried, more just asking for other people's experience x

IME of both ending a pregnancy and having medical management of a missing miscarriage, clots and heavy bleeding are relatively normal then once the pregnancy itself has passed (trying to think how to phrase sensitively) it starts to ease off to a level that's more like day two of a period.

If you're soaking through more than two pads in an hour, have any sudden flooding, develop pain or a temperature or shivering, or feel unwell then you need urgent care.

Hope you manage to get some rest and that things are better in the morning.

Juanmorebeer · 12/05/2020 00:30

Hi. I hope you are doing OK in the circumstances. I had a miscarriage at around 8 weeks and it was pretty bad blood loss and pain wise. I definitely experienced the same as you describe, but then I do suffer with horrific periods all the time. Don't know if this affects it.

I found heat helped. So hot water bottle or wheat bag etc.

Take care

Legoandloldolls · 12/05/2020 00:32

I think from my limited experience if you sit down your more likely to pass big blood clots as things pool up inside.

I know from my birth board at the time, another lady having a MC was bleeding heavy for hours on end, passed out and hit her head on the sink then came too some time later.

My midwife said if you fill a heavy duty pad in a hour more than once to go in. So, with that in mind just be mindful that it should be trailing off, if you feel sick or faint also call.

I know it's not nice but I had the clot then some tissue came out then it eased off. Dont panic though as nothing that looked like a pregnancy product. But it was tissue. Maybe that's what your body is doing now? The worse bit.
