Is anyone else getting all these conspiracy type things popping up on their newsfeeds. Also messages from friends with “Read this before it’s taken down”. A lot of them are doctors saying they’re paid to call deaths as covid-19, or that the virus isn’t real, don’t have the vaccine, Bill Gates is in on it so we can be chipped to control us, the virus really came from an American lab, New World Order etc etc. Sometimes I start half believing them. What does everyone think?

OP posts:
JudyGemstone · 12/05/2020 14:39

Samphire the name calling comment wasn't directed at you or anyone specifically but,

Nutjob
Batshit
Nutter
Fruitloop
Should be shot

Is this not name calling?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/05/2020 14:44

Where those comments aimed at an individual or just conspiracy theorists in general. I can't see older posts....

Terralee · 12/05/2020 14:46

I don't get any conspiracies popping up on my Facebook feed luckily.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/05/2020 14:49

Ah, @Judy. All general comments about conspiracy theories. No name calling at all.

Not one poster was directly maligned, though some were questioned...

Theeighthelephant · 12/05/2020 15:41

I think it's more dangerous to believe everything you are told tbh.
Plus, you can only conspire against something which is true.
So the fact you think these are conspiracy theories means you believe what you are told is the truth.
Because you don't know what is actually true and what isn't.

But I'm told, by conspiracy theoriests, that coronavirus has been made by a cabal of Jewish illuminati businessmen fudned by Bill Gates to control the population and decieve us into thinking the Earth is round or something, and I don't believe that.

SidSparrow · 12/05/2020 16:13

My favourite one is that the queen is a shape shifting lizard.

I'd love that to be true!! Her eyes are a bit shifty to be fair.

Ocarinan · 12/05/2020 18:05

According to David icke, who according to some is totally not an anti-semite.

Devlesko · 12/05/2020 18:10

Theeighthelephant

I'm very glad to hear that. Grin
Not believing everything you are told is the best way to be, imo Thanks
Either what some call conspiracies or some call truth.

A friend's ex partner is a constant source of entertainment for us. He's hilarious, always sharing these things. Posted something along the lines of "interesting that no one actually knows anyone who has covid, let alone has died from it Hmm" almost all of the replies were, of course, people who know others who've had it or have died, or have/had it themselves. Then he replied "okay anyone from [our town] though?" majority said yes. Of course he wouldn't have it... He's of the "it's caused by 5g" group.
A while back he posted a 'conspiracy' about the field I am doing my degree in and have worked in at a lower level for years. Factually, the whole thing was incorrect, before you even got to the conspiracy part... None of these people are credible. They're so narcissistic they think the government wants to listen into their boring diatribe, they're the least interesting people on the planet. Lives so dull they have to believe somethings out to get them or they'd keel over from boredom...

Even if you show them countless peer reviewed scientific studies and articles that affirm a point, they tell you do research, usually followed by a link to a sketchy blog or YouTube video, because they don't understand what credible evidence is.

Clearly I'm not a fan of these people

Lemonsherbets78 · 12/05/2020 18:41

@Theeighthelephant on todays episode of "what can we blame on Jewish people now?" Angry my neighbour is convinced that the Rothschilds have something to do with the pandemic and lockdown, any excuse to use an antisemitic canard... Sick to the hind teeth of it. I know it'd be easier to ignore it, but once you've read it, it's hard to not get angry

GnusSitOnCanoes · 12/05/2020 21:31

@FlameIngSofa can you share links re: Gates’ multimillion donations to the BBC and ITV please?

GnusSitOnCanoes · 12/05/2020 21:34

@Lemonsherbets78 someone cited David Icke to me today as a credible source mentioned in Plandemic. (A man who thinks the world is ruled by alien shapeshifting lizards - the Rothschilds among them.) It’s difficult to argue with that level of crazy.

www.wired.co.uk/article/5g-coronavirus-conspiracy-theory-attacks

Since March 30, there have been 77 arson attacks on mobile phone masts across the UK, with staff working on mobile infrastructure also reporting 180 incidents of abuse. There have been 13 additional incidents of sabotage reported, ranging from failed arson attacks to attempts to damage mobile network infrastructure in other ways. From April 20 through May 5, more than a week after the supposed peak of attacks in early April, there were 16 arson or sabotage attacks on mobile phone masts. When failed or attempted attacks are added to the tally, that number increases to 74.

While angry shouting and threats typify many of these incidents, some have resulted in physical acts of violence. Michael, an apprentice network engineer working for Openreach in London, was spat at in the face by an angry member of the public. Michael has since had to self-isolate after becoming ill with suspected coronavirus. He was too unwell to be interviewed for this story. Another Openreach engineer has been stabbed and put in hospital.

Fuck conspiracy theorists.

dayslikethese1 · 13/05/2020 00:16

The 5G theories seem v popular; they were popular before and now they've incorporated covid into the theories.

Mimishimi · 13/05/2020 01:50

my neighbour is convinced that the Rothschilds have something to do with the pandemic and lockdown, any excuse to use an antisemitic canard.

Hmmm. If anything, it's more like to be a Nazi fascist tactic.

DarrellMakepeace · 13/05/2020 03:18

It's sheeple , not sheepie.

As you were.

OgoPogo8 · 13/05/2020 03:23

@GnusSitOnCanoes

I presume s/he means is referring to this.

The monster

aurynne · 13/05/2020 03:42

Scientists and doctors can never offer certainty. They offer probability. The virus MAY have come from a lab, but after analysing its genetic sequence it is much more LIKELY that it comes from a bat.

However, conspiracy theorists offer you certainty: The virus ABSOLUTELY is man made and comed from Chinese lab. The virus IS a hoax. The virus IS 100% transmitted by 5G. The lines in the sky after planes ARE chemtrails spread to control us all.

People are not reassured by statistics, they want certainty.

On top of that, there is huge comfort for people who feel they are completely irrelevant and helpless in this complex World in believing only they have access to very important information other supposedly smart people don't know about.

This guy explains it much better than me:

Crikey, all I get on FB is banana bread.

PurpleTrilby · 13/05/2020 03:49

Boot anyone who thinks like that, they are delusional nutters. Fuck them and the boat they came in on. Seriously.

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 13/05/2020 03:55

5G is my favourite.

PositiveVibez · 13/05/2020 07:16

Phone masts, 5G, Bill Gates, Deep State, Pizzagate, the Rothschilds, illuminati, etc, etc. It’s all total QAnonsense

🎵🎵We didn't start the virus, it was always burnin since the world was turnin.

We didn't start the virus, no we didn't light it, but we're tryna fight it🎵🎵

TheClaws · 13/05/2020 07:48

The one positive from this situation is that it has exposed the silly, non-social media—literate people to the world. Those that cannot discern bias and simply parrot talking points without filter or further research of their own. My social media use has dipped considerably as I find the amount of people that do this - from all shades of the political spectrum - saddening. Conspiracy-sharing is when they are are most vehement, but also most lacking.

Theeighthelephant · 13/05/2020 12:27

I really hope those attacking engineers are jailed.

umersoloweig · 25/05/2020 19:08
