To really not understand why people are OK with cats

Full disclosure, I'm allergic to cats and also very much a dog person but I really don't understand how it's acceptable for cats to go round decimating local wildlife and crapping in gardens.

I've lost count of how many times I've had to pick cat poo off the lawn and my daughter came in yesterday with cat sick all over her feet as a local moggie had vommed on our patio. I'm sick of it. It's a health hazard and you shouldn't have to wear a hazmat suit to go in your own garden.

We have tadpoles outside which are about to froglet and I've just seen a fat cat with its head in the water. I'm fuming, a few of the tadpoles are injured and this is the same cat I had to get off a terrified bird last week.

I'm not remotely sentimental about nature, if a hungry creature kills another then that's how life works. However I cannot understand how people can let these cats out knowing that they're injuring animals for no reason and causing health hazards to other people in their own home.

I couldn't take my dog for a shit in your garden so why can your cat do that in mine? They're not even natural predators as they just trot home to get their whiskers.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND!

Cats are beautiful. I like dogs too (I actually like all animals) but only as an abstract concept, probably wouldn’t want to live with a dog. Even the craziest of dog people can surely see that dogs are more of a nuisance than cats? They bark, they shit on the pavement and some owners definitely don’t clear it up! And some people are genuinely terrified of them. Cats are on the whole, quiet, mostly bury their waste and I don’t really know many people who are scared of them.

It's a mumsnet thing.

The mantra is:
Cats are wild animals and, although they are beloved pets bred and bought by humans, and not part of our local ecosystems, they are simply wild and are allowed to shit on everyone's lawns. They need to do what is natural to them and roam for exercise.

Also. Dogs must be on a lead at all times, and must never be permitted to run in open spaces.

OP, I also HATE to pick up the shit of other people's pets (and it is 100% cat poo on the lawn, and not foxes or badgers. 1. I SEE them doing it and 2. My neighbours don't all have pet foxes and badgers.

This argument will never be won as neither side will ever agree.
Either be vigilant with a water pistol or get a dog. There is literally nothing anyone can do to solve this issue.

The cycle path near me has new signs saying it’s the dog owners job to pick up the poo...right next to one of them was a dog turd in a little poop bag. Missing the point a bit. I’ve nothing against dogs at all but some dog owners are complete twits. They don’t pick up the dog poo, they let them run round out of control with no regard for others, don’t bat an eyelid while their precious pooch is scratching my legs to shreds jumping up at me....

Every house with a dog STINKS. If you don't think yours does you've just got used to it

This may surprise you but we don't actually 'know' what our cats do when they go roaming. I don't put a tracking device on her, she doesnt send a postcard and I certainly can't quiz her about her actions when she gets home!

How can you not love this cuteness? I prefer cats to people.

Domestic cats and domestic dogs are just the same. The are all artificial creatures bred by humans for their own satisfaction.
None of them should be encouraged when natural species are being wiped out by human greed.

My cat (coincidentally called Froglet) is very polite, lives indoors, comes out on a lead, but makes a huge fuss about being taken home immediately to use her tray if she needs to go to the loo.
She's also gives amazing cuddles, rubs against my legs when I get in she wants food. and lets me tickle her tummy as a pretext to scratching my hand.

So we have a lovely new lawn we have saved for and laid from the load of concrete that was there before. This one cat is such a shit. He’s dug a
Hole in the new turf and pooped on the lawn more than once. My dd runs around on the grass patch because the back needs sorting out still.
This really annoys me, someone else’s pet crapping on my garden. If my dogs (growing up) did this they would of been persecuted. Now I
actually have a cat, I love him so much but he doesn’t go out crapping in peoples gardens and
He doesn’t decimate wildlife. He’s a house cat, loved and protected from being hurt, poisoned, run over and diseases etc. If I can stop my pet from doing these things why can’t other people?

I don’t like dogs because they shit all over the pavements and their selfish owners don’t pick it up. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve stepped in dog shit or wheeled my pram through dog shit.

Someone in my area was letting their dog do ginormous human sized logs directly outside of people’s gates at one point so I had to pick it up, why did I have to pick some other fuckers dog shit up?! I poured pepper all over anyway and the dog never went there again.

I’ve never stepped in cat shit, they cover it up so it doesn’t affect my life.

I am so sorry but you are a weirdo (in the nicest possible way). This is my new rescue "assisting" in the kitchen. I rescued him just before lockdown. I am trying to train him to be outside. My neighbours (lovely people, known them over 20 years) KEEP asking me if cats carry corona virus. NO they don't! They didnt seem to mind my previous Siamese rescue who "owned" their garage roof.

Now if we can move on to dogs. New neighbours who let their dogs run wild over the estate - pissing and pooing over my front garden.

Cats vs. Dogs - one legally you have to control and the other you dont.

YANBU - my neighbour's two cats have adopted my garden to hang around in ever since she got a dog, and they are a bloody pest . Yesterday, I spent a couple of hours gardening- planting lots of seeds, moving some seedlings into bigger pots etc. Got up this morning to find one of my neighbours cats crouched in one of my large pots, the dirty twat had peed and done a huge poo on top of my freshly planted seeds. Last week I had to throw out my indoor doormat after I accidentally trod in cat shit on the front lawn and walked it into my house. Am so fed up with them shitting everywhere. I've also witnessed them using my wooden patio furniture as a scratching post, and we have also had them pee on our sun lounger cushions last summer when the lounger was left unattended for 10 mins or so. I don't see why we should have to pack it away in the shed just to pop into the house to make some lunch. If you leave a door open (just to nip to the outdoor bin, or to the shed) they will sneak into the house. No amount of chasing them off seems to deter them, they're like a pair of furry gangsters hell bent on destruction. Horrible disgusting things.

Cats bury their poo. It's probably fox poo you're picking up.

Alternatively I don't get the entitlement of dog owners who force their dogs on people and can't accept that others might not want their dog "being friendly" aka "being a fucking nuisance to strangers"

The amount of dog owners who are insufferable and intrusive about their dog is a SIGNIFICANT percentage.

Cat owners are not in the same league

I love animals and can’t understand how people can love cats but hate dogs and vice versa. We live rurally and have hens so we rely on our cats to keep the rat population down else they cost us a fortune in corn. I also love rats (I have pet rats) but their population needs to be controlled sometimes.
