Sausages past their best before date?

BFD is 2 May - yay or nay?

If you've eaten them already, didn't they taste bad? Are you sure it's not 12 may but the 1 has rubbed off.

I'm laxer than just about everyone, but even I'd not go past a couple of days for something like sausages.

beautifulxdisasters · 11/05/2020 19:27

I'd go a couple of days over for most fresh meat inc sausages but not this far sorry OP!

Sewingbea · 11/05/2020 19:27

Noooo!

Wishforsnow · 11/05/2020 19:28

I had 6 days over use by yesterday, still OK!

EatDessertFirst · 11/05/2020 19:32

God no! So many risk factors. The fact its pork which can be as 'dodgy' as chicken and its a heavily processed product AND nine days out of date? Yuck!

For the record, the smell test is pointless. Not all bacteria/spores release a smell.

c75kp0r · 11/05/2020 19:34

no not sausages

Likethebattle · 11/05/2020 20:26

Bad sausages can make your really unwell. No from me.

msmith501 · 11/05/2020 20:27

You didn't say if they were in the fridge - it's a no from me simon - or in the freezer... in which case I would.

cathcath2 · 11/05/2020 21:06

Noooooo!

Ikeasucks · 13/05/2020 01:02

Ok - so threw them in the bin, appreciate the input. Now I’ve got turkey strips dated 10th and haggis dated 8th - so what’s on the menu for tomorrow!

OP posts:
KittenVsBox · 13/05/2020 08:35

I'd eat either of those, well cooked, today after a thorough cooking.

KittenVsBox · 13/05/2020 08:36

Oops, hit send too soon.

I'd eat either of those, well cooked, today after a thorough cooking, and a normal sniff test.

Ikeasucks · 13/05/2020 08:44

I need an extra fridge freezer in the garage

OP posts:
Whatisthisfuckery · 13/05/2020 08:49

No, not that far out of date. Pork is funny at the best of times but these are 11 days over.

Whatisthisfuckery · 13/05/2020 08:51

The other two things yeah, just cook them well.

JessicaDay · 13/05/2020 08:53

No to sausages, haggis and turkey.

opticaldelusion · 13/05/2020 08:57

I still don't understand what the date was? Fresh meat shouldn't have a BBD. It should be a use by date.

QuestionableMouse · 13/05/2020 08:58

@TerrorWig

Don't rely on the food smelling bad. It can be off and not have a smell. Just because it smells okay doesn't mean it's safe to eat.

@Ikeasucks I personally wouldn't be eating anything past its use by date. Not worth the risk in this current situation.

Chillipeanuts · 13/05/2020 08:59

Sausages would be “use by” not “best before”?

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 13/05/2020 09:04

They’d probably be OK but I wouldn’t eat them. We have Red Kites where we are , that’s the sort of thing I’d leave out for them , after I’d cooked them, obviously.

userabcname · 13/05/2020 09:32

My friend accidentally cooked and served 3 week old sausages to her family. They all ate them and all were fine! I don't know how they got away with that but they did.

Exactly!

Likefootball · 13/05/2020 10:34

I wouldn't risk it.

Justgorgeous · 13/05/2020 10:35

I would not mess with pork.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 13/05/2020 10:35

I strongly suspected since the beginning that OP is talking about frozen goods and if yes, then throwing them is a waste and fgs Britain, learn about difference in dates
