To really not understand why people are OK with cats

Full disclosure, I'm allergic to cats and also very much a dog person but I really don't understand how it's acceptable for cats to go round decimating local wildlife and crapping in gardens.

I've lost count of how many times I've had to pick cat poo off the lawn and my daughter came in yesterday with cat sick all over her feet as a local moggie had vommed on our patio. I'm sick of it. It's a health hazard and you shouldn't have to wear a hazmat suit to go in your own garden.

We have tadpoles outside which are about to froglet and I've just seen a fat cat with its head in the water. I'm fuming, a few of the tadpoles are injured and this is the same cat I had to get off a terrified bird last week.

I'm not remotely sentimental about nature, if a hungry creature kills another then that's how life works. However I cannot understand how people can let these cats out knowing that they're injuring animals for no reason and causing health hazards to other people in their own home.

I couldn't take my dog for a shit in your garden so why can your cat do that in mine? They're not even natural predators as they just trot home to get their whiskers.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND!

My cat is an indoor cat. She is very spoiled, with 2 cat trees and lots of toys. We play with her every day and anything cat friendly like boxes or bags is presented to her for her enjoyment.

I think most people who dont like cats either expect them to act like dogs and then get weirdly offended when they dont, or they just dont like outdoor cats.

I don't like that people who dont like cats can be weirdly aggressive about it. Like "I hate cats! CATS ARE EVIL". Calm down, people. It's weird.

Attaching a picture of my babygirl, not because I think it will change any minds, just because she's pretty.

I am not sure the best way to champion cats is just to slag off dogs (or the other way around for that matter)...

Badhairday101 · 12/05/2020 19:48

I love cats, I don’t know why because mine isn’t even nice to me but I think he’s just gorgeous along with all the other felines.
I’d also be upset about the tadpoles though. My cat hasn’t caught any small animal's for years but it used to really upset me when he did. Even though I know it’s just what they do.

Tubs11 · 12/05/2020 19:55

Can't stand cats, vicious little backyards and give you zero love

Kate0902900908 · 12/05/2020 19:57

Erm.... Ok well unlike dogs cats are independent, self-pleasing and roaming natured. They can't be kept in, unless being miss treated or are a complete house cat. Injured tabpoles? Really? I think you maybe suffering from ’nothing else to worry/moan about syndrome’ it's spreading during lockdown haha 😂
Place a few empty 2lt bottles of water in the garden it spooks them and should stop them coming in! X

Kate0902900908 · 12/05/2020 19:58

This is pumpkin the house cat! X

@Tubs11 they're quite choosy.

LostDesire · 12/05/2020 20:06

I've not got double standards when it comes to pets.

Cats kill birds and shit where they want.
If a cat comes on my garden, I let the dog out. The cats gets away or the dog kills it.

I never trained my dog to kill cats. Just like cat owners never trained cats to kill birds.

Thing is cat owners happily let their cats out knowing they kill other animals. So I happily let my dog out knowing the same. However the difference is my dog does it on his own garden, where cats go out hunting.

I love all animals but they do eat eachother. No point in saying they don't. If you are happy to let you cat out to kill, don't moan when said cat meets its end by another animal.

Franklymydearidontgiveaham · 12/05/2020 20:07

Hmmm.....Cats are amazing intuitive little friends I could sit here all evening and wax lyrical about them but I won't. Yes cats crapping in your garden in annoying. Much the same way I used to find dog crap on my front lawn sometimes and how whilst walking around a lake the other day there were at least 5 dog craps on the path. Granted it's a big lake but come on it's a beauty spot in a nice area, no need.

Franklymydearidontgiveaham · 12/05/2020 20:08

And @LostDesire...you let your pet kill someone else's pet....wtf?

skyblu · 12/05/2020 20:08

It’s annoying yes.
It’s also annoying when a bird craps on your car after you’ve just washed it. I mean, FGS, don’t they KNOW???

Sorry, but this planet is not just here for arrogant, self important human beings.

Get over it. You are being unreasonable.
Very unreasonable.

maresydoats · 12/05/2020 20:09

Cats have maids. Dogs have masters.

Each to their own, but cats never appealed to me. They are mini tigers and will do what they want including driving neighbours mad if they are outdoors (me). Feck off.

Owners are oblivious. Just like their cats.

Davros · 12/05/2020 20:09

Cambsalways your cats are beautiful

Kravarza · 12/05/2020 20:15

OK cat v's dog - cats cannot be taken out for walkies, dogs can. Cats cannot go to the local park and play ball. Cats to my knowledge do not decimate wildlife? I have a dog and a cat, and have had one or the other for my whole 49 years. I can honestly say that I have had more problems with dogs than I have cats. I have been attacked by dogs whilst in the park, and my dogs have also been attacked by other dogs when out and about. I don't blame the dog entirely for this, I mainly blame the owner. I have also stood in ample amounts of dog poo over the years. I think the worst thing I have ever seen a cat do is have a poo in my previous garden and not bury it. In comparison to the two I would rather step in a bit of cat poo than be attacked by a dog (unprovoked) and have to take my dog to the vets because she has been injured by another dog. I don't know what the stats are, but they are both domestic animals who display unpredictable behaviour. I've seen a dog make a pretty good mess of a garden, and in fairness if we were stuck somewhere without a toilet we'd be digging a hole to! Put some citronella down, it's a pound a bottle in poundland.

sutchie11 · 12/05/2020 20:19

Probably the greatest divide in society other than Brexit!

LostDesire · 12/05/2020 20:19

@Franklymydearidontgiveaham just like all the cat owners who let their cat out to kill other animals you mean?

Just because a animal is a pet does not add more value to it's life you know. Also cats have killed pets, not just wild life. Hmm

Do you own a cat you let outside? If you do how do you know what animals it's killed? Why do you think it's ok for your cat (if you have one you let out) to kill animals but not my dog in his own garden?

cheeseismydownfall · 12/05/2020 20:25

Ffs to everyone who is defending cats because they have had a dog crap in their front garden?!!

Other people's dogs crapping in your garden is disgusting. Other people's cats crapping in your garden is equally as fucking disgusting!!! The OP wasn't saying that dogs are better than cats, they were just pointing out that letting your dog crap in someone's garden is unacceptable (I assume no one is going to argue with this?) and that letting your cat roam freely so that it craps in someone else's garden should be equally unacceptable.

Kravarza · 12/05/2020 20:25

@Tubs11 my cats have always been loving creatures and never vicious. I've been bitten 4 times by dogs and never even scratched by a cat. Cats are independent and intuitive animals, unlike dogs who can be needy and dependant. I love cats and dogs, and the two that I have give me equal measures of love. If you bring an animal up well it will treat you well, just like humans.

cheeseismydownfall · 12/05/2020 20:29

And the fox argument is irrelevant. Yes, foxes crapping on lawns is equally unpleasant, but the key difference is that fox crap is not a direct result of someone deciding that their right to own a free-roaming pet trumps my right to not have my garden full of its shit.

JoeExoticsTiger · 12/05/2020 20:30

@LostDesire what a horrid post. Shame on you - you’re talking about someone’s much loved pet.

LostDesire · 12/05/2020 20:38

@JoeExoticsTiger oh and that pet pigeon killed by a cat was worthless was it?

Oh that's right, double standards are crazy high on here.

How about cat owners stop their cat coming on my garden then? Your being ridiculous to say shame on me when it's not my problem. Animals kill other animals. most people also eat animals. Cats and dogs too in parts of the world.

LostDesire · 12/05/2020 20:40

You're**

HereBeFuckery · 12/05/2020 20:46

I really don't understand how it's acceptable for dogs to go round terrifying and even killing local wildlife and crapping anywhere they fancy, including pavements, driveways, parks, verges and anywhere else flat.

I've lost count of how many times I've had to pick dog poo off the pavement (despite not having a dog), out of the treads is my shoes and the wheels of the buggy, or move dog poo bags into a bin from where they have been left on a branch or next to our front wall and my daughter came in a few weeks ago with dog shit all over her feet as a local mongrel had shat on our front drive. I'm sick of it. It's a health hazard and you shouldn't have to wear a hazmat suit to go out your own front door.

We have squirrels in our park which are fun to watch and I've just seen a fat dog trying to catch one. I'm fuming, a few of the squirrels are scared and my daughter is upset as the dog scared her and the squirrel she was watching.

I'm not remotely sentimental about nature, if a hungry creature kills another then that's how life works. However I cannot understand how people can let these dogs out knowing that they're injuring animals for no reason and causing health hazards to other people in their own home.

There you go, fixed it for you.
